We used to Make Syrup Similar to your Setup.............We Started around 2 am and made 12-14 Gallons of Finished Product Twice a Day (2 Batches a day) for 3 Weeks every Day. Hard Work, No Sleep hardly, Great Memories....We had a Car Rear End Vertical beside the Mill with Gears and Chain running off a Tractor PTO( In South Mississippi )

We had 12 acres of cane. Pa had one of the most efficient operations. Cooked with propane. Took gallon of gas to make gallon of syrup. His last year of growing cane ended when he finished paying off the full time worker and the worker had more money in his hand than he did. Dennis made $8.00 a day. Back in the late 60's.

I love these good ole folk down South. I now am offering high food grade gas burner SS304 cane syrup cooking kits. I love the old way though!

I wish I knew of someone around Louisiana that did this it's a cool process. A girl I dated long ago her friend dads family did this. They looked at me as a city boy but I thought it was really cool how family came together to help up and just spend time.

+welderman27 They used to do it at Old Farmers Day in Loranger, La. out side of Hammond. I think Old Farmer's Day is listed by the Lt. Gov. office of Louisiana Fairs and Festivals. I think it's held late Sept. or early Oct.

Hello, I am from India now relocated to Redmond, Seattle. In India, we call it "KAKVI" . It's very good for health and I take it regularly. But the problem is I don't find Sugar Cane syrup in any US Super Market. How do I get it in US West Coast?

Sure wish I knew where to get one of those big hydrometer's. I am a home brewer and use a hydrometer to check sugar content. the one I have is hard for me to read.

Why none of the blacks that were the ones who mostly cut the cane. Also, the blacks did a lot of the syrup making.

That is because of the Blue Ribbon Mississippi cane. It comes out more dark than other varieties but I assure you that is 100% cane syrup.
