- NERF MEGA XL Is back, and this time it's with more shotgun-ness. The Double Crusher is a pump-action two-shot MEGA XL blaster that is probably the most attractive looking one at the party, but when it comes down to performance might have a few hiccups. Double Tap is always going to be super fun, and giant nerf darts make it better.

The upgraded lighting looks beautiful! Mega XL darts are actually 31mm in diameter, so they're a pretty good analog for 30mm grenades. I'm excited to see what the hobby does with them

It would be interesting to see if they have equivalent plunger tubes given the poorer performance, though my money would be on the smart AR reducing performance

This seems like a good breach and clear blaster. Especially if they rule it breaks shields.
This may be a bad idea, but it might be interesting to see a revisit to the idea behind the Barrel Break, except make it for XL darts. It would feel sick to run around with a double-barrel side by side of that size.

From what i can see the consensus on the new ammo types are:
Mega XL:Huh, thats kinda cool.
Hyper:Too bouncy, but has potential.
Ultra: Why
Mega XL: quant and fun
Hyper: has its own niche
Ultra: why?
Mega XL is big and fun
Hyper is actually good
Ultra is... not bad, but definitely isn't good.

I've got all three current blasters in this line, and I love them. The price point IS high, factor that in, and in terms of performance...well, they move a foam projectile for a distance at a speed. But they are FUN, I can't stress that enough.
The Boomdozer's probably the best value, at 40 bucks, the Big Rig's good if you just want to dip your toes into the line. But the Double Crusher might be the most fun to operate for me. Unlike Hyper and Ultra, I'm sold on the Mega-XL line so far. They're oversized, goofy, and an absolute joy to play with.
Cool review, we ended up making a cool 3x buck shot mod kit for it lol.
The double crusher is the one that I would have slung over the back in a scabbard for when I need to use it. If I was a dedicated shield buster/super zombie killer, I would carry the boom dozer as a primary. That being said, I'm already working on a masterkeying the double crusher.
I found the darts that came with mine were much softer than the ones that came with my Big Rig, and the harder ones work much better as well as keep their shape longer, of course. I have yet to see which are in the refill pack.
New lighting looks pretty dope

I have a really fun discovery, the inner faux barrel material Hasbro uses has the perfect OD to fit these darts on them. Even better, it also fits snug into the muzzle attachment ends on the AF Pro blasters; you can make the Nexus, Stryker, Aeon and Conquest fire these, just by salvaging a Recon barrel!
This as a lever action would be pretty slick if I say so myself. If nerf were to make magazines for a blaster in the series it would be massive.
I went to Target and got both the boom dozer and the big rig. I no more than got home and my buddy text me a pic of the double crusher. 1 hour later and I own all 3 of the mega xl blasters. Me and my buddy spent the better part of the next 2 hours shooting everything. They have such a satisfying thud when the darts hit. So much fun!!!!
Anyone else think, that nerf could be sitting on a gold mine if they’d make a nerf barrett m99 with these mega darts… it’d be a single shot huge sniper. I’d pay a pretty penny for something like that

Imagine making an insert akin to a shotgun choke that has 3 Elite darts or whatever fits. Just an adaptation of the Boomdozer’s cylinder swap tbh

Walcom! I posted a review on the Double Crusher a few days ago (Instagram). I also just bought a box of Mega Xl darts and found out:
If you smush the darts and roll them gently in your hands for a little bit, the darts just slide in like butter. Trust me, it works so much better!

cant get your hopes up with nerf shotguns but then it would take a stupid big spring to fire both of them at once
This was the first XL blaster i bought. You need to really push those darts into the barrel. If the foam is visible, its not pushed in enough. Don't be gentle with you girth darts!

If they made whistler Mega XL darts they'd be perfect for something like an underslung M203 or GP-25 nerf analogue, that'd be really cool, or since they are 30mm in diameter give or take they'd fit even better in a nerf equivalent of an AGS-17 Palmya or AGS-30 Atlant, those would be amazing

The double crusher is basically a nerf mega xl version of the double breech
If you add the Longstrike sight attachment to the front of the blaster, it fits the China Lake aesthetic perfectly
Would love to see a mod of the FN Grenade Launcher that fires Mega XL.
If nerf wanted to make a Grenade Launcher, they'd make XL dart Blaster in the mechanisms of the Zombie Strike Sledge Fire.

The double crusher is the one I picked up, and I had the same thoughts as you, stock too short, grip is Ok-ish, the pump grip is very comfortable and I love the smooth prime. The dart storage was an issue at first, but as a right hander myself I found that if you cup the bottom of stock with your left hand, and push the dart out with your left thumb into your left hand fingers and roll it out from under the stock, its really not that bad and I can do it fairly quickly. The movement of doing it is similar to a tactical reload of a shotgun with the breach open, something that I learned from my service in the military.

I won't lie I feel bad for slugs because they have to be poked by the firing pin in a shotgun in order to shoot, Ouch! That must hurt. Lol
I think the stock storage on that side is meant for you to continue holding the foregrip and using the trigger hand to load new darts.

I think they could have included a range sight, since the best style of fire is indirect and at an angle.
I like the newer style, but I don't know which I prefer, the new one or the old one. But I have a question, have you moved since he firing range is different

I don’t feel this is gonna be a long range or mid range blaster, it’ll be more of a close range alternative to the others. The boomdozer is the more reliable and versatile option, but is more of a primary, you could run this or the big rig as a secondary just in case you come across something you can’t take out with a normal dart.

If anything the mega xl are fun, something i think nerf had to get back to. Just my opinion of course. I personally love the xl bc of the fun factor. Also really diggin the space to product shots are sweet really like it. Also you not stating the obvious lack of paint on both sides of the blaster, actually seemed kinda positive of a review. Well done sir well done. Also im really wanting a Walcom sticker how do i go about adding one to my collection.
