Van Halen Mean Street Intro Cover

- Van Halen's Mean Street intro, the Fair Warning album opener, one of a thousand amazing Eddie things. Absolutely mind boggling to try and understand "how did he come up with that?!". Lightning in a bottle... Every time I listen to it, it feels as fresh as ever, that's the magic of Van Halen. I couldn't imagine the feeling of dropping the needle on this brand new vinyl album, in 1981, and hear that for the first time...

Dude! That was the closest to the original that I've ever heard. Amazing!
You just showed me in 2 minutes what I worked on for 20 years to figure out by ear. You have the gift sir. Excellent.
Wow those 6 people who disliked it must be absolute Eddie clones. I can't wait to hear their renditions. Great job!
So there are six people that can't recognize Talent when they see it ? He's got the feel he's got the tone, the attack, the Finesse and the talent. There's no fumbling there's no guessing. I've seen dozens of Eddie clones. He's no clone and can play a much wider range than that. I'm guessing those six people are probably swifties
They must of hit dislike by mistake.
My man was sweet perfection. Did Eddie proud.
@@GreedRuinsEverything where's your video? Show us how it is done correct, please.... jack arse
how do you even see how many dislikes didn’t they take that out so you can’t see it so long ago ?
ive never seen anyone on youtube nail the intro with the perfectly executed harmonics.....until now 😲
This is making EVH smile for sure.
Man, this is spooky, it sounds exactly like him. Both tone and touch, amazing!
your ability to EXACTLY recreate Eddie's album sound/tone always blows me away!
Not. The sustain is way different at the end.@@wyattblackwood3927
@@wyattblackwood3927 Interesting
@@wyattblackwood3927 You can just let it fade out in post the same as in the actual original recording, what's your point?
@@larrmad7919 no it's not, I lined up the video with the original recording from Fair Warning and it's identical, Plus at the end of his video you can hear the same post-production plate reverb that was added as that harmonic fades out. Also, you can tell how different his guitar sounds when he's actually playing the Mean Street riff than it does from the intro. He overdubbed Eddie Van Halen's original recording over the video to make everyone think he can play it exactly like him. Now I'm not saying he can't play it because obviously there's other videos of him doing it live, but it doesn't sound exactly like Eddie Van Halen's recording the way this does. Believe what you want but that's the truth. I've been involved in video and music recording and editing since the 80s, so I know what I'm talking about.
@@wyattblackwood3927I don’t think you’re correct about that…. It’s clearly a live recording. He’s using the Sunset Sound plate reverb preset to make it sound like the studio version. Also, the studio version has an Eventide Harmonizer on it while Jacob’s recording doesn’t. In Jacob’s recording you can hear his pick attack very clearly while on the record you can’t. Sorry about writing this whole essay to get my point across, but Jacob is just THAT good!
Heard Sammy say that this song is almost impossible to play, especially the intro, you nailed that shit…And with impeccable tone. Outstanding mate!
Yep. Satriani was struggling with the intro. Should have hired Mr. Deraps!
Not quite. Surprised at the miss with the harmonics.
@@karlhouseknecht satch will have it down by the tour and will be consistant for a tour.. satch is a god not a dungeon dweller
Cause he didn’t actually play it. They may know how to play it and go thru the motions without guitar plugged in l. But the sound playing thru speakers isn’t coming from his playing, u can tell cause it sounds to perfect, even if eddy himself played it live it wouldn’t sound so thick and perfect like it does in this video. Sadly it’s like this all thru out CZcams covers. Not saying he’s not correct on how he’s playing it but no one playing it live would sound that good.
@@PedroLopezBeanEater always one of you in chat. Thanks for raising your hand. Bell Head
Most accurate intro of this tune I've EVER heard. Ridiculous, brother.
Unreal tone. Perfect.
You even dug for that second feedback note after the intro. The feedback morphs and you got it!
You do realize that he overdubbed the original recording over this video ?
It's painfully obvious.
@@wyattblackwood3927this is fake? Are you sure? It wasn't obvious to me
The best Van Halen song ever. Nice job.
That's a tough call but best Fair Warning era is best Eddie tone for sure IMO
For those who have not seen Jacob ? He is going to be a rock star..I highly recommend checking out all his videos.. It shows his progression...How many players can play like Eddie and sing like Ian Gillian ? None that I'm aware of..I am still waiting for some type of US tour...I can't wait to see him live..Worth every penny and his drummer Josh kicks ass 🙂
Great VH, Bad originals on the channel but hope he gets there some day. Great player.
Good at copying/covering VH but his original songs aren't anything special. Awful band name and logo as well.
@@KokoTheGorilla69 He will be a rock star...follow him and you will see. If you find a guy who can play like him and sing like Ian Gillian you let me know
Jacob has been around a long time and he's a skilled player but rock star ? No
What's the difference between a rock star and a musician? A rock star is only in it for the money, fame, adoration.
F**K! WOW! That was absolutely off the charts AWESOME! As a huge Eddie fan, and former guitar wannabe (but never could) you totally nailed that. Time to check out your channel. Thanks for sharing.
When it comes to VH... you don't play guitar, you channel Eddie 🤘
It's always nice to hear something new from you, rock on!
Well done " I couldn't imagine the feeling of dropping the needle on this brand new vinyl album, in 1981, and hear that for the first time...
" I can and it was glorious. Oddly enough for as much as I absolutely love this song, it was the intro to Hear About It Later that really grabbed me and my buddy.
That tone is on point for this song/album.
Just love the guitar vibe on that song, one of my favorites by Van Halen, gets my soul fired up. Great job!
Nailed the intro. Probably the best I've heard. Nice job.
This is the BEST I have ever seen anyone play this intro, finally someone sounds like the real thing.. Excellent!!
You saw Joe Satriani botch it on Howard Stern, didn't you? 🤣
OMG that was my first thought. I was sharing Deraps videos on Reddit all morning griping about Joe, and then this drops... perfect timing!!!
He sure did!!!
Yep! 😂 Joe’s a great guitar player, but doesn’t cover VH like Jacob.
Lol!! I was just going to say this!! Haha Dude, you nailed it!!!
Satriani is very overrated. Great example of born at the right time period, at the right place
Sounds fantastic, brother !!!👍 Love it !!! THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN RULES FOREVER ! Waiting to hear some more originals from your 2nd album coming up. ROCK ON BROTHER ! You kick ass man !!!! 👍🤘🎸
My boy SLAYED it. Damn dude
That was such a cool album. I played the entire thing with friends. I was 20 when it came out and still seems like yesterday! Rock On Jacob!
Dayum! That was spot on!
Dude you are killing it. I have watched a number of really good covers of EVH and truthfully there are a few that get close. Your tone and feel for the songs really are the best IMO on utube. Keep up the great work. Until Alex VHalen gets a bunch of guys together to give tribute to the King we will have to make due. It may never happen.
🎸 I enjoyed every second of that! 🎸
Somebody needs to get this dude on Sammy Hagar‘s 2024 Van Halen tour. This is the guy you want to play Eddie Van Halen‘s riffs.
I concur.
He did a better job with this intro than Satch did on the Howard Stern show.
Check out the Deraps covers of 5150 and Aftershock....10/10
They should have J DERAPS on call in case Satriani can’t do a gig. Then if he subs they will definitely fire Joe because, DERAPS is the rightful heir to the EVH throne. No one can play the Van Halen like this kid.
@@564df6g5h4d6f5g4h6d5 I I.
I been sayin' this for years...If you want a Freddie Mercury clone hire Marc Martel, and if you want someone who can mimic Eddie Van Halen perfectly...Deraps!
Sounds great! You captured all of that tone, accuracy, and nuance.
Killer sound, i love hearing your evh covers
Jacob has hands of gold! The other players I think that come close to honoring Ed's style are Phil X and Pete Thorn... But I feel that Jacob actually tops them, because he's one sick and obsessed puppy! Thanks for sharing as always!
There are a lot more than those people who dedicated their lives to sounding like Edward .
All 3 Canadian 😁
Amazing job as always man!
That was near perfect. I watched Joe Satriani butcher that intro yesterday on a Howard Stern clip with Sammy Hagar. Nice
Satriani was like that day Rudy Giuliani gave his speech in front a landscaper 😂
yeah but how many times did this guy practice this? Satch said he knows he butchered it, but he hadn't rehearsed it and wasn't expecting to be asked to play it. And it was 630 in the morning.. All this hate for Satch off one off the cuff request.. Give it a rest everyone knows Joe's gonna blow minds this next summer. He did say he'll definitely have it down and ready by the summer tour.
You're really not a very intelligent guy Mike for so many reasons regarding that comment.
@@rubicon-oh9km to play EVH you need to practice for about 10,000 plus hours from the age of 12. Satriani is good but Jacob Deraps is a true EVH master, and there are only a very, very, small number of EVH masters. Like 2 and one of them is dead!
@@564df6g5h4d6f5g4h6d5that Australian guy from the Pink Floyd cover band isn't bad.
Hell yea, Jacob! Beautiful job!🎉
You nail it. Thanks one of my favorite Van Halen songs. Brings back a lot of memories jam out to this.
Always love watching your VH stuff. Nice catch on the out of tune string and a fantastic correction while playing. A true pro.
You are the only one I have seen that can pull this off accurately, this man is top shelf!
That was perfect! Great work
This is excellent! So smooth!
Verrrrry Naaaaaaice!!!!!! Thanks for sharing !
I couldn't tell the difference. That was perfect.
Best cover & Tone I've heard! Well done sir! Subscribed.
That’s crazy good.
Terrific job on an iconic intro. Very impressive.
You should be the one any Van Halen reunion. You are awesome dude!🤘
Nice job man! Sounds badass. 🤘
Amazing job brother! You nailed it
Freakin perfect Brother!
Sounds great!
Your right hand is so spot on. Really enhances the dynamics of the song.
Goosebumps!
Insane riffs, amazing cover
Amazing job!
Woow! Best I have seen it played!
Sounds wicked bro, great job as usual! Cheers, Rick 😎👍🎸🎼🎵🎶
PERFECT! Dude, I'm glad you went an extra bar on the intro or I would have just thought it was an iso track! Wow! NAILED IT!
Sounds great!!
This is so dang similar, great job! Even the fade in and tempo are spot on. If I didn't know this was your video on CZcams playing, I'd swear it was the actual track #1 from Fair Warning. Thanks for putting this out there!
And zero track, one of the best I've heard, and watch many guitar videos. Keep up the post because i'll be watching.
Nailed it! Well done!
One of the best Van Halen songs !!
Excellent man! 🎸
Greatest song ever written.fantastic cover.
Loved it!!!
Nailed it man! The Fair Warning LP was incredible through and through.
🔥🔥🔥bro your tone is spot on 🔥🔥🔥
You got Satch's version beat big time! Well Done!

@@caveydl Pete Thorn who? Never heard of him.
You've got it! Never Stop Rockin!
Nicely done!
Great timing on release of this video. Deraps is the man to carry the torch.
Great job bro! Flawless!
Is this in response to Joe Satriani having a problem with the intro on Howard Stern with Sammy Hagar?
I would say so!
Lol. Honestly Deraps has studied Van Halen for so long there is no doubt he would do eddie more justice in that band. Although it’s more Van Hagar stuff of course and Deraps is more partial to early VH. Joe satriani is a great player himself and i am not discrediting him, but they definitely went with just a big name opposed to someone who can really mimic Eddie
@@shreddievanhalen1 Alex Van Halen approached Satriani when after his brother's death for a tribute tour that fell apart prematurely. If Joe's good enough for Alex, that's good enough for me.
I think Deraps would be a better guitarist straight up sounding like Edward himself. I don't think that's what Sammy was going for though. I think he wants to put a slight spin on it.
Absolutely sensational! 👌🙏👍😃🎸
One in a million, great work!
I have to admit.....the first time I saw this cover many years ago, I thought it might be fake. Then I noticed the worn-out fretboard and I KNEW.....this guy is GOOD!!!! Keep up the artistry, we, your fans, appreciate your hard work!
Damn dude you nailed it! I saw your Dance the Night Away video 10 years ago I'm glad to see you're still at it and very polished!
This is the sound and tone needed on the Best of all worlds tour! Kick ass!
Best cover of MS I've ever seen.
Your right hand is a freaking machine man. Fun to watch.
Incredible! Best cover I’ve seen.
Fantastic Job Brother !!👍✌️
Excellent, best I've seen 👍
I remember hearing this for the 1st time, when it first came out, on the radio. I didn't know that VH had a new album, and the DJ (to his credit) didn't announce the band or the song, just said "here's something new" and played it. When the intro started, I thought "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?", blown away by the playing and instantly knowing that, whoever this band was, I needed to go right to Tower and buy this album. Then when Dave started singing I realized it was VH and realized that Eddie had changed everything yet again. It was amazing.
Jacob, outstanding my man! Flawless! I agree with these folks. You're the guy for the Sammy tour. We all love Joe but if folks want to hear Ed, you're the closest that I know of to recreate the timeless classics. I have a challenge for you. Try to replicate the Dirty Movies intro. Nobody has done this that I know of. If you could do this I think my head would explode haha!!!
Excellent! ❤
Dude,..!! That is really good..!!!
Thats spot on ! Amazing.
Great job!
SO WELL DONE!
SUPER AWESOME! I'm definitely a musical snob especially when it comes to people covering songs/riffs/solos/etc. Spot on dude!

Thats KILLER stellar guitar work!!!!!
Outstanding!
