  • The Sandhills are a narrow band of xeric (dry) sandy uplands that stretch across the Carolinas and Georgia. In North Carolina, the Sandhills are located within the inner coastal plain, just east of the fall line. The sands of the Sandhills were deposited by the ancient Atlantic Ocean over millions of years. The Sandhills contain one of the most diverse natural environments found in of the southeastern United States.

This is a very valuable video but conveniently left out the Gaelic speaking Highland Scots that built the towns and shaped the last few hundred years of Sandhills history. Why no mention of Argyle and Inverness and the lost townships of Highlanders that were forced to abandon Camp Bragg? My grandfather and his family members at Sandy Grove Presbyterian Church and Longstreet, which are kept by the government, were significant communities of Gaelic speakers. They lost an entire generation to the Southern cause but after many, many years of celebrating our Confederate dead with small flags on their graves we were told by the feds we could no longer honor our ancestors in this way. There is no outcry that I am aware. I’m all for honoring all three races that inhabited the Sandhills. We were all neighbors that largely lived in peace through rough times. Yet, why are we Highlanders left out of the story?
