  • Hello everyone! Welcome to another video on my #HowToBeAThirdMateSeries 👩‍✈️🤟
    VLOG # 4 - HOW TO CONDUCT ANNUAL FIRE HOSE TEST
    Requirements for Annual Testing and Maintenance can be found in MSC.1/Circ 1432. 7.1 Fire mains, fire pumps, hydrants, hoses and nozzles
    ✅ Visually inspect all accessible components for proper condition;
    ✅ Flow test all fire pumps for proper pressure and capacity. Test emergency fire pump with isolation valves closed;
    ✅ test all hydrant valves for proper operation;
    ✅pressure test a sample of fire hoses at the maximum fire main pressure, so that all fire hoses are tested within five years;
    ✅ verify all fire pump relief valves, if provided, are properly set;
    ✅ examine all filters/strainers to verify they are free of debris and contamination; and
    ✅ nozzle size/type correct, maintained and working.
    Note ‼️
    It is not necessary to test all fire hoses onboard annually. The regulation states that you can test random fire hoses annually, just make sure to test all of them within five years. However, I did test all fore hoses during my annual for my own assurance and for everyone's safety.
    Risk Assessment should be done prior conducting this job because there are risks when you take out the fire hoses from it's stowing position. Just make sure to return the fire hoses immediately on the day, so mitigate the risk imposed.

    You do not need to test all your fire hoses at working pressure every year only 20% and make a record so all of them are tested in a 5 year rotation .

    Just a little advice, please open hydrants cover from little bit near of hydrant not opposite of it with "fire hydrant spanner" for protection any injures. Couse it can maybe thrown by pressure inside if any. (at 3:28 minutes) Have a nice watch :)

    In my final shipping company SMS we had lifeboat drills and fire drills once a week, I was alone, had no helpers on all safety-related tests, checks, and works, all firehouses test every 3 months, and all fire extinguishers maintenance had the same timeline, other safety equipment much less time, every 3 months a complete record of that to master to sign, any mistake found, expect a verbal scolding by C/O, NEVER AGAIN BACK TO SEA, bridge paperwork, continues chore. lookout useless.

    Testing at full main pressure should probably be done with the nozzle shut off. Otherwise it is less than full pressure.
    Do you really take ALL of the hoses at once? What if there is a fire during the test? I'd probably do 1/2 on one day, half the next.. and not take all of the hoses in a given area.

    Hello! I have a few questions for you.
    1. I found out in some different youtube channels instructing how to pressurize test the fire hose, they do "shut off" the stream through nozzle and check the water pressure through a gauge indicator. In your video, such action as shutting streaming off through the nozzle have not been carried out. What is the difference? Do fire hoses have to maintain full fire main pressure when nozzle shut off or not?
    2. In my internship term, we had carried out pressure test of fire hoses by just linking the fire hoses to the fire hydrants and inspected if the hoses leaking. But we had not a pressure gauge somehere or a digital pressure indicator just as you have in this video. I think our test sucked. But do you think our test we made during my internship term could pass the pressurize test criteria or not?
    3. As I mentioned before, they shut off nozzle and read the pressure through a gauge. And that sound kind of weird to me because where all of those pressurized water go when they shut off the nozzle? It must be very dangerous for the fire main system.

    • @ironmatic1
      @ironmatic1 Před rokem

      No, they don't. Hoses loose pressure when flowing water due to friction.
