    Phenomenal cinematography and editing in this one! Making damascus steel has been boring to watch for quite awhile, but this one is like a movie. I really appreciate that the songs used in this one sound like they came from the new Dune and the level of detail in editing to the chosen soundtrack. Kudos, Jamie!

    I did not realize how much I missed these videos until now. I love seeing you embark on knife or sword making projects Alec! I would love to see more content like this. Maybe it would be an idea to make more knives and swords inspired from movies and series? I’m thinking almost a “Binging with Babish” style of series. You have gone the route of historical blades, maybe fiction inspired blades next?

    Ok ok ok ok ok .....I am a machinist and at 7:32 when you discovered how to control the twist rate using air I lost my mind in the best way possible! Alec this is good stuff! I love the creative use of a lathe as I also primarily run lathes. Oh and I live in Montana just for some added giggle factor.

    • @Yossus
      @Yossus Před rokem

      Can you offer an explanation of how it works? My intuition would be that the air would cool the piece down, and so it would twist less where blown, not more. Obviously it’s the opposite. But why?

    A little tip for getting the alignment correct on your twisting jig would be to do the welding on the morse taper end in situ. Put the square tube in the chuck, put the taper in the stock, nudge the taper onto the end of the tube and then weld, remove tube from chuck and cut to length = perfect alignment and less distortion when twisting the hot stock

    Can’t wait to see which way you stretch it! At first I was thinking you have to stretch the twists the entire length of the blade for the cool factor. But then I got to thinking about how much more awesome it would look to see the twists stretched the other way to create almost a mosaic blade. So after thinking of both I vote for mosaic, stretching the twists on the twisted axis and make a mosaic blade Alec, the spice demands it!

It would take a lot of material, but might be cool to work with patterned steel on a larger scale than a sword/knife. Plus you'd probably be the only person able to say you have a Damascus truck.
