  • Eastleigh’s 8th Street in Airbase Ward is a buzz of activities. From kids playing on the new tarmac to vendors hawking their goods, everyone is busy.
Residents along this street are elated after it was finally given a major facelift by the Nairobi County government, following years of neglect and abandonment.
For many years, 8th Street remained dilapidated, with sewage literally running on the road. Moving around this area was a big problem, traders suffered losses as potential customers kept off.

Nowadays, when a road is fixed or tarmacked, it makes the news because it's a miracle when you see the government doing its work.

All roads in Eastleigh and Nairobi's estates should be fixed. The people should also work closely with the authorities in ensuring that our streets are towns and residential places are clean. Who is dumping waste carefully? We must hold the authorities accountable while playing an active role ourselves. Yesterday, I was driving from Nyeri and just outside the town, I saw the large metallic kanjo dumping container placed strategically outside the streets. People had dumped next to it instead of inside it! What a shame!

It's infuriating that basic infrastructure is being celebrated like a favour. We pay taxes, and it’s the government's legal obligation to provide proper administration and services. Fixing a road after years of neglect isn't something to be applauded-it's their job! We shouldn't be grateful for what's rightfully ours!

Problem with Eastleigh is once a road is fixed it is turned into a parking lot. A two lane road becomes a one lane road. And then the matatus come and make it worse. Basically Eastleigh needs some law and order! People need to be better organized.

😂😂 Ironically, Airbase Ward ilikuwa the best part of Eastliegh…. A neat Post office used to be there and clean roads na Bakery ya mkate. Sasa hiyo area yote ni Swamp ya sewage.
