  • The compact and lightweight Silent Guitar is the perfect instrument for practice, travel, and live performance. Although ultra-quiet acoustically, the Studio Response Technology (SRT) Powered preamp system delivers natural-sounding acoustic tone through headphones or the line output. Onboard studio-quality effects enhance your playing experience, a line input lets you jam along to backing tracks, and the detachable wooden frame facilitates easy transport. Play whenever and wherever inspiration strikes!

I bought one of these a while ago intending for it just to be something fun to noodle on late at night on the sofa or something, but it's ended up mostly replacing my real acoustics for live playing. It's just so light, comfy and has a far better plugged in sound than 90% of onboard pickup systems with zero feedback issues. I've recorded a few times with it too and was often asked by guitarist friends which of my guitars I used as the acoustic parts sounded great, the reaction when I told them was always amusing, haha.

I’ve had the SLG200S for a few years and love it. I consider it the most valuable guitar I own even though I have guitars that cost more. It is a great tool for practice and allows me mix in a track of the song I am working on from my iPad, plug in the headphones and really work on the music. And then take the guitar when I’m playing out, plug into a DI and into the PA and get great sound. I do think these are due for a refresh, with some Bluetooth connectivity as a start. But all in all, these are fantastic. We have just moved to a new town and are in an apartment for a while. Will be great in this situation and I am so fond of the technology that I am about to buy my 15 year old son who plays the violin a Yamaha YEV so he can experience the same practice efficiency to help him grow as a musician.

Some people have reservations about these, without a doubt not traditional. I have played them and really liked them a lot but have yet to pull the trigger on a purchase. Innovative for sure and Yamaha makes great guitars! (I have two.) I believe the SLG200S would work real well for my original acoustic instrumentals. Glad you reviewed one. I think they look really nice too.

Always wondered how this guitar worked. Thank you for sharing. Feels like this is the bones of a well made Semi-Hollow. This does bring into question the need for the wood we all know and love. If the sustain is the center beam(spine?)/neck, then perhaps we have all been a little to closed minded about the science of guitars. Ok, we are all romantics about these stringed instruments, but this is showing how it may be we can have new shapes and sizes and still achive the sounds we are looking for.
    Very interesting.

I have the nylon version of this guitar and I really, really enjoy playing it! It sounds great too through my pa or when playing thru headphones. The built in reverb is nice and having the option to plug my iPhone into the aux input makes for great practice sessions. I may get the steel string version too.

Thanks for the exposure. I'd seen both nylon and steel string versions in the larger music shops here in NYC which are many. I'd never played one, though my first impression here is that this one sounds quite like a steel string acoustic. Not ducky sounding like piezo pickups on even a descent acoustic, so it would be Interesting to hear how Yamaha pulls this off. Either by sampling, or modelling of sorts.
I could use one! We have animals and the house gets a bit loud at times when the need to lay down some tracks arises. I often have to resort to recording at another part of the house. : ) Currently. I have to mic with condensers (always best) or use a LL Baggs Lyric, but this Yamaha looks like a viable option. Looks cool, too!
The sustain is largely the Mahogany through body, yet that's hollowed out for the electrics. Nice!
Think I'll try one out. Thank you Jonathan!

these guitars look pretty interesting, and I have never heard one or played one.
It sounds really nice. I don’t hear much quack from the piezo at all.
I am actually interested in trying one of these instruments. Maybe when things open back up here, I can go try one at the store.
It also probably isn’t as prone to humidity and temperature fluctuations, which is a huge plus in my book! I have a Harley Benton GS mini copy that I take with me places, but I wouldn’t perform with it, because it’s not as easy to play as my other guitars.🐰❤️🎸🎶🤝✌️

A very special Thank you for fulfilling my wish to review this guitar. My son owns an older one without tuner and i was pretty curious how your judgement is. I like it, it offers so many options but is light weight so can be played for hours without having problems with shoulder and back. Normaly piezos are not my cup of tea but this ones surprised me. And it takes pedals quite good. So again Thanks for this vid and stay safe ☮️

I had a go of one of these a while back. They sound very nice but I personally found it uncomfortable to play. It kinda forced me to play with my right arm in different position I’m used to. I imagine it’s something you might get used to. Handy if you were travelling a lot or living in close quarters to others. Great design 😀👍👍

  • @ElyasChange
    @ElyasChange Před 3 lety +2

Absolutely beautiful playing Jonathan ! I've been considering this one because need an acoustic to cut through the mix at live band gigs without feedback but the only thing holding me back is the playability, cos I'm used to a normal acoustic where you can rest your arm and this seems to lack that. I don't know cos I haven't tried one so a penny for your thoughts

I've been waiting for you to review this guitar. I have one and love it, although I did replace the factory Urea saddle with a bone saddle which really helped balance out the string tones and extra reverb the electronics has even when reverb isn't on. I think this guitar can mimic an acoustic very well, but also can mimic a non-acoustic. I have a Bluetooth receiver velco'd to mine to input music from my smart phone into the aux, then wired headphones. works great. Definitely one for the collection.

Do you always play with just thumb and index on your finger picking hand, I’m trying to learn to play finger style with thumb and index/Middle/ring fingers, or is this just your preference for this demo? I find it easier with just thumb and index finger but I fear to learn this way now would perhaps be a bad habit to try and break at a later date 🤷‍♂️ I’m 46 and only been playing for two years.
I love how this little beast sounds, it’s weight and functionality seem just great too.

Great sound, great playing and beautiful original composition. Thanks for sharing. What type of amp & settings are you using to get such great results? You mentioned "Recorded with the T-Bone SCT800, UAD Apollo Twin Duo on Digital Performer 9.5" but amp is not noted. The Laney next to you isn't mic'd, so must be another. Could you also go direct into DAW (without external amp) and get similar results? The reason I ask is I live in a really noisy place and am looking for a good acoustic recording solution.

I've played for awhile haven't seen one of these want to play classical and a lot of time with headphones on then I want to go out in the country and play their in the trees by the river how does this stack up. Yes, the "silent guitar." I kept waiting to hear just how silent it is when not amplified, since that seems to be the main feature of the guitar. To be able to play it and not disturb others with the sound. Guess I'll have to look elsewhere. Nice playing, though.
