So in the novel Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff ends up having a son called Linton. Possible name for a colt maybe? Also if you wanted to heep the Harry Potter connection, his 3 children were James, Lily & Albus.
Also fun coincidence - in the book Wuthering Heights the great love of Heathcliff's life is Cathy (Catherine). And what's the Spanish name for Catherine? Catalina. So you've got your own Heathcliff & Cathy!

@@jelphick4686 There's some lovely names in the book. Isabella is Heathcliff's wife so you could have Bella for a filly - then you'd have Bear, Bryni & Bella as a sweet little family group. Also if you had a "B" name for Bear's foal then that'd be SO cute!

That is assuming Bryni carries the chestnut gene. If not, you'd have to cut out palomino and cremello. That still leaves some cool options, though. Either way, that foal is going to be beautiful!

    Genetics nerd here
    Ok so Bryni is E_ A_ nCr/ncr
So buckskin (bay with cream) we do not know if she is double extension or agouti as we cannot know without a test
And sire is ee with unknown agouti and nCrnCr so he is garunteed to throw cream.
You can end up with either a black chestnut or bay based baby
And you will have a 50 50 shot of a single or double dilute
    So your color options are
    Buckskin
    Palomino
    Smokey black
    Perlino
    Cremllo
    Smokey cream
Now if you can get some genetic tests I can give you more exact results

@@elphick.event.ponies To go to sort of GSCE level genetics, the dilute gene is co dominant, so if you have a copy it will affect the offspring. We know Bryni has one copy because she is buckskin, and Harry has two because he is cremello. So the foal has a 75% chance of having two copies, and a 25% chance of having one. If you have one copy, you get buckskin, Palomino or smokey black. If you have two copies, you have cremello, perlino or smokey cream.
Buckskin is one dilute gene on a bay (agouti) base which means Bryni has a black and a bay gene affecting her colour, but both these genes are dominant, and we can't know if she has two genes the same (homozygous) or two genes that are different (heterozygous)- so for example, it's possible she could pass on a chestnut colour gene only, and mixed with one dilute gene from Harry, you get a palomino. But equally she could be homozygous for the black gene, which means palomino won't be a possibility.
(apologies to any experts, I know I've over simplified this!)

So genetics wise if Bryni carries one agouti gene (which makes bay/buckskin/perlino) & one non agouti gene (which makes black/smoky black/ smoky cream) then you could possibly get smoky black or smoky cream. If Bryni carries one black gene (bay & black) & one red gene (chestnut/palomino/cremello) then you could also get palomino or cremello.
Also if Harry is agouti, which we don't know by looking at him as the agouti gene isn't expressed on a red base, the likelihood of smoky black/smoky cream much lower. He could also be a carrier of the silver gene (which again isn't expressed on reds), so there could be a silver smoky black/smoky cream/buckskin/perlino.
The most likely outcome however is a buckskin or perlino foal.

    O. M. G. Way to go Mum!! What a beautiful faerie princess pony stallion. Not only is he a pretty colour, he's absolutely gorgeous and full of quality. I think though, that he 'might' not be an actual cremello. It's hard to tell from the video where he's fidgeting around and moving and then there's the lighting (no offense, it's really good, but..) I think he's actually a gold cream champagne. I say this because it looks like he might have green eyes and possibly some 'mottling' or speckled skin around his eyes and muzzle. If this is the case, there is a huge array of fabulous colour possibilities for your foal. Even if he's 'just' a cremello, there are still many interesting possibilities for very special foal colours. Here is a link to the UC Davis Equine Coat Color Calculator, which you may already be aware of. If you input the colours of the two parents, you can see all the possibilities. Please keep in mind that Brynnie is a 'buckskin' and not a dun according to the rules of genetic testing. Also note, the only way to say one way or the other for Cynheidrefawr Heathcliff whether he's cremello or cream gold champagne is to have genetic testing done. Here's the coat calculator; www.animalgenetics.us/Equine/CCalculator1.asp
EDITED: after looking up cynheidrefawr heathcliff in the all breed pedigree database, it looks like he probably is a cremello after all, so I'm not sure what I was seeing RE the green eyes and mottling. At any rate, absolutely stunning!!

So nice to see a Welsh d stallion that’s not overweight! I wouldn’t say he’s too lean at all, I think we’re just all too used to seeing overweight welsh d’s as that’s what the showing circuit seem to prefer. I’ve just recently unfortunately lost my Welsh d mare who was out of a maesmyach mare and by a thorneyside stallion and she was the best little horse ever, always wanted to please and so easy on the ground and she absolutely loved her job! I’m so gutted we never got the chance to breed from her as she was the perfect sporty type welsh, a decent size at 14.3 and a extremely pretty bright bay. The definitely are the best ponies out there❤️

Depends if he's perlino, cremello or smokey cream and the genetics behind your mare. He will always pass on one cream, your mare is 50/50 if she will pass on her cream or not. So you will get a buckskin/palomino/smokey black or one of the double dilutes from that cross.

Hi Jeanette (or may I call you Hobbit?), I like your thinking process about putting Bryni in foal and stallion choice. Meg's a bit naughty in making it sound like a whim because you've clearly given it a lot of thought. Everybody's here because they love Megan and her energy/enthusiasm, the ponies, the eventing, the schooling, and all the behind the scenes stuff, but you are a major part of it too, Hobbit. She is so lucky to have had the full support of you and her Dad throughout her whole horsey journey. You and Meg have a great partnership, but I think you have a great deal of knowledge and experience that you play down somewhat; after all you guided Meg and her older siblings from lead rein pony through to her current level of BE Eventing. Of course there will have been lessons and trainers etc, but you've been an ever-present, caring for humans and ponies, and soaking up horse knowledge over all these years.
It is interesting to hear your opinions on breeding, and what type of horse or pony you hope to achieve from each mare. It's not just about creating the ideal event horse for Meg, but about having well-bred, well-mannered, adaptable ponies that can turn a hoof to anything, as you said. Whilst it would be wonderful to keep every home-produced foal, I guess that probably won't be possible, but you have a clear vision of the type of ponies you'd like to produce; the mum/teenager ride which will hack out happily but has sufficient quality/ability to compete at a decent level. There could be a great deal of satisfaction in attending shows and events in future and seeing your home-breds doing well with their new partners.
The breeding side is interesting to follow (who doesn't love foals?) and will probably help grow Meg's channel, but I think it is going to be very rewarding for you, bringing up these babies (along with your grandma duties, too.)
Love to you too, Meg, even if this has been more directed to Hobbit. I'm of similar age to her; go go middle-aged women, yay!

Hi Elaine, thank you so much for your lovely message :-) I do feel exceptionally lucky to be included & involved in this exciting journey. I absolutely adore our wonderful native ponies, we really are so lucky in this Country to have such amazing breeds. As you say, it isn't possible to keep every pony but we will take a huge amount of pleasure in following the journey's of any that do go on to new homes. Hopefully we are able to give them the best start in life & equip them to go on to lead happy, useful lives. For them to give us, & their future owners endless amounts of fun, companionship, love & happiness, because at the end of the day, that's really what owning these beautiful animals should be all about.

@@jelphick4686 😊🐴 I really appreciate your reply, Hobbit. Coming from Scotland, I feel the same way about Highland ponies as you do about the Welshies; ideal family ponies, have seen them progress in affiliated dressage, do cross country, treat beginners gently on treks but cover the ground at speed on day rides for experienced riders, and I've ridden stalking ponies which can carry a 25 stone stag off the hill. Very versatile. Clydesdales are now being increasingly used as riding horses. And of course Meg's Connemaras are terrific too. We are indeed blessed in the British Isles to have such a variety of native breeds to suit all ages and types of rider.

He's lovely! I agree with preferring the sporty D's. Mine is a more sporty type and I feel like he copes much better with higher intensity stuff like fast fun rides and hunting (not that we do much high intensity stuff because we're mostly happy hackers 😂).

Omg yay 2 creme babies gauranteed Milly's and Bryni's!!
Milly can have either a smoky black or a palomino
Bryni can have a buckskin, perlino, cremello or a palomino!! So exciting
Bear can produce a palomino or buckskin or chestnut or bay!!
What are y'all hoping for! My fave are palominos ❤

    • @ingalinden4097
      @ingalinden4097 Před 3 lety +1

Milly can also have a buckskin depending on the stallions agouti. Bryni could have a smokey black or smokey cream, again depending on agouti. And Bear could also possibly have black/smokey black... that agouti 😉 without knowing their genetics its impossible to say for sure.

Harry is gorgeous! I also just learnt that gray is considered a white hair patterned coat. Damn, horse color genetics are so interesting!
