DHAKA, BANGLADESH |Thousands of angry anti-government protester take to Dhaka streets |Sheikh Hasina
Dhaka: Thousands of people from students to rickshaw drivers protested in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka on Friday (August 2), vandalising armoured police vehicles and chanting anti-government slogans as they marched on the streets.
Bangladesh has been going through turmoil in recent weeks as a government job quota reform movement turned fatal claiming over 150 lives.
"People make mistakes. If she (Hasina) would have apologised, everything would be back to normal. If she cannot control it, things will keep getting heated,” said student protester Syed Sadman.
The unrest is the biggest test facing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 76, since she won a fourth term in January elections boycotted by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which were also marred by deadly protests.
