This one-of-a-kind museum, located on Mozart Square in Salzburg, Austria, houses the personal collection of one Christmas-loving Austrian woman, named Ursula Kloiber, who was savvy enough to safely keep all her grandmother’s Christmas decorations. Ursula went on to collect dozens more Austrian and German Christmas decorations and displays over 40 years’ time. This collection spans about 100 years, from 1840 through 1940, and was later donated to create the magical Salzburger Weihnachtsmuseum. Many of these items never left Austria or Germany, although a few pieces were found in various attics and hideaways in America.

There are eleven sections to the museum, and you’ll see all manner of Christkindl magic here, from beautifully preserved Advent Calendars (including one that looks like the Seven Dwarves, but actually refers to the mining industry of the region); a stunning chandelier; darling Christmas cards and special thank you cards for children to send to their parents (shocking concept, I know); and darling Nativity Scenes and little snowy village scenes, with incredible care spent on the details. There’s also a special section on an especially creepy St. Nick sidekick named Krampus (proceed with caution :-)).
