- In this video, I review the Thor Vegas 24.1 RUV ... Recreational Utility Vehicle. This concise report could be quite informative for those interested in buying a small and agile Class A motorhome. This is a solid option for those seeking something affordable yet stylish.
I would like to thanks the folks at Motor Home Specialist in Alvarado, Texas for allowing me to make this video. Gracias! Here is a link to their website: www.mhsrv.com/

I opted for a Winnebago View (class C) because: it is compact and easy to drive, retains the airbags and doors up front, has a reasonably sized front windshield that I can afford to replace WHEN it breaks. The Mercedes chassis gets relatively good mileage and has good footroom and access up front. It also has reasonable ROCCC and storage. (I found many small class A units had lots of storage space but the chassis weight ratings were not large enough to actually be able to use that space.)
Two years and 17000 miles later I am very happy with my choice.
Riny van Someren ... Diesel milage is nothing to scoff at.
Thanks for the tip. LOVE the Vegas size and design but after the reviews I've seen,(even the shoddy work shown on this video) wouldn't touch one with a 10 ft.....
Did you pay over $100k?
Nice Video (2nd time viewing). We have a similar Winnebago model (Reyo or Via 25T) which we regret buying over this one. #1 Cost: for our 2012 one could buy a 2017 Vegas or Axis 24.1. We were scared off by Thor's not-so-good quality reputation, but the price difference is too great. #2: we have a Mercedes-Benz and the 10,000-mile services are too expensive - go Ford plus you can carry a lot more. #3: we have a Diesel that essentially requires #2 diesel which is becoming scarce and more expensive - go gas like in the Ford. The floorplan is great. In the older models Thor used plastic sinks and toilet but has upgraded that now. The Thor's roof is EPDM which is inferior to the Winnebago 10-year guarantee fiberglass roof, but again that does not offset the cost of the Winnebago (about $50k difference new!). Comparing the two - Go Thor.
Your advice has not fallen on deaf ears. Thanks.
Very nice review. As someone who is about to turn 47 and I still have a full head of long hair I would say don't cut it, it looks cool. Same with the beard. As for the Thor I don't know if anyone noticed that either someone spilled under the bathroom sink or it's already leaking. Keep up the great work.
Should I review the 2020 model?
Please.
yes please hopefully it will get carplay!
@@rotorhead8676 I went to the Thor Vegas dealership (Motor Home Specialist) May 1, 2019 and they didn't have the 2020 Vegas 24.1 in stock. I'll be back!
JMM Garza -- I too have come acrossed this unit in my search. First began with Class B, E-Trek, but, the cost for that unit is astronomical versus seeing savings over this unit.
My thoughts are?
Is there an emergency crank method if the slide ever decides it ain’t gonna slide?
Can the unit be used-say at a rest stop without using the slide?
I appreciate your soft relaxed voice. You set the example of a gracious traveler in time
@@garbinator09 Typically, there is an alternative method to move the slide. Since the slide only moves the sofa, there are no major issues with bed or kitchen access. I've been on the lookout for the 2020 model. Can't wait to take an inside peek.
Best video we have seen yet! Thanks for showing the details!
New models have a nice combo "induction and propane" cooktop. Thanks for visiting.
I look forward to checking out the 2019 model. Just a few upgrades that I noticed. There may be many more. The most notable, a combo propane-induction cooktop. That's an RV first. Apparently? I'll cruise by MHSRV and see if they have one in stock. One of the things I like about Motor Home Specialists is that I can typically go into an RV and not have the "free sauna experience." Last year, when I reviewed the Thor Thor Vegas 24,1. It was hooked up and oh so cool. That's appreciated during a hot summer day in Alvarado, Texas.
The 2019 version has a combo propane and induction cooktop. I like it.
Therapeutic voice, easy to listen to. Great video quality.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I haven’t been this soothed by a human voice since Bob Ross died. Listening to this made me a happy little camper lol.
My daughter loves Bob.
Very nice video and your voice is perfect for explaining things. Grazie!
I've recently discovered this model as well. Really like the layout. Also interested in the Coachmen Cross Trek 20XG. Two completely different RV's. Decisions, decisions...
The Cross Trek has some great features. Can't wait to see one.
Great video... on this page bc we are looking for a new motorhome but your voice OMG... you should make ASMR videos!
Thanks for the review. I’ve been looking for several years and this one is at the top of my list.
melshel ... I liked the features of the Vegas 24.1. It looks nice inside to me. Keeping the RV on budget, Thor has only sticker wrapped cabinet and drawer fronts, not solid wood. I did notice some gaps here and there. Issues not unique to this brand. If you purchase any brand RV (as you know), it's high maintenance. Hopefully not expensive maintenance though.
You have a very pleasant and soothing voice. Great review.
Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate it.
My wife and I test drove this for 30 minutes, I thought the thing was going to blow up it was so noisy you couldn't talk to one another and it was blown all over the highway. And before anyone states, I need to learn how to drive I have a class 1 license and drove over a million miles accident-free. Even the dealer was shocked at the noise the ford V10 made. We never purchased it, in the end, they wanted $84K CDN $$ for it.
Doesn't sound like a fun experience.
own one - love it. Lots of storage. If anyone buys one get the E450 chassis - not the E350.
Congrats!!!!
The wife and I looked at a Thor and it looked great. Loved the set up. We hope to buy a small Class A within a year. I am hearing some really bad reviews on Thor's quality control (or lack there of) and bad warranty and customer service. It is going to make it hard to keep Thor on the list of possibilities. Maybe as you refine your search you can do a "Top 3" video?
Tim Davis ... Great information. I will look closer next time around.
Thor makes Airstream too. I hear they are getting 'em (Airstreams) out the factory as fast as they can. Some recommend buying a one or two-year-old travel trailer or motorhome. Let the first owner deal with the repairs. Just say'n!
Mr. Garza you are a very talented
presenter. Very impressive work sir.
Thank you very much!
Excellent review..one of the models I was considering. Now if I can just get retired. BTW...Great 4K camera work.. Thank You!
W Waldo ... I could use a wider lens and a gimbal. Gotta love 4k.
This will be ideal for someone like me. Thanks for the HONEST vid. I will be clicking the link you provided.
saturday sailor ... This a very nice motorhome. With some care it should last a great while. I love the storage and design.
Great video.... This is the model I am saving up for🤠🤠
Just pull out your wallet and pay cash. You can do it!
This guy is the coolest sales man ever! Guaranteed a couple of doobies was smoke before the pitch! Peace!!!😄
I don't smoke.
@@JMMGarza Apologies then. i forget that people can be Naturally cool. I'm from up north we have a different Attitude.
@@artisjones7765 Most of my friends smoke. When I move back to California ...
If you go with the Ford engine synthetic oil is a must
Love colors and material for chairs
Yes, the fabrics and colors are quite nice. Quite contemporary.
Quality video! Very well done!!
Yes, I love it when people like my work. Thanks!
Very nice review, but may I suggest you do some longer shots as well? Everything is a close-up and I can’t get a good scope of the rig.
flatpat ... Ineed a wider lens for sure.
Nice review. I've been looking at Thor also, but the reviews are not very good. Let us know what you decide to go with. thanks
I like this Thor product. Very good use of space. Nice looking too. The cabinets are just okay though. You get alot for your buck. Mileage is apparently 9 to 12 mpg.
I love the interior design on most Thor RUV models but the build quality is not very good. I have read some horror stories.
Yes, I heard them too.
... actually ... the Vegas can tow 8,000 pounds. Very nice indeed! Not the 7k I said in the video. My mistake.
18:01 Not much left leg room while sat on the Throne. Shower cubicle preferred over curtain.
It's definitely not perfect. I sorta like shower curtains. Nothing painful to break.
The shades are cool
An upscale touch for sure.
I've heard the cabinetry and especially the drawers, are not up to par. Is this true?
The cabinets are not the best. That's where they save money. The particle board does a poor job of holding screws.
If slide-out does not have a hand crank to use in an emergency beware my freinds
I really like this model ,but like Class C's why don't they have a locking gas door??
I don't understand. Please explain if you have the time. Thanks.
@@JMMGarza Your car has a door to put gas in right, class C's and this one do not have a locking door
@@hebguy07 ...I didn't notice. I guess you have to buy a locking gas cap.
you know your job, Impressive!!!!!!!!
I just love my RVs. This RV is a nice one.
The quality looks shoddy. The drawers look cheap and they are held together with staples. How long would they last bouncing down the road?
🙏I love it.🙏Thank you! 🙏
You are welcome.
12:11 - what are those marks on the cabinet next to the stove?
On the thin cabinet exterior to the right of the stovetop are nails and a smattering of spackling paste!
Still available? Price? Location?
Not available. This is an old video. Check out the 2021 models ... possibly?
Please move the camera back further. You are filming it way too close and people cannot get a good open view.
Where is the engine battery? Do your research on these, battery issues for engine and house. You won't believe where they put the engine battery.
The engine battery should be near the engine. The house batteries are typically in the steps in a Class C. Am I wrong?
I still like my batteries in the basement on a slide out tray with better space for bigger sizes etc.
We're you ever a roadie for the doobie brothers?
You need wide angle shots.
I eventually in 2020 bought a budget wide angle lens adapter. It works okay!
Can a person lay down in the bed while driving? When the slides are in does it give enough room to walk through?
You can, but it's not safe to sleep in a moving motorhome.
that the biggest problem with all the U.S. camper builders they build great rolling TV stands but suck at building campers check out some of the Australia designs most are diesels have 300 watts or more of solar standard not a option and carry twice the water and waste for size to American campers
I'll do that. Watch more CZcams videos ... from Australia!
Thor? No thanks! My two experiences with their build quality left a very sour taste in my mouth. I’ll stick with Newmar!
Global Flyer777 ... Newmar .... Very nice!!
Greg H Excellent choice! You can’t go wrong with an Airstream!
@Global:
I agree...these small As look VERY nice...but Thor's poor reputation for quality materials, workmanship and customer service/care AFTER the sale = move on to find something else!
IMO, Thor makes NOTHING worth buying...but people still do, which keeps the crap-makers in business (and they thank you for it and customers' ignorance -- and/or being bottom-line (cheapskate) shoppers, which are MOST buyers).
Smarter/more knowledgeable shoppers, however, will be going with the better-quality brands...
-- BR
Love the design...but reviews on build quality are horrific...this video even proves that even with new management (as I read somewhere) and for 2018, the number of imperfections, smudges, scratches, all-around shoddy looking finishing hasn't improved. Too bad...
Global Flyer777 haha. Just a little difference in price between Newmar and Thor. Unfortunately not all of us can afford a Newmar.
WARNING DO NOT BUY VERY LOW QUALITY
there is something in your mouth
eating HOTDOG. huh....
Don't be jealous. Nice picture Caspar.
EVERYTHING BREAK DO NOT BUY
Cheap. BTW nice leak under the bathroom sink.
M.R. Lomax ... Leak?
Yes you can clearly see the antifreeze on the floor of the cabinet under the sink.
Thanks for the heads up. I did notice some leakage. Easily fixed?
I found Albus Dumbledore.
A Harry Potter reference.
