On April 25th 1915, a New Zealand soldier, Sgt Foster, landed on
the beaches at Gallipoli. 80 years later, his grandson prepared to
remember the fallen at an Anzac day celebration in Bosnia-
herzegovina. The grandson, Sgt-Major Ian Foster, serves
with UNPROFOR's Kiwi Company, the largest force New Zealand has
sent overseas since the Vietnam War. Under the shadow of Mount
Vlasic, the scene of recent fierce fighting, the flag was broken,
signifying the start of Anzac Day. A gunfire breakfast of rum
and coffee was served--the customary breakfast for fighting men in
the first world war. Later, members of the Turkish battallion
arrived from Zenica. The two former enemies commemorated the dead,
offering prayers of peace and friendship.

Those heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives! You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country to of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.
    Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, 1934

100+ years later. Turk, Kiwi, Aussie young men drink VB and get kebab. Brotherhood still there, no weight on their memory that this war happened.
