I was out during my surgery and when the block wore off, I was in severe pain for three to four days. A vinyl sling is really helpful to wear in shower. Never did any ice. Had to sleep in the corner of a sectional for months. Take the meds before the pain block wears off.

This is one of the best advice videos regarding the plan for rotator cuff repair. I can validate this as I am a Certified Rehab RM. Plus, I have had several rotator cuff repairs. The ice cool shoulder machine will save yourself a lot of pain. Yes, pain meds help; However, the ice on your surgical repair will turbocharge the pain relief. ( sorry for the poor analogy re- turbocharge. Bregs Polar cubes have worked well for me. Cost without insurance is approximately 200-250 dollars. Take your time with rehab so you don't re-tear the surgery. On one repair I pushed too hard and had to another revision. Good luck all.

@@scottweatherman3266 I'm in the process of, having surgery on my right shoulder, and I'm very apprehensive about it!!!! I wish I could afford an ice machine, but I can't. So I will have to rely on a hospital issued ice pack. How soon should I take, a pain pill before my feeling comes back in my arm???? I'm afraid of the pain, that is yet to come.

We can't get those ice machines in Australia. Will continual ice packs work ?

I guess I'm the most recent one in the comment section to have the surgery. It ended up just being a partial test so they cleaned up a lot of the fraying &removed part of the clavical where a bone spur had grown. Ouch! I'm now 3.5 weeks post-op. I'd definitely invest in getting the ice machine & we splurged on a new sofa recliner. Wow! It's worth every penny for both me and my spouse. I come out in the living room sometimes (like now) when i can't sleep

I had my first rotator cuff surgery about 15 years ago and said no way ever again. Wrong. I canceled because of the COVID and hoped I could put it off until 2021. Not happening. Everyone, you probably talk to that has had this surgery remembers the pain. I do. The pain I have now is worse every day. It's hard to drive, put dishes away, reach for things, pick up things, and even put a seat belt on. I would rather go through a month or more of pain than to live with this pain. Age-wise I'm a female over 70. I also got diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2019 and bone density loss. Yippee. The medication they put me on almost did me in and I had to figure it out myself what caused all the symptoms. Unfortunately, I have between 50-75 % chance of success. They are also going to try to clean up some arthritis in my shoulder. My surgery is 8-18-2020. I'm praying for a successful surgery. Both times they said to get a recliner for sleeping and it does help. You will spend most of your days in the recliner.

I am having surgery next month I think this is very useful information in the video. I know the hospital takes my insurance and never occurred to me to check if the anesthesiologist does. I will make that call first thing tomorrow. Thanks for your video.

My surgery is set for Feb 2. I am a bit anxious but This pain is God awful. I have a 95% tear... My surgeon explained three things she has to do. And 1 extra if there is any complication.... She said it is rare but she wanted to let me know about it before hand. I just want this over. I fell on December 29th and I am in so much pain.

tip number 11. If you have sleep apnea remember you will have to sleep on your back not your side after surgery. This often makes sleep apnea worse. Let your sleep specialist know. I ended up having to get a new five thousand dollar machine because they found out I had CSA and CSB after surgery. Going into surgery I was on cpap for OSA. Now using ASV.

Instead of underwear, I’d recommend diapers just before surgery. It’s embarrassing to discover you soiled yourself when you were out of it.
A note : when they were putting in the general anesthetic, I went totally out, and didn’t experience anything with the nerve block. The man was there, all ready to insert the needle into my neck. I was totally unaware of any of it! I awoke and the surgery had been done!

Make sure you tell your Ortho you have sleep apnea. Strong Opioids can drop your oxygen levels.
