I recently bought a used Kawai CP1, the electric grandpiano. OMG what an amazing sound and the tweaking you can do to make it even better, is just phenomenal.

I will seek you out just to hear your "nerdy" piano facts! Love it, please, keep it up!

Just a suggestion: when you play a demo of a sound, please include all the parameters in the typed captions for exactly what settings you used. That would be very helpful. Also as to placing a mic back next to the soundboard, I can understand the logic but no listener is going to sit back there right next to the soundboard. The experience is either as a player or as a listener, and with the instrument either up against a wall or in the middle of a room. BTW I just played this piano yesterday in a showroom and your recording makes it sound much better than it did in the showroom...not sure why. Still the action was really great! They said you can add more speakers if necessary.

    Hey, great video!
Currently I'm between the CA 99 anf CA 701. Both models are priced reletiv close to each other. Therefore, my question, which of the two models can offer more or has more value?
Do you think the newly installed speaker system in the 701 and the new pinao samples outweigh the sound of the hybrid technology of the CA 99? Or does the CA 99 still have the edge due to its hybrid technology?
A comparison would be very interesting :)
    Thanks.

ca99 will be still better, it can be compare only with ca901, new samples it's only marketing, go with ca99, definitely, wooden soundboard, etc.

Maybe CA 901, neither of the others you have mentioned is up to current industry standards as far as high end digital pianos go.

does the ca99/901 come close to the sound of an acoustic piano? Through speaker not headphone.

Beautiful instrument and sounds. I'd be curious to hear an episode that compares this to the K-200. Similar price points, digital vs acoustic. What do ya say guys?

I have played the CA99 vs K-200 in a Kawai dealer, as well as the CLP-795GP, NU1X, N2, N3X vs Kawai K-200 and Yamaha b2 in a Yamaha/Kawai dealer. I think, sound-wise, real acoustic pianos still win in many areas. One area where small pianos lose, in a comparison with these top digital pianos, is the bass response. But other than that, the whole experience to play a real piano is still superior, I find. And the minute you move to a baby grand piano like the Kawai GL-10 or Yamaha GB1K, you leave behind the "upright piano sound" that instruments such as the CA901/Novus or NU1X, N2 create. You now have a comparatively large soundboard space that produces sound up and down, rather than just tiny speakers in the CA901/Novus (the soundboard produces mainly bass tones).
Kawai used to make larger digital pianos than what they are making these days. For example, the Concert Performer CP series (CP1 or CP200) had a real baby grand piano shell with 9 speakers (one of them was a large 10" woofer on the underside of the instrument) and several speakers around the perimeter of the soundboard (plus one more on the bottom). So, I would say none of current Kawai digital/hybrid pianos has the elegant look and powerful speakers of the now discontinued CP series.

Best sounds with newer CA901 or NV5S ?

CA 99 was very good but not as good as.... I'm not going there, may it rest in peace. Smart of Kawaii to try to do better. I will compare the CA 901 to CLPs.

Someone needs to remind Ted that no piano demo is complete without a Ray Manzarek impersonation.

I got a 701 and it was making a clicking sounds when hitting the key. I upgraded for the 901 and same issue. I am so very disappointed this piano!! Does any one has the same issue with their piano?

I once had this teacher that swore up and down her Clavinova was making a weird sound. We brought it into the shop and it turns out it was something in her house that resonated at a certain frequency when she played.
