- I've played Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door more times than I could count on one hand. So when it was announced that we were getting a glorious HD remake of one of my all time favorite games, I was unbelievably stoked!
Now that it's out, I'm still having to pinch myself...having this remake truly feels like a fever dream. I couldn't have asked for more with this remake!

I cried at how well they did Vivian’s story in the remake! I love her so much it hurts 🥲

9:20 Glitzville and the Glitz pit is China-themed, not Japanese-dojo themed. In Japan the place is called "Oolong Town" - it's much more explicit about the China theming than the localized name for the place. The instrument you're hearing in the new arrangements in Glitzville is an Erhu, which is a very stereotypically Chinese instrument. It's not Japanese.

I'm gonna be very dissapointed in anyone saying that the game running at 30 fps is what's keeping them from buying the Paper Mario game they've been asking for.
I agree, it’s just super silly in my opinion. TTYD runs at a rock solid 30 FPS..if it ran like Balan Wonderworld on Switch I’d totally understand.
But if rumors are to be believed we might even get 4K 60FPS on the Switch successor!
@@gregosaurusgamesYeah I’d much rather recommend a remake of TTYD over the input lag heavy NSO port of the first game. Which is a shame, because the first is my personal favorite. Would be happy to purchase a remake on Switch 2
@@robertlauncher I would love a remake of PM64 🥹 I know the combat in TTYD is better, but 64 just holds a special place in my heart (plus I think I like the partners a tad more in that one)
@@gregosaurusgames It does have Bow, Bombette, and Parakarry. My favorite character is the Vulture who will leave you alone if you say you’re Luigi because he doesn’t know who that is
I am so happy the backtracking is given the pipe treatment, especially for the two towns that did not get anyway to have an easy way to get to it. Also improves the so called 'bo-omb' annoyance less annoying. Still wish Luigi could have his own separate story about how he saved Princess Eclair in the Waffle Kingdom!
Those workarounds for the backtracking were amazing!
Also, I’d pay an obscene amount of money to play through Luigi’s Adventure in the Waffle Kingdom 😭
I’ve did an analysis of you…. I’ve seen your amiibo video, and was appalled that you barely had any subscribers or views, and yet your video production is in par with other mainstream youtubers. This is me not being a stalker but just intrigued by the situation, since I also plan on getting someone else into the mainstream…. I can tell this has been a long way coming for you, you finally feel ready, you are mature, smart, financially stable. And now you seize to conquer your actual goal, on becoming a youtuber. Even as a kid you made videos indicating this was your passion, but hey kids are dumb, so of course you didn’t go anywhere, you grew up…. But…. Reality hit, parents wanted you to be practical, and have a real job… so you went off to college and had no time to do videos. Hence now to the present, you have your job are financially stable, you have finally pleased parents and society. I can tell you put a lot of research on becoming a competent youtuber, and your just getting started. I recognize this has been many years in the making, and wish you luck on becoming famous. Hope this didn’t creep you out.

@@gregosaurusgames Original? Chapter 6 and 7’s versions of the Battle Theme. Best remix, easily Bowser and Kammy’s final battle. The remake/Origami King composers could make the one of the best metal albums ever.

This feels like the definitive version of the game, no question. Visuals are strictly an upgrade. Nothing tangible was cut or made worse (only things that people would argue are lower FPS and slow text boxes, which are really minor).
I think the new soundtrack is great and I'm glad they went all out remaking everything, but there are definitely some tracks I prefer in the original, while others I prefer in the remake. Unlike Super Mario RPG which I think every track was a complete upgrade. Though the big difference there is that SMRPG's original version of the soundtrack was meant to emulate live instruments, so when the overhaul could actually use modern tech to orchestrate it, everything just sounds like cleaner versions of the original. With TTYD, the soundtrack is way zanier and up to interpretation, and clearly they went with some very different interpretations for some tracks. I think the fact that it's divisive is a good thing, especially considering you can play with the original music if you want. Some people who didn't love some of the original tracks might have now found a new appreciation for one. And if you don't like one of the new ones, you can keep the original version in your rotation. Plus this allowed them to go completely original with new tracks entirely and not make them feel out of place for trying to imitate the original style, since the original style was also overhauled to keep up with the newer Paper Mario's OSTs (which, for everything negative we can say about the most recent Paper Mario games, all of the soundtracks have been bangers). Overall a massive win-win.

Last note I forgot to add: My biggest disappointments with the game (if you can call them that) are all "what if?" missed opportunity scenarios from the original that I would've hoped to see in a remake. Like bringing back more cut content such as the rest of the 64 partners, some of the cut badges/adding entirely new ones, more Luigi content, etc. But in the grand scheme of things I'm still totally satisfied, because I'd rather this nearly one-to-one modern remake with nothing cut or made worse than something they tried to cram too much into at the expense of other parts of the game being worse. Like these are just the same "disappointments" you could say I had for the original, and the original is still one of my favorite games of all time, so clearly they're not deal breakers or anything.
No question, this is the definitive version! I’m totally with you on that, and I’m super happy that it’s a 1-1 faithful remake rather than having things cut. Again, I would KILL for a DLC or side story where you get to play through Luigi’s story!
Personally I love most of the modernized music, but there have been a good handful that I prefer in the original (“The Crystal Stars” theme from the final boss fight is one that I think was a major downgrade in the remake unfortunately 😢)
But Mario RPGs new soundtrack is incredible!! I think the only one there that I didn’t like as much was the File Select theme, but that could be nostalgia. I couldn’t be happier with the new arrangements in that game though, they’re lovely!

It could use some more added. It’s great but I feel it needs more. Like more cooking recipes, a new game plus, maybe a more visual animation for Luigi’s story.

@@gregosaurusgames I was thinking about not making the game cost too high and something that would be enjoyable. Some cutscenes to match what Luigi tells would be the more efficient option. And maybe have the Luigi side be a separate game in the future
@@KGKSkull Yeah with how many fan game ideas there were back in the day (long before we ever thought Paper Mario would stray so far from the original 😢), I don't think anyone would've believed you if you said we got a TTYD remake 20 years later and still haven't gotten anything for Paper Luigi's side adventure. That would've been a shoo-in for a DLC-esque expansion on a port or something.
But the fact that it's such a glorious (and relieving) return to form is more than enough to please us now, so we don't even want to ask for more than this lol
