Eastern Ky here, with a MX5400. I’ve had mine on some real steep spots bush hogging, and while working in the woods. Been a few times I thought it was gonna tip, but even more times I felt it was gonna slide. I reckon I’ve been pretty lucky so far. All I can say is be careful! These things are super light, and top heavy too if you have a cab.
From the age of 17-19 I had more hours on a tractor than I did a car/truck cause I was suspended 😂😂 nothing like driving a tractor through the woods building trails..Especially a new Bota or Deere they are both awesome machines
Ben gets a lot of dirtwork done with his Kubota! If he got his hands on a Cat D-8 he'd be a force of nature!.LOL. Love to watch your roadbuilding videos. Thanks
Great video I am currently torn whether to buy that Kubota or a mini track loader. Will be doing mostly dirt and stone moving in the woods with steep hills. Everyone says the Kubota will tip over in those hills even with the weights. But it does not seem to bother you !! You definitely have that machine under control

We work on ground you can't walk on with svl 75-2, m9540 and m108x and we go straight down lots of places without any problems but you have to have weights , width, pay attention and go slow

Close to James River in Howards villa / Scottsville area not far from Waltons mountain if you remember the show - I use to do little farming guess you could say I'm kinda hobby farming g now that I'm in my 60's still cut bunch wood & clearing so lots nowadays - The way it's going up here I'm might gonna head to West Virginia or maybe Tennessee for retirement find me little old farm place if the World don't come to an end before I can do it- -I been running old Fords for years last one I have left is '94 Ford 4630 had 4000 before & my family had several models over years- About 15yr ago bought little B2710 Kubota w/ backhoe it's been Great little tractor - I call it the " Mighty Might" built roads w/ it like you done w/ Big Orange K you got there but just have to pick at it bit at a time- But it's also got approaching 1000hrs hard use - Can't complain - Ole Blue been Cracker Jack Good tractor & still is I'm just thinking about One more New or pretty new model that ll finish my tractor time up but who knows I might be 95yr & getting another one - Well nice Jawin w/ you be safe as I put tractor in places like you & most people don't know as much as we love them they'll kill you Licty Split - Take Care

Is this in West Virginia? We have 50 acres and need to access our ridge line. Elevation from the house to the ridge line is about 500 feet give or take. The first 90 up feet from the house is a sloped solid rock face, covered in trees and soil. If you dig down past the soil it is solid rock. Any thoughts on making a bench cut in this part of the trail? Your videos definitely help, and I know its way more steep than it looks!! Any advice would be much appreciated. If we can get past this first part, the rest of the mountain is soft and the ground can be worked but this solid rock slab seems to make up the base of the whole mountain.
This is in Southwest Virginia. It’s hard to give advice on your questions without seeing the area. I always study the lay of the land hood before starting these road projects, then it’s also subject to change. I hope you can get a road in! Thanks

I'm certainly not the safety police, but I will advise you to wear your seat belt when operating your tractor, especially in the situation you're in there. It took me a little while to get in the habit, but it's second nature now just like in my truck. You are doing a good job making that road in difficult conditions.
Do you have any issues when pushing the top soil off to the side in regard to "stabilization"? I know you have to get the dirt out of your way AND that you need some means of maintaining "level", but I would be worried about the "loose content" of that soil wanting to slough off. I know clay would be best, and I also know that you are far smarter than I about this sort of thing, which is why I ask! Thank you!!!
This had very little top soil, it was mostly clay and shale rock. It was best to do this during the winter with the clay being damp because it held in place better then dry powdery dirt would on this slope. Main thing is go slow and pay attention to how everything is reacting. Thanks for watching!

It is not near as steep as what you were dealing with and I now feel a bit more confident on how to tackle this job. My biggest issue now is all of the RAIN we have been getting. Just finished watching your video on "ripping" your hillside pasture to remove some of the "wetness". How did that work out for you?
Hey Ben! I know it's the wrong time of year to look for it, but do you have any ginseng in your neck of the woods? I can remember hearing my folks in Kentucky talk about "diggin' sang". I've been shown patches that I would've walked right over had the not pointed it out. We used to ride jeeps and 4wheelers on roads like the one you're cutting. Lots of old mine roads and family land. Be good.
When you are building a road to get to the top, I guess it would be hard to start at the top. Those mountains are hard to climb without a road to get there.
You really have to wonder about the one moron that gave this a thumb down. You are making due with what you have to work with - which is a fine machine. I am surprised you didn't put a tooth bar on your bucket; though it did a great job without it. I like your videos my young friend 👍🏻
There’s always that one person who isn’t happy that thinks a thumbs down makes them feel better. Haha. Thanks for the nice comment. I did put a tooth bar on during the last section of this road and it helped. There is a 3 part series of this job.

They are built to work so why not work them. I hope your not abusing your key board by working it to hard criticizing people on CZcams.
Apparently your operating skills are lacking because I’ve found them to be very useful. Moved thousands of tons of dirt, cleared brush, loaded logs and hay, and many varieties of other tasks. I think 95% of people would disagree with your statement.
@@gerrycoleman7290 I don’t think buying another machine or renting one, nor hiring the job done with a dozer would have been more cost efficient. The task was accomplished with what I had and only cost me some time, fuel, and a few hours of wear on the tractor.

Kinda what I'm doing. Using a B2650 to cut a trail on a slope against a barbed-wire fence. First time through - just taking my time.

Ron Chaney we do have it. I’ve never got out and dug any but at one time it was bringing good money. Not sure what it’s worth right now.
