Back in 2006-ish, I would come from school and watch episode of Man vs Wild, it was my favorite program on Discovery channel. Here in Russia this program called "Выжить любой ценой" (literally "Survive at any cost").
I just adored how natural everything looked, and imagined myself being in those harsh, risky environments getting through with Bear Grylls. Even through dub voiceover I could feel this guy is legit, idk I just liked it.
I hope that my Russian origin is not going to offend you, just wanted to share my childhood story.

Personally, something I got out of this interview was the way Steve worked to bring Bear out of his shell. It shows how good he is as an interviewer, willing to risk discomfort and dig for the gems below the surface. He was both brave and gentle as a host. But it speaks to something honourable in Bear too, he recognises the baggage people bring to the conversation of faith. They spent a good chunk of time talking about just that: what holds Bear back from talking about his faith.

Wow BG is Amazing so articulate and yet balanced-!!!
I always think Do not let what is out of your control interfere with what you can control. Use your frustrations today to motivate you rather than annoy you. You are in control of the way you look at things. Truth be told, there is an opportunity in almost every difficult situation to understand yourself more deeply, and also to improve your life.
When life’s struggles knock you into a pit so deep you can’t see anything but darkness, don’t waste valuable energy trying to dig your way out. Because if you hastily dig in the dark, you’re likely to head in the wrong direction and only dig the pit deeper. Instead, use what energy you have to reach out and pull something good in with you. For goodness is bright; its radiance will show you which way is up, and illuminate the correct path that will take you there.
When you can no longer think of a reason to continue, you must think of a reason to start over. There’s a big difference between giving up and starting over in the right direction. And there are three little words that can release you from your past regrets and guide you forward to a positive new beginning. These words are: From now on...
Again, you are NOT in control of everything, but you ARE in control of the way you respond to life. And in your present response is your power.!!
Truth be told, as time passes life educates and humbles us. We gradually realize how much nonsense we have wasted our energy and resources on.!!
The cocksure are stupid but the intelligent are full of doubt and knowledge makes people humble,Arrogance makes people Ignorant
      Peace🕊

I find his mindset fascinating and utterly, utterly inspirational
I was the popular kid at school. But it masked what was a highly toxic upbringing. Surrounded by violence, mental health issues and relative poverty.
I’ve done “well” from an outsiders point of view, in life, but I feel like I’m having to be resilient against myself most of the time, if that makes sense. My own demons and my own trauma is constantly trying to trip me up (case in point being that I’m posting this at half three in the morning, despite a full day of meetings tomorrow) and, whilst perhaps coming from a slightly different place, that “keep getting up and going again” message resonates with me so much.

    @blzz42 Před rokem +9

I grew up as a kid watching Bear Grylls on TV and it is interesting to see a new side of him. He was an inspirational person that helped rekindle that spark for adventure within me. At a time when I was especially inwardly drawn as an adolescent, He helped show me just how vast the world actually was. We often get so lost in our day to day lives and the meaningless triviality of it all. Our vision becomes narrow and limited so to speak. Life loses its shimmer and it becomes grey and dull. When this happens it becomes necessary to take a step outside ourselves to see the opportunity and potential that exists all around us. The world is full of wonder, beauty, and intrigue… and it’s hard to see that sometimes because life is also full of hardships, pain, and suffering and it demands our pound of flesh as sacrifice. But if you face that with perseverance and faith, your eyes eventually open to see it’s beauty and wonder. Man against Nature reveals an important primal truth: life is an uphill struggle, a Sisyphus trial of stumbling uphill, of falling and getting back up again. And this isn’t a solitary journey. We forge our paths together, as friends, family, and community… there is a heroic spirit buried within each individual, and to live on the edge is to draw that spirit forth within yourself. Because every man who does eventually builds that city on the hill, and it becomes a beacon onto the world for new hope.. So bear your burdens gracefully, be humble, stumble up hills and persevere through the valleys.

While growing up and watching Bear Grylls, I got the sense that he was a great guy. I love listening to Bear's wisdom. Now seeing this, it makes me realize that I really wanted to have these types of real conversations with my dad, who has been emotionally distant. It makes me happy to see good dad figures, and Bear's been one for me. Excellent interview, amazing work. Thank you, all involved, for striving to be kind and to do your best.

Like most I've watched a ton of podcast episodes of this style... But hands down - this was the most impactful, nourishing and genuinely human interaction I've ever watched. One, you are a fantastic invterviewer - not only do you lead the conversation well, but you clearly care about the engagement you're having with your guest. Two, Bear carries a level of wisdom and authenticity rare today and much needed to revitalize a confused generation. Listening to him reminds me of how in civilizations past people would flock to listen to Rabbis and Sages to glean insight on how to live life well. What a privilege it is that we could all enjoy this genuine interaction between two people - both remarkable, yet both normal guys trying to "do your best".

I have spent 40 years following my dream and done ‘things’ differently.
I want to thank you both for the most inspirational interview in years/ever.
Following the close of our family business during Covid I am about to follow my ultimate dream and inspire others to follow their dreams.
I will publish my book “52 Mistakes I have Made in. Business; so you don’t have to”.
I am soon to launch my CZcams Channel ‘ Graham ‘positivity’ Brooks.
Your open and honest comments as just added fuel to the fire, which still burns after 40 years of set backs.
    Thanks again Gra xx

Loved my take away from this interview with Bear Grills - ‘Never Give Up’
and love the ‘vulnerability creates bonds and strength’ without that struggle I find we actually find our genuine selves - be it the best, or not our best self, shows us to ourselves - if we have the courage to look 👀 at ourself. Thank You 🙏🏻 Bear to be humble and don’t believe the press releases… thank You for showing your heart ♥️

Love this quote “to be successful in anything you do requires heart and spirit. It’s not necessarily a god given trait but rather a muscle that you build through practice, and repetition. IT’s built by going through the doors of failure and getting back up to try again and again.”

What a thoroughly inspirational conversation and Bear epitimizes the word 'Inspire'... I have a scroll that hangs on my wall at home that I picked up in Malaysia many years ago, it's written by His Holiness the X1Vth Dalai Lama and it goes "Never Give Up, no matter what is going on, Never give up. Develop the heart, too much energy in your country is spent developing the mind instead of the heart. Be compassionate, not just to your friends but to everyone, be compassionate. Work for Peace in your heart and in the world, Work for Peace. And I say it again... Never give up, No matter what is happening, No matter what is going on around you... NEVER GIVE UP!" This mantra, if you like, is something I read almost every day and has kept my spirits up when times get tough, which they invaribly do. Thank you for sharing Bear, I love your outlook on life.

I believe he’s so likeable because he’s in some respects very relatable. His achievements do exceed what most viewers can look reach, but as an individual he’s very relatable. He does embody the part of us that want to get out there and be a part of the world. He’s is also very candid without the arrogance that absorbs people who are in the public domain. Great podcast.
