    "The Century Project: 100 Years of American Music From Behind The Drums".
    "The Century Project" takes you on a thrilling journey through 100 years of music history, tracing the story of the drum set from its inception at the end of the Civil War (1865) to the dawn of the British Invasion (1965). Throughout the presentation, Daniel introduces and demonstrates a variety of classic styles and techniques, including double drumming, ragtime, New Orleans jazz, Chicago jazz, classic swing, bebop, rhythm and blues, rockabilly and early rock'n'roll.
    To bring these musical eras to life, The Century Project incorporates eleven stunning vintage drum sets, hundreds of rare product and vintage catalog shots, and a dozen high energy performances from an all-star band featuring members of Royal Crown Revue, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, the Conan O'Brien house band, and Bette Midler's "Kiss My Brass" Revue.
    Filmed and recorded in stunning high-definition, The Century Project reveals a side of the drums never before seen, and endeavors to show musicians here in the 21st Century just how much they actually have in common with the past. The bottom line - learning more about the classic styles demonstrated in The Century Project will make you a stronger and more competitive drummer, regardless of what style of music you play.

Gave them to my nephew when I was 59. Now at age 69 I jokingly told my wife I wanna put the band back together. So, she went out and bought me a new set of gretsch drums for my birthday. The drums have always been part of jazz, because the beat and sound of the drums is so integral to the cultural history of where jazz music originated and evolved from. The drum kit has always held a prominent role in the rhythm section of jazz bands, providing rhythmic drive as well as tonal colors.

      I agree this was amazing. If you are in for catch solos. Search for Benny greb. If you haven’t heard his solos. They are easy to listen to and full of swing but underneath they are crazy complex.

      metz ergenstein Metal drummers usually play simple stuff (mainly singles) extremely fast around the kit, making it look complicated, but in the end is just that, singles played fast. Jazz drummers, on the other hand, play countless patterns and combinations, and they can also go really fast. Not that metal drumming isn't challenging, but it's more on a physical level. Jazz drumming is challenging on a physical and mental way.

    • @robertoricci3393
      @robertoricci3393 Před 7 lety +60

      Metal is not only a physical exercise. Metal is a very wide genre. Tomas Haake, Mike Mangini, Bobby Jarzombek, Matt Gartska, Aquiles Priester just to name few names. Anyway latin drummers are seriously the most impressive from a technical standpoint, even more than jazz drummers.

    • @nightness1208

      Some heavy metal drummers play jazz it's that they don't play it in songs because it doesn't suit the tempo, genre or song their playing
      When they do their solos they do doubles, triplets and 16th beats as well they try to keep it to the genre of music their playing
