For me, the Rollei 35s have been fantastic and essential cameras since the late 1960s and I currently own and use three of them. I use Sunny 16 or a compact Sekonic light meter.
Yes I agree. It’s a slower process at times but a great experience to shoot with.

Do you follow the focusing scale marks on the lens itself when focusing? I had shot 2 rolls of film on my rollei 35 s and I feel like the focus is inaccurate. Even focusing at infinity. Could there be a problem with the lens helicoid? Thanks! Great shots btw! Cheers!

Do you see the lens moving in and out when turning the focusing ring? Also place in bulb. See if the lens opens and closes as you move the Aperture!
@@danieldijo yes, lens moves and aperture seems to be accurately moving. And the weird part is that this was recently CLA'd. Do you have a lens filter in front to protect the lens? It is also possible that my filter is making the shots looks soft

@@danieldijoThe technician where I sent this camera before will re-calibrate the focus. I sent him the pictures and he is conviced that there is something wrong with the camera's focus. Thanks btw. I am about to sell this camera and glad I found your video and conviced myself to give it another try after re-calibrating the lens focus. Cheers :)

The best Rollei 35 are the 35 S and 35 SE with the Sonnar 40mm 2.8 Lens, if you are a collector then the original Rollei 35 made in Germany are the best to get.

His hack for the 35S meter is the best part of the video. Perhaps to clarify the point, all battery powered meter Rollei 35 models prior to the SE/TE (last) models use a long gone mercury battery putting out 1.35 volts. The accuracy of the meter is dependent on the voltage, so now you use a 1.3 volt Wein cell or have your camera modified if you want an accurate meter. The problem either way is that the meter has no "off" switch. The mercury batteries had a capacity to go in "always on" for a year or two and cost practically nothing to replace, so no big deal. Modern batteries will die in a few months in that situation. By adding the meter cell cover here, or putting the camera away in the dark, you largely "off" the meter. Note that the SE/TE were designed for a 5.6 volt mercury battery, also gone, but they use a different meter circuit which is not voltage dependent. The best substitute battery for the SE/TE is four 1.5 volt lithium hearing aid batteries, which fit the battery compartment fine. The meter circuit automatically adjusts the 6 volt package down to the voltage the meter requires to work accurately.

@@danieldijo Probably not going to happen. 75 years old. Too tired. Too lazy. Don't want to climb the technical learning curve to set up a video channel or a blog. Every once in a while I toy with the idea of a video channel focused on darkroom technique for both B&W and color, because most of the videos you see for those subjects are just shockingly bad, although there are a couple of excellent channels there.
Try to keep it positive online for those actually willing to try. 75 years old or not try to do what you enjoy. And allow others to do the same. We appreciate your input but often times see you putting down others opinions. They are opinions and effort. You have options to do all things you desire once you run out of excuses. Not a shot at you just reality. I coach and tell my players the same.

Shot Kodak Proimage a film I feel people sleep on. Made for wedding type look. Only 35mm though. Wish it was available 120mm.

That Rollei 35 zone focusing system is the way to go for street photographers, cool little cameras. Also, you get extra points for pronouncing Rollei correctly. Can you teach other You Tubers not to say Bokuh and Hosselblod? 😀 😀
Thanks it naturally came out Roll-eye on the 3rd take haha. Huge Rollei fan ever since running into it at a local camera store. It’s a street photographers high end memo pad. Haha tag them on here and I’ll make of video on how to pronounce camera brands correctly!
