This!! This is what us late 80s early 90s kids needed. We are in our 40s now and missing the days of getting lost in passion and warfare and flying in a blue dream blasting in our headphones. Thank you.
Yup 48 here, I remember the first time hearing Joe and Steve, this is awesome ha
Amen brother. Born in 1985 and I listen to this like it's medicine!
Back around '86-87 a friend said, "If you think Van Halen is awesome, check these guys out!" This was when I was introduced to Vai and Satriani's artistry.
A combo of Spinal Tap and Foo Fighters video to go with all that emotive / musicality and Talent, made my Friday night thanks guys, whee!
Who came her after the Rick Beato interview....cannot wait for Pt. 3 and listen to that clip of them jamming when they were kids. ☝
A conversation between the two was once published in Japan's Young Guitar Magazine. I think it was in the 90's.
During that conversation, Steve said, ``I'd like to co-produce an album together someday. I'd like the title to be ``Sea of Emotion.'' They said that in their hometown where they spent their childhood, there was a vacant lot called Sea of Emotion.
Two of my favorite guitarists might be the coolest song out there right now rock on!
@@foolonthrn
Yeah i Love Passion and Warfare and Fire Garden and Alie Love Secrets and also
Joe s Crystal Planet and Strange Beautiful Music.
There are so many guitarists in the world with amazing technical ability as evidenced by CZcams, but how many of them can write original compositions that move people and stand the test of time? This is what separates guys like Vai and Satriani from everyone else.
It's also what puts Eddie Van Halen at the very top of the mountain.
I don't think so. Steve's 1990 album is truly the pinnacle of imagination and technique.@@davekennedy4498
For a solo artist and instrumental satriani is my favorite. Some memorable tunes. Even my ex girlfriend liked his tunes and she doesn't like guitar based music.
I'm speechless. I've craved this collaboration for decades and it does not disappoint. It's songwriting rather than shredding.
Yeah. Given they have been friends for so long, it's amazing its taken this long. Brilliant players each. Love it!
@@sutoneru-sama9836same. perhaps they'll do a more shreddy one next, although Joe is more medium paced these days!
I just realized how they reference each other in their solo sections: Vai plays some Satrianisms and Satch plays some Vaisms
And yet the solos are so obviously Vai and Satch. It's great how they acknowledge both their own identity and that of their partner. Marriages could learn from this.
That's not what's happening, both players are miming throughout and in places mime each others parts is what's happening.
@@kirkhunter146 Part 1 of the solo section is played by Vai, Part 2 is played by Satriani. This is what is happening objectively. That they have added licks or effects in the style of the other might be a subjective interpretation. Have a nice day.
Two of the world's best guitarists in one video. AMAZiNG!!
@@curiousmusic101A lot of players now blow Hendrix away. Not criticism of the man at all, he brought the guitar to the front and changed rock forever.
Best Teacher and Student of all time
The "student" definitely became the master.
Still, I'm a big fan of both
@@joshmarksberry2274 You can disagree but Beethoven had his Salieri! Look how that turned out! OK, Salieri worte 40 operas alone, but Ludwig was still the king of combining classical/romantic and a little pop in there. Steve is a better pure musician who plays the guitar over Satch.
@@Artificialintelligentle I hear you. To me it's splitting hairs. Vai and Satch have both had a huge impact on my life. And the aforementioned also for that matter. Classical/Metal/Prog... Pop any of them on and I'm a happy camper.. lol
I’ve died and gone to guitar heaven!!!! Why have we had to wait for so long for this collaboration???!!!!!
I’m a 51 year old guitarist from 5 years old and what just happened???
Thank you both for soo much
God blessed you Joe and Steve
@@michelcoluche3464 There is one true God, I hope you find him and accept him in your heart. He loves you.
@@ashcreekAER Bullshit ! if god exists he'd better have a good excuse !
These guitar gods do not need vocalists; their guitars are the vocalists themselves.
Steve's harmonic control is SICK! Joe's pinch harmonic 'whammy flights' matched!! Of course this is a total expression of joy from these masters! LOVE IT! ... and the video brings back so many personal memories as well.
AWESOME !!!!! IM 52 and with a 1992 JS 1000 Still Loving the Satch ! what a treat with Steve Vai ! Awesome Rock On Fellas
@@logo10flyer No I bought it the yr my daughter was born in 1992 ,,,,I cut my teeth on that guitar and had it restored a few yrs back new pick ups n new trem n wiring and jack I Live in Canada and would do anything to meet Joe and have him Sign my Guitar ,,,,,
This bangin' tune deserves a Grammy
I love how you could hear this on the radio for the first time and INSTANTLY clock that its a Vai/Satriani joint.
Fucking Iconic.
Two good friends having good time and giving us good time as well 😂❤
Personally I've only been waiting 36 years for this collaboration. Was 14 when I started listening to both.... fuckin old now!@
Billions of years of existence and we are on earth able to watch these two make masterpieces.
If you Guitar ..... this is GOLD !.... Rock on !
My heart is laughing!!!!! To think that we had to wait so long for a Satch Vai song... This is EPICCC
Best song from Vai and Satriani I've heard in a long time! So dope. Perfect riffs, elegant solos, different tonalities. Masters. They play so well together.
Tears in my eyes! Create more togheter, please!
Joe always plays the right notes.
Man, that’s the coolest new riff I’ve heard in years! If you’re not at the very least nodding your head along to it, are you even still alive?!
One of the parts sounds like from Strange Beautiful Music. The beginning of one of those songs.
@@scorpiusbalthazar4327 i knew it, i feel the same way but i don't remember what song is it, i need to hear strange beautiful music again
They said in an interview back in the 90’s that one day they’d do an album together. Tell me this isn’t just a one off song? Been looking forward to this for decades. Didn’t disappoint.
This is legit. A friend of mine told me just a couple of days ago that Steve Vai and satriani are doing a concert here in my hometown. I assumed that each do a separate show lasting about half the time each. But this makes me kind of excited to think that they might actually playing on the same stage at the same time.
Just saw the concert a few days ago. Both play full sets then come out and play together for the entire. Amazing experience.
Joe announced during the live debut of sea of emotion that they're doing a whole album together about their childhood and growing up and early years!
I love how they keep the song so groovy and not at all overly complicated to enjoy. Masterful musical sense
At last!!! Two legendary idols making music together.... LOVED IT!! Please moreeeeee
For those of you keeping score at home, the Sea of Emotion was an empty lot in Carle Place, Long Island, that Steve and Joe used to hang out in as kids. It's referenced in their 1990 Guitar World interview together. Does anyone from Long Island know what's there now?
Its a building, last I saw it was an insurance place. That was in 2003 before I left NY
@@JasonCGuitarOfficialwhere about? I need to go make a visit. There’s some mojo in that lot. Haha.
Joe and Steve are Long Island's finest! I'm from Michigan, but I've lived a few towns over from Carle Place for a couple decades now. One of my finest concert memories was seeing Steve play a concert in his home town for the Passion and Warfare 25th anniversary tour!
This is what makes Stach and Vai a level above many shredders; the melody is in the first place...
@@andyharman3022 Exactly ! People who dismiss Satriani or Vai as "just" shred either have poor hearing or lack imagination. Satch and Vai are absolute masters.
Just saw these two together in concert. For me, that was a trip back to the 80's and 90's.
These guys in one screen playing on one track is just pure unadulterated skills, music and magic., ❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Joe Satriani has got to be the best guitar teacher of all time. He taught Steve Vai of course Steve has a tremendous amount of natural talent but he still deserves credit. Cool song! I love listening to these guys play especially with each other. I was born in 73 and I’ll never forget hearing these guys and EVH for the first time. These guys are the reason I started playing guitar and I’m still playing. Thanks guys for inspiring my whole life.
@@danifelicesquest yeah I forgot about that, Metallica has some of my favorite metal songs. I wonder who else he’s taught.
Alex Skolnick - Testament
Rick Hunolt - Exodus
David Bryson - Counting Crows
Phil Kettner - Laaz Rockit
Larry Lalonde - Primus
This is one of the best tunes both Steve and Joe have ever made. Great video too!
Just seen them live, unreal experience! Can’t express with written words. We were also part of a Q&A - will never forget! Their music saved my life!
Love how Steve gets more than one key centre to solo over, love it in general when instrumentalists get a decent bit of tasty background to make hay from.
I have waited all my life for this...
LOVE IT!!! Thanks Joe/Steve! Love it, love it, love it!!!
*The first time I didn't manage to listen to the details, I was just enjoying and watching the 2 LEGENDS. I needed to rewatch it again to notice the music.* 🎶🎸
I saw this awesome song and others played live at the concert in Red bank NJ last week. it was amazing. Thank you Joe Satriani and Steve Vai for awesome music video , music and concert! I had blast seeing you both play live with my friends.
Two geniuses at work.
Steve Satriani and Joe Vai are my favourites
I saw them live last night at Warner Theater in DC. It was spectacular!. So many emotions, watching them together for first time in my life, after almost 30 years of following them both. Thanks both for bringing joy to the world with your music!
The facts that you guys are real friends makes this even better. Definitely want more of this.
These are 2 of the most AMAZING guitarists in the world! I wish they'd do an entire album together. 🤘🎸
Video is a lot of fun. The track itself as a whole sounds like it could easily fit on a Joe album. Doesn't sound so much like a Steve tune. Though I love how there's no mistaking Steve on his solo, and Joe on his - visuals not required ! I'm really hoping there's going to be a whole album, with a mixture of Satch & Vai styles.
Finally!!!! Been waiting for a collaboration for years.. Thanks Steve and Joe
And... Its an awesome song which blends both of your styles perfectly.. Fantastic
Only gripe... We need to see Joe playing that solo instead of the 70s story clips during it, hehe
Love this !!!! Saw them in Clearwater Florida Monday night ! Vip experience and an amazing night ! Amazing show !!! Sea of Emotion ! Even better live !!!!! 🎸🎵🎶🥂🍾
Saw them in Jacksonville on Tuesday! They still bring it every show.
My wife and I were there! Coolest part was having our 16 yo daughter with us. :)
This has got to be the first time ive heard Vai solo in phrygian! Frikkin awesome !
That’s some of the best jams I’ve heard in a while. What can you expect from Joe and Steve? The best.
I love everything about this. Brilliant, everyone involved. Just brilliant.
Love this collaboration. This is how I like my "guitar" music. Excellent all around. Such a killer vibe and groove with super tasty solos.
Can't wait for the tour and I hope they'll can visit Barcelona, Spain
Oooookay...My Birthday is next week. 48 already and I can't even begin to explain how great it is that I have so much crazy new music from the folks that shaped my youth. I mean just crazy. Thanks so much for this.
The Satch is such a legend! A treasure to us 90s kids. Always been one of my top electric guitarist since i bought chords of life from a random supermarket back in the mid 90s
two of the greatest guitar players shreding up some great solo's thanks again boys

I love this, so great these guys finally did this together.
Love from Italy! Great collaboration between two amazing guitar stars, using their skills with a fantastic choice of notes and chords, more focused on taste than shredding
Been waiting for this a loooooong time. Thanks for finally getting together and bringing the magic.
This is so cool. Fun and funky! I didn’t expect this based on the song title alone. Love it!

You know the BEST part is that it says Pt.1😮❤❤😮❤😮❤😮 so please make many cause this is PURE GOLD ❤❤
I listened to this song for over an hour last night after work and now I'm on it again
that hook is so melodic and sweeeeeeeet! Some of those runs were dark and mysterious, and I loved it!
WE ARE NOT WORTHY!! 🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
People. Hit that like button. As a musician myself I can tell you it matters and especially if you want more people to find this and support them.
I could use a whole album with these vibes. The 70’s were truly the best years of music for rock
The only 70's vibe is the video, Rock music did not sound like this in the 70's. It started sounding like this when Vai & Satriani started putting albums out in the late 80's.
@@kirkhunter146 Just the vibes man, there's 70's all in this musically, I'm hearing hints of hendrix, edgar winter group, sabbath, then Joe and Steve's own mastery on top of it
Best music video I've seen in years!
Thank you Zappa for finding Vai and thank you Satch for teaching him. This is fantastic!
The gods of guitar in a sea of emotion.

This is brilliant !!!! Love the whole thing - hair ! Ripping leather Jacket - this is flipping hysterical- hope you guys had as much fun as it looks !!! The mixer !!!! Sailing the sea of emotion ‘past the point of caring ‘
Love the sound of this. Great mix, great song, and even better guitarists!! ❤. Been following ya’ll for decades. Nice seeing you two collaborate together. Would love to hear a record of you two someday. Thank you for sharing with the world. 😊
Joe Satriani changed the world back in '70s by his unique taste of music and creation of unbeatable melodies. God bless him. I am glad that Joe Satriani and his former top student Steve Vai are still together and best friends for 5 decades and still better than everyone else. ❤
Also he's the teacher of them all. literally he was also the guitar teacher of Vai too.
@@soheilnoorani2024 Changed the world in the 70s you said. Nope. Early 80s should be late 80s.
Just keeps getting better with each listen. Brilliant.
On Friday, March 29, I saw Satriani and vai live in North Charleston South Carolina incredible show and it was highlighted mostly by them playing together at the end they introduced this new song and of course you really got me and Enter Sandman incredible together and then I saw this video the next morning she blew me away they have to do an album together they are to the guitar as Lin and McCartney were to a Pop song. I have always been with you both for 35 years and I hope for many more years with you, God willing. Don't want to miss a day my friends......Mike
Nice! Two great Long Island guitarists. I played with a few others, like Al Pitrelli and the late female guitar wiz Ronni Crooks (who was also a protege’ of jazz great Billy Bauer, who Satch also studied with.) A Vai story…I was sent to “my Father’s Place” club around ‘82 to review Steve self-releasing his first solo album, “Flexible.” I brought my drummer along and remember how we thought Steve was our guitarist Eric Rudy (from PA,) who had recently left to replace Steve Morse in the remaining Dixie Dregs, when Via went solo. Vai LOOKED and PLAYED just like our guy Eric. It was like a “Twilight Zone” episode. After we realized it was indeed two different guys…Steve’s mom and dad walked over to our table. They had heard I was there to write a review, so the came to say hi and give me a promo copy of “Flexible”…and inside, on a napkin, his mom wrote “Please write something nice about our son, he’s a good boy.” I STILL have that album and napkin.
This great stuff and fine production. Thanks to these incredible musicians
