- Here is my experience on a day trip to Hogenakkal waterfalls..
We started early and reached around 10 AM, it would be even better to reach by 9 AM to beat the heat.
There are two routes, we tried both the routes.
Route 1:
Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Hogenakkal
Distance: 180 Kms
Toll Charge: Rs. 115 (excluding Electronic City flyover/ NICE road charge)
Predominantly wide NH roads, hardly any broken road, less kilometre of ghat section, even ghat roads were wide enough.
Route 2:
Bangalore - Attibele - Denkanikottai - Hogenakkal
Distance: 125 kms
Toll charges: Rs. 0 (excluding Electronic City flyover/ NICE road charge)
70% good roads, there were broken roads and patches after Attibele turn, more kms of ghat section, narrow forest and ghat section road, however a more scenic route as we drive through the forest.
I prefer route 1 over route 2 because of more NH road and also in summer forest stretch is dry so you can take route 1.
Hogenakkal Falls Charges:
1. Forest entry: Rs. 50
2. Main Car parking: Rs. 70 (800 metres to the falls entry)
3. Hotel Tamilnadu car parking: additional Rs. 50 (roughly 400 m to the falls entry)
4. Rs. 10 for viewing the falls from hanging bridge
5. Free public falls bathing area is also available (but crowded on weekends)
6. Massage service was also available if you are interested (not sure of the price)
7. Coracle ride: Rs. 750 (only cash is accepted and only TN side falls is covered)
If you want to go till Karnataka side waterfalls and have extended coracle ride experience then extra charge of Rs. 1000 we negotiated with our boatsman. Approximately around Rs. 1000 is a good bargain. It was truly a fun experience, and the water force was pretty good for summer. They take you very near to the waterfalls, so keep your wallet, keys and phone in a ziplock cover or some protective bag… It was around 3 hours of coracle ride. Luckily it wasn’t that hot the day we went, carry cap, sun glasses and water with you… They will take you to a sand dune kind of place where you can enjoy fish food and spend some time on the water. Our boatsman mentioned till 5:30 PM in the summer they issue ticket for coracle ride.

There is no advance booking required for coracle ride… there is a counter at the entrance for booking..
July should be okay, just check weather forecast two or three days before you are planning to visit..
Better to visit before monsoon starts to enjoy coracle ride..

Yes you should be able to do coracle ride in June and enjoy the waterfalls..
Once monsoon starts if the water level is too much then they might restrict coracle ride..

They are charging 750-1000 per person or for a coracle which can accomodate 3-4 people.

Hi Anupam, it is Rs. 750 per coracle. 4 adults are allowed per coracle.. With this official ticket they only take you till Tamilnadu side falls for about an hour..
If you want an extended ride plus go till karnataka side waterfalls then extra Rs. 1000 per coracle we bargained with our boatsman as a tip for a full 3 hour ride experience..

There is “Hotel TamilNadu” right next to the falls… I saw the place from outside but I have not stayed there..
We rather went to Denkanikottai and stayed at a luxury wooden cottage farm house.. It was 8k for a couple.. I have done a review video about the same.. If you are looking for some special occasion celebration you can check it out..

Is it good time to visit in June month?
Best time is between October to March beginning if you want to see the falls in full glory.. June month couple of falls might have dried up…
You will still have coracle ride, you can see few falls, natural rock formation, body massage and enjoy some sea food over there..
What is the price for mens body massage
I don’t know the price for the massage… at the ticket counter enquire the price range and then you can probably bargain..
