I have many Asian friends, and if they do something there parents blame everyone but there kids! Lol.
It's kind of offensive to consider another extremely intelligent and compassionate creature disgusting down to its core. There is certainly a reason for it, because it was difficult to maintain a safe environment for pigs from disease back when running water was scarce etc. but now it's no longer the case. It's taken a bit to far with regard to the moral dilemma when a lot of other things are ignored from religious text (weather it's telling to do or not do something).

Aziz is culturally Muslim, but as he said, he isn't religious. The sooner you start realizing that you can't control other people's lives, the sooner Islam will actually learn to coexist with other religions, and the sooner we can actually have world peace. Plenty of Christians have differing views on what is allowed or not as well, but they don't kill each other over it. Live and let live.

I don't feed pork to my Muslim friends - that would be disrespectful.... but I will certainly eat pork in front of them. I was vegetarian for 27 years and it never bothered me if meat eaters ate meat in front of me. My dad was Jewish and I would eat pork around him - it was never an issue.
I'm muslim and I don't mind if people drink alcohol or eat pork in front of me! It's not that big of a deal, and I don't think it's disrespectful at all!! You do you and I do me😂🙏🏾

Xiao Hei I used to be like that but then after awhile I knew I couldn't keep the facade up anymore. I personally find the religion a lot of nomadic nonsense so I came clean to my parents that I wasn't muslim anymore. Neither were impressed but they've grown to understand my decision now and I personally feel much happier not having to pretend to be something I'm not. I still celebrate Eid and join in with the Ramadan evening meals but as for the religious aspect I've kicked that nonsense in the curb where it belongs

As i believe religion and culture is interlinked, you can't treat them separately. and yes you are right it should be facet of culture rather than religion, but how can you say it shouldn't be facets of religion. Culture is born out of religion, as I think.

Yeah, Conan misspoke. You can tell he was grasping to try to find something to say. There was a huge pause before he said it. Unfortunately, the first thing that came to him didn't make much sense and made him look sound ignorant. But it happens. Most of the conversation was about religion, not Asian culture, so that's where his mind went.

My cousins and I (most of whom are no longer religious) have girlfriends/boyfriends and our parents, while uncomfortable about it, sort of let it slide. But the one time my dad caught me eating a peperoni pizza they both got upset and he had my mom call me and talk to me about it after (they were visiting in college that weekend; they must have gone home and discussed it more).
Although to be fair, I don't bring pork or girlfriends around the house... I just occasionally let them know that I'm still eating pork and dating so that it's not a surprise when I finally do bring a ham sandwich and a girl home someday.
You know a comedian's grown into their own when their stories on interviews aren't just bits from their specials.

Aziz's story telling talent is just amazing. He just looks like a school boy who ran away from school and was forced into an over sized coat and then asked to sit in the Conan studio. And Conan really seems to enjoy his humor. And when Conan laughs, you must. That's just the way humans are wired.
This issue comes up every time I visit my parents. I buy bacon because, how else do you eat breakfast, and my mom does the exact same thing every single time where she says "Why are you eating pork, you're a muslim!" and then I say "I haven't been a muslim for 14 years, that's not about to change" and she goes into a dramatic monologue about me not respecting god.
And then they buy me more bacon when they're grossery shopping anyway, because if it a South Asian parent values higher than religion, it's their children eating tons of food.
Conan doesn't even put an effort into following the script. LOL at the transition from his laugh into the question at 00:54

My position as a Muslim is to wish him the best and pray that Allah guide him and us. I definitely agree with Aziz on this. His parents shouldn't dictate what he can or cannot eat. As a Muslim, I know that there is no compulsion in Islam. If you want to follow the religion or not, that is your choice.
His parents were especially wrong in assuming that his girlfriend was forcing him to eat pork [Their son is perfect, and therefore someone else has to be forcing him]

Actually no one apart from your parents have a right to reprimand you for your lack of faith. They still have the right to keep trying to persuade their children to return to faith. However things like honour killing isn't permitted.
"I'm not religious" and "I eat pork", so basically, he is not a Muslim then. There was a time when saying, "I'm not religious", meant that person was not too serious on his/her relgious. But not a point of disregarding the most basic and general rule of their faith.
