    // My Story
    I am currently a software developer who once modeled and thought I wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry. While I was modeling in Hong Kong, I eventually felt the desire to further my education. I decided to depart the modeling world and move back to Canada, knowing that could be the end of my modeling opportunities. I attended Ryerson University for GCM (Graphic Communications Management), as I thought I might still work in the fashion industry in another capacity. It was in my last year of university, I was introduced to a very basic coding course. I instantly fell in love. From there I knew I wanted to pursue software development but didn't have a clue where to start. I didn't want to go back to university as I just completed a four-year degree. I decided to enroll in a 10-week intensive coding Bootcamp. From there I started working at a small startup learning and growing my technical and soft skills. I then transitioned to a larger company where I am a software developer and technical consultant today.

    I recently started Udacity Blockchain Nanodegree program. After couple of weeks, I started get annoyed by how most of their content was outdated. Most of them were written in 2018 and the code snippets they provide weren't even working. It was so frustrating so I decided to cancel my membership. Also for people like me who have worked in web dev and node for sometime it is really a straight forward option. I am just started learning Blockchain dev and it is a lot of moving parts, but at least I don't need to think about learning a new language, syntax etc. That helps

      Get a GitHub account and then start saving projects there. Not only will you be able to talk about what to do, but you will be able to show your capabilities also. It becomes your portfolio for potential employers to look at to see if you can actually do what you talk about doing. And your projects don't need to be actual work experience, make some games, create a journal program that tracks your journey on finding work. Remember: The more activity that a GitHub account has also shows them the more serious you are about this type of work.

      github can help a candidate to being called for an interview?

    • @bryanpark2645
      @bryanpark2645 Před 2 lety

      @@lunaeclipse5768 GitHub won't get you called in for an interview, Only you can get yourself called for an interview.. GitHub will step in when you encounter that not having work experience. You might not have paid work experience but you will have volunteer work experienced. Some employers consider it to be better than paid version. So volunteer time to yourself and code your version of a favorite game, a to do list, something else. Then you will have something to show when you get that job interview.

    Heyla, those figures for Europe are wrong. How do I know that, well - I live in Europe and worked in a few European countries for the past few years. The figures in general, always depends on the seniority of the developer, knowledge etc. I for instance (and no offence here), after working my arse off, sleepless nights etc for years to learn x, y, z and still doing that from time to time to keep up with new tech stack, I wouldn't get out of my bed for 70K/year.

    Pretty much everyone I know knows Python. My friend working with quantum computers knows Python, my friend who worked mainly in Java knows Python, me myself a Junior Full-stack developer know Python. That is mainly because most CS courses teach you Python as introductory course since it is probably easier to grasp than some other more primitive languages.
