  • In today's video, I try my best to compare two models of the 370z. I'm, not the best person when it comes to comparing cars. Especially when one of the cars I'm reviewing is my own I may be a little biased towards mine. I hope you guys enjoyed the video!!!

    I think the sports package coupe is the best value for somebody who wants a good driver's car. The synchro rev match(SRM) is an interesting feature but I don't use it that much now, as I think the engine is a little more responsive without it engaged. I did use SRM for the first 1200 miles in order to smooth out upshifts and downshifts and minimize driveline shock during the break-in period.
    I'm thinking of getting the AAM 3" dual cat back exhaust and some nice Braum black leatherette sport seats.

      On manuals, the SRM is not available on the base model; you have to get one of the sport trim levels, like mine(sport coupe) or the sport touring option.
      I did not get the sport coupe version for the SRM but because of the other upgrades. For me, it was more important to retain the skill I had developed in throttle blipping and heel and toe braking on downshifts. It is amazing though when you do downshifts with SRM engaged, as the computer matches your engine speed to the intermediate shaft speed perfectly and you notice no jerk at all in the downshift.

    I just did some spirited driving through the twisty roads(Hwy 1) along the coast of Marin County north of San Francisco. The grip of my 19"(245 front, 275 rear) Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires was fantastic. My car is the sport coupe 370Z with 6-speed manual transmission and I really got to appreciate the handling finesse of this car. Precision steering, minimal body roll and plenty of reserve traction for the times when I did push it a little too hard in some S-curves. About 25 years ago I used to do a lot of high-performance driving in the back county roads in San Diego in my Porsche 944S, a great handling car. Even though my Z weighs about 500 lbs more than my Porsche did I believe it has better handling potential. To get good performance out of the Porsche I had to study the handling characteristics of the car and practice it diligently to get good at it. This Z comes out of the box with a superbly tuned suspension and makes me look like a better driver than I really am. I think it's time to upgrade my driving skills 😄

      @@itchyonion3559 Yes, my Z's body roll was minimal and that was before I had stiffer Hotchkiss anti-sway bars on the front and back. The car has virtually no body roll now and corners nearly flatly. The trade-off has been a higher level of ride harshness, but I'm happy with the trade-off.

      @@itchyonion3559 Every car's suspension is designed as a compromise between sharpness in handling and lack of harshness. You and I are probably examples of people who prefer greater levels of handling control and would be willing to accept a moderate loss of ride comfort. My rear anti-sway bar has three levels of stiffness and I chose the middle level, as it seemed the best compromise between comfort and handling. Eventually I plan to replace the rubber suspension, gearbox and differential bushings with stiffer polyurethane bushings; I could go with solid spherical heim joints, but those would be too harsh for the street.
      As set up from the factory for the average driver who wants a good handling car that people can live with on a daily basis, I think Nissan's engineers did a good job. When I did my fast drive down California's coastal road, US 1, with a stock set up, I raced a Mustang GT on those tight curves with lots of changes of elevation. I had no trouble in outhandling that car, even though I'm not an expert racer. Out of the box, the Z is no slouch in the handling department.

    I got the base just so I can buy my own LSD and tires. Bigger wheels slow your car down and Nissan's LSDs aren't too good. The only redeeming feature for the sport package is the rev matching. It's the same deal with the Nismo Version too. By the way, wtf is up with your jeans? lmao

      @francoisdupuis4308 Před 7 lety +4

      What about the brake kit? The wings that is fonctionnal and adds around 280-300pound of down force to the larger back wheel?. The lsd is fine unless you go drifting everyweekend. I track(no drift) mine every weekend since I bought it and its working perfecly after 50,000miles. The rev matching is easy on the motor support and make the downshift Ezpz at the track.

    • @Tain950
      @Tain950 Před 7 lety +3

      I own the NISMO there is definitely a difference in handling. The NISMO literally has no body roll what so ever. That being said the suspension on the NISMO is so stiff that it is brutal over bumps.

      @francoisdupuis4308 Před 7 lety +2

    • @sharpemang
      @sharpemang Před 7 lety

      But like I said, you can get the exact same performance or even better with less money vs the price you pay for a Nismo in the aftermarket. And the aerodynamic bits are really cool, but also limit the car's top speed, hence why the base and sport package 370 is slightly faster once the wind starts picking up. You can make the base stiff if you want and add whatever you want to add to combat any body roll. But my base 370Z has taken out countless Nismo versions around a track and in a straight line. All I did was add new tires, breather mods, LSD and messed with the computer with Z1 motor sports and it's drastically better than the Nismo for less than 4k I spent on everything. They don't make the Nismo crazy enough to make it so different from the base models so there's not much of an incentive to get the Nismo. Subaru does this with there WRX and the STI too. If the Nismo was 200lbs lighter or had 70 more horsepower and torque then I would see the value in it. Other than that, anyone could just get a base and spend 2k-4k to run circles around the Nismo Z.

    I just bought a 2019 370Z sport coupe with the 6-speed manual transmission in magnetic black with a black fabric interior. I'm going through the break-in process for the engine with no revs over 3500, varying the revs between 2000 and 3500 as I drive and only gentle acceleration for the first 1200 miles. I'll change the oil and filter after that and go with the recommended 5,000 mile service intervals if the oil holds up okay. My transmission was a little stiff and notchy at first but it's smoothing out as I put more miles on it. I'm also going to do a transmission and differential oil change at 5,000 miles, just to get the metal particles out of suspension in the oil and reduce further transmission and differential wear. I may put a larger capacity finned aluminum differential cover to reduce the temps in the VLSD. I may wind up doing a similar thing with the engine oil pan to help with dissipating the engine oil heat.

So it stops at poorly compared to the sport?

      I seriously didn’t notice a huge difference in body roll driving both cars. I would say since the tires are a little wider the car felt more planted down. While with the base the car feels more tail happy. The Akebono’s make a huge difference. With extra pistons to help distribute the breaking force evenly. However, while using base brakes at full lock it feels like the pistons are struggling to stop the car. In my opinion Akebono’s are far superior to base breakers.

I wouldn't be surprised if the spring rate was different also.The reason the 370 has a bad rep is because of the base model. My 2014 Sport Tech is amazing, the only thing I wish it had was a Targa top and thicker paint

      Nissan upgraded the clutch starting in 2018 with the Exedy unit and it is a big improvement over the previous clutch.
      I got a 2019 sports pkg 6MT new and had Hotchkiss stiffer anti-roll bars installed to improve handling. Braided steel Teflon core brake lines firmed up the already excellent brakes on the car. Recently, I had a Stillen Gen 3 long tube cold air intake, a Fast Intentions TDX x-pipe exhaust and an EcuTek tune done on a Dynojet chassis dyno and picked up a uniform 15% increase in torque over the whole rev range and an increase in peak rwhp from 282 to 321. The car was a great driver stock but is now a real blast to drive.

    • @JpCharisma
      @JpCharisma  Před 7 lety

      +Ingram Junior If you're talking about Akebono's. That's a brand of brakes that's only on sports package and nismo models. That's what I was comparing not ABS.

    • @ginicholas4322
      @ginicholas4322 Před 6 lety +1

      I think he asked that because the mentioning of the "brakes locking up" which the ABS control not the brakes themselves. The bigger brakes should help with stopping faster. I'm sure every new car in the world comes standard with ABS these days which prevents the average driver of running into the guy in front of them from stomping on the brakes.

    When is this car getting an update?
    Pretty much every car out there is kicking this things ass for less money. Mustang/Camaro/STI/Golf R/Focus RS hell even the Civic SI is killing this thing.

      TeensierPython - explain

    • @TeensierPython
      @TeensierPython Před 6 lety

      Mustang and Camaro are the same price range and totally out perform this car. Golf R/Focus RS is close in horsepower (Focus has the same) has nearly the same performance for about the same money(focus is faster for same money). Civic SI i believe is faster and is much cheaper.
      the 370 is due for an upgrade, it just isnt the sports car bang-for-the-buck it used to be. Or price needs to come down.
      330hp at 39,590$ and 350hp for 45,690$ I don't think they offer a magnetic suspension like a lot of the competitors are. I also don't understand how the car is so expensive, it seems like it is priced the way it is "just because." There is nothing really that technically innovative anymore, its been around for years, and its just not that impressive of a buy.
      If you disagree i would be more than willing to listen, i am in the market for a fun car and the 370z was on the short-list until i saw how far the Camaro and Mustang have come as.

    • @TeensierPython
      @TeensierPython Před 6 lety

      Mustang GT premium with performance pack and magnetic suspension 460hp - $45,685
      Camaro SS 1LE package (magnetic suspension, performance upgrades) 460hp - $46,660
      370z NISMO (tuned suspension, tuned aero) 350hp - $45,690
      It just doesn't look like that good a deal, if you are spending the money buy one of the pony cars. if you want a small 2-seater sports car get one of the Miata twins or one of the BRZ twins.

      Hey! I’m a Z fan and I’ve driven all the cars on your list! I personally prefer the Z because of how it feels I drive it. It feels sharper, more precise, and gives you more feedback. The Z is more of a driver’s car (if you know what I mean) and those others are more of powerful cars with a slight (VERY SLIGHT) lean towards grand touring. The Z doesn’t care about sever comfort, it cares about driving. The mustang and Camaro care about both, so the feedback and feel of driving them is slightly more dead compared to the Z. Would I buy a new Z? No. Would I buy a used one? Yes. But it’s all in the feeling for me rather than power. I’m interested to see what you end up buying!! Whatever it is I’m sure you’ll love it!
