    If CZcams ever establishes a CZcams Hall of Fame, this video should be in it.
    It is the golden standard of how to produce and edit a vehicle repair video.
    This 11-minute video saved me $1000 yesterday.

  • @johnckirkwood

    Dude. Who are you? A professional mechanic? A professional videographer? Your work is amazing. The video editing, wow, every step clearly shown with a caption/label and video chapter and the whole thing is LESS THAN 11 MINUTES (about 7 for the tear-down)! I made my 9 year old son help me (mostly to pause and rewind your video with his cleanish hands) and we knocked this out. This job would have been crazy hard for someone just trying to figure it out as they went. The two bolts that were mostly by feel, my son was like, "how did he even get this on camera?"

    I owe you at least a comment. You did a fantastic job showing everything that I needed to know, and the labels were extremely helpful as well. A $900 job at the shop turned into a $200 weekend project, and I get to keep the wobble sockets and the radiator bleeder funnel!

We are now on our way to the river, instead of working on the car all day. Thank you for your time and effort in making this!!

    I must say thank you so very much. A shop quoted ~$700 for labor on this and that it was a ~4 hour job. I thought a 4 hour job for the shop with all tools and experience at their disposal would mean a weekend job for me with several bloody knuckles and additional damage to other parts while changing the alternator. Your video restored my confidence in changing it. Totally successful. A perfect video. Thank you!

  • @361tx

    I know this is an older video, but this video is 100% spot on and perfect no fluff video. Much appreciated. Only thing I'd add is don't tighten the two 14mm alternator bolts all the way on the front of alternator until you get the hidden 12mm in and tightened. just makes it a bit easier. Other than that everything is perfect.

    This is so far the best video for Sienna alternator replacement - very clear step-by-step directions and high quality video. I have a 2011 Sienna that will have the 2nd alternator replacement soon. Lot of remanufactured alternators are not Denso and will not last long. Keep the original alternator and have local shop to recondition it if possible.

  • @canosouped
    @canosouped Před rokem +13

    Tried valiantly to take the alternator out without removing the fans but failed. Definitely wasn’t that difficult to pull the upper rad hose and the fan assembly. Then the work is much easier. Got away with not removing the lower rad hose tho, keeping most of the coolant in - if that matters to anyone.
    Great video thanks for good lighting and descriptions along the way. Perfect help.

    • @ix0s
      @ix0s Před rokem +2

      I did the same. There's plenty of room to work with the lower coolant hose in place. I very much did not want to have to bleed the system extensively, and thankfully, did not have to!

    this was a big help. my son and I followed step-by-step and successfully replace the alternator. we also left the 2nd coolant hose connected. it made the job more difficult, but kept everything cleaner overall. the only problem is, after finishing the job, the van is no longer starting. it's cranking over, but not starting. any thoughts/ideas? we triple checked every electrical connector etc. I was driving the van (on just the battery) before replacing the alternator. so something happened during or after the install. can't put my finger on it. btw, the battery is fine.
    UPDATE: we figured out why the van wouldn't start after installing the new alternator. our friend, an experienced Toyota mechanic diagnosed the problem immediately. apparently while removing the old alternator, we jostled the wire too much the leads to the crankshaft sensor down behind the air conditioner compressor. this is the wire connected to the bracket at 7:00 in the video. it's best to remove the bracket from the alternator as he suggests in the video, and then disconnect the wire. our problem was the wire got strained and was loosed from the housing that connects to the sensor, and we lost the connection. this caused the engine to turn over, but not start. so we had to remove the alternator again, loosen the air conditioner compressor so we get access to the crankshaft sensor housing. we crimped the wire back in, and reinstalled everything. the van is running great! save yourself a lot of trouble and be very careful with the crankshaft sensor wire.

      This saved me! Decided to change the alternator on the farm on a long weekend… video was perfect for laying out the plans and tools. Got the new one installed with no problems. Went to start it to top up the coolant…. And it just cranked and cranked. No start. So thankful for the comments, read through and found the crank sensor comment. Went out and dropped the ac compressor and sure enough one wire had pulled out of the connector. Recrimped it and reassembled everything and it fired right up. Thanks again! Whew

    After returning core, did this in 4 hours for $300. Happened to be a surprise while I was out of town - could've ordered from RockAuto to cut cost to $200. Great video!
    One tip I found when reinstalling the alternator, don't tighten everything down at first. Doing the bracketed (lower right) side first helped get it seated correctly.
