Going on 3 years now starting my Toy store re-selling business. Started buying random bags of toys at thrift stores, now I'm buying collections every week. Hope to scale to point that I can open a physical store (that's the dream) but one day at a time and keep the ducks in line.
Agree with you. One caveat is that if people are trying to make reselling their primary income that it’s very cash intensive. And if you’re using sites like eBay you need to consistently be listing in order to keep the algorithm happy. I’d always recommend people slowly build up or just use it for secondary income
Don’t let videos like this turn you off starting your own business marketing/business and industry experience comes with TIME the one thing you need is money start small and work your way up no matter what type of business you wanna own there are gonna be ups and downs and it’s going to be hard work yes but you know what’s also hard work digging holes for 65 hours a week for minimum wage so idk why they always try to turn regular people off opening there own business by saying “oh it’s such hard work” you wanna open a business get some money start small and work hard that’s it all the other stuff comes with time and experience that simple I see these type of ppl in the TCG,video game, toy and collectibles business always trying to steer people of and I think it’s purely because they don’t wanna flood the industry with new store owners and drive down there own sales don’t listen to them do what your heart tells you too
I have purchased multiple full collections from people and resold, it has worked very well for me, but you are correct about labor intensive. I have shipped hundreds of packages and worked out every single deal myself, so at times I do nothing but respond to people online, get shipping estimates, package, and go to UPS/USPS. Extremely busy each time I buy a collection.
Big Nerdy I give you props for this. I helped start and still work at a comic and game store. The manager and I have both sat with people and done this. We didn't do it to crush dreams, but people don't think about all the things they need to start something and also all the things they need that they can't make money from. The shelves, supplies, space, functional computer of some kind that can run what you need to keep track sales and software for inventory and book keeping. Sales taxes, website building and management, all of that. Telling people how hard it is to start and build the hobby they love into a business is never cruel but a true mercy because it can destroy families from loss of money and stress. I happy you found this success.
Is re-run Tuesdays still a thing? Cause no black series figures have re-released and you've been suspiciously quiet. I don't mean to be rude but you kind of got me and lots of other collectors hopes up so if you could provide a comment on this issue it would be much appreciated.
Social media tie in helps out alot. Seeing the success Nerdzoic and somebody like Retro Rick have is pretty cool. Alot of work and personality will go a long way.
This video was good I feel like I learned something I’m just a customer but was always curious about the business as I’ve seen stores constantly open and close.
High rent in Cali , most just live forever in Scalper town Frank and Sons. Comic book stores can’t even survive. Entertainment Earth is based in SoCal, was based in North Hollywood but moved to Simi Valley for cheaper rent . Whatever happened to your Black Series restock ? Lying makes you bald , uh oh too late 😂
If I had the capital in the 80's or even 90's I totally would have thrown it all in for an arcade or toystore, now past the 2000s the market just imploded with so much volatility I'd never dream of starting a business with all the rules now and capital required. If I had started an arcade that would have been the best with longevity to turn into a barcade, it at least would have weathered the storm some. There use to be so many mom-and-pop toy stores around my neighborhood in the 80s, then poof, all gone by 1990, even the large chains not named TRU or KB.
I know you covered transformers a bit in your transformers value video, but I'm always curious about selling transformers vs other action figure. I know you don't sell Masterpiece or 3rd party and I'm curious how you view it or if you do.
Wow, only 30% are actually subscribers....but ya know I have subs to channels that get lost in other channels I watch consistently. Out of like a hundred channels, there's really only around 10 or so that gets recommended to me when I open up the YT app....🤷♂️
How much $ is needed for initial investment, like 10K? After the initial investment, how much $ is needed for continuous operations? Do you have any affiliates, investors, or satellite e stores?
I’d love to know how much product is necessary to buy from a toy distributor. I once contacted Gemni wanting to sell their products, they told me that they require at least $400,000 in product ordered! And they are just a company that makes Halloween animatronics etc to sell to stores.
Have you ever thought or tried to get into the collectibles industry? Let’s hear about it!
Nope too hard thanks for steering me clear Matt.

You're probably better off working out of your garage and making the transactions through the internet. Leasing a space can get very expensive.
Spot on! Especially the part about starting with ZERO following! Learned that one the hard way! Added a couple of years to the process.

Hi, may i know where do you buy full collections? I mean where do u find those collectors?
Rainy Monday morning here in PA. A new Nerdzoic video is always the best way to start off my week!

You’re the best big nerdy! Always thankful for your willingness to share your experiences.
Very helpful advice. I appreciate your video, Matt. Thanks!
Your store is my go to for all my pre orders. Heck I think I have near 20 figures on pre order now. Keep up the good work Big Nerdy

Big Nerdy don’t want any competition 😂 smart.
I'm honestly impressed that you've managed to be successful selling new figures. You're a terrific alternative to the lousy big box options out there
Thank you for making this
Suscribed lol I honestly thought i was already suscribed until you said that last part then i checked.
Really great advice here, not just for the toy business, but for any business.
In your opinion what would be the best place to sell loose marvel legends? Ebay? Mercari? Facebook marketplace? Etc.
What about stores that actually sell toys for children? I wish my kids had stores like toys r us and KB like I did.

Gotdamn I appreciate this so so much, it's almost like you read my subconscious. Biggups to you Big Nerdy!
Thanks love this video

Good one, BN!

I think i never saw a youtuber with any business that recommended to do what they do;) Sounds like clearly staying away from this kind of things
Starting a business in a recession on the verge of hyperinflation is dangerous….be warned
Are you accepting interns? Jk lol Great advice Big Nerdy!
I wouldn't recommend, worst experience with this seller.
Outstanding and Informative Video. Thank You, much Appreciated 🫡🫡🫡
