- My Take on How to Install a PISTORM 600. Join me a s I attempt to install my first Amiga PISTORM 600. Will it go to plan or will it go pear shaped ?
From preparing the PI strom to installing the hardware and software its all here. Giving the humble Amiga 600 amazing speed .Follow along as we navigate through soldering the header onto the Raspberry Pi, and finally installing the software and running the speed test and OS thanks to the help of the friendly Kraken board holder from @PCBWay

I have an A600, with 2MB chip RAM, a Furia accelerator, a pcb based CF card adapter, hard keyboard membrane. and two A500 with PiStorms ;-)
Yeah I used the furia before it’s a good card and with the extra mem you can use whdload :). Also having the pistorm In a 500 gives you the ability to use a hdd on the sd amazing Thanks for the comment
Good lil vid dude 😁, the PCBWay logo was annoyingly placed for the command line stuff though
Good spot never noticed it 😊. Will bear that in mind for future releases. Thanks for the comment 😊
Running shape shifter mac emu on it is super fun
Will have to give it go when I sit down and have time to use it lol 😂 thanks for the comment Will certainly check it out
One advantage of using the PiStorm in an Amiga 600 is you do not need the internal IDE for harddiscs anymore. You can convert IDE to Sata, allowing to ad an eSATA connector (maybe remove the TV-modulator to place the eSATA, to connect an external CD/DVD drive.
While I have not done this on my A600 (it has a vampire), I did a lot of tests on my A2000 with buddha IDE, converting IDE to SATA, SATA to IDE and than to SlimLine connector - and it worked well.
Even with eSata for easy cabeling (not nice to route 40pin flat cable out of the Amiga) I recommend using an IDE-CD(or DVD)-drive. Sata drives do not have analoge audio out. A second reason I use IDE2Sata and SATA2IDE simply is slim-line drives do not have a master/slave jumper. I was unable to connect a slim-line slot-in drive to my Amiga, as it was never detected. Slim-line IDE CD/DVD sets master/slave/CS in firmware. However, as SATA has only one chanel, the SATA2IDE converter seems to adress it independently of the firmware setting (2 out of 3 converter I tested worked).
Also the TV-Modulator sits directly next to the power in. Depending on the PSU you might add a 5V DC-out next to the eSATA, to make cabeling more easy; maybe even an audio in to mix cd-sound with amiga sound.
Just some ideas. With Amiga CD's still released (Amiga Future magazine), imho having an easy way to connect CD is worth it (if you do not have a pcmcia cd-controller, which is even more easy)
What a great idea. I will look into that yeah the Amiga 600 is an underwater and machine and having the connector external like that I never thought of. Thanks for the comment :)
@@Retro4u Actually I always thought the developers might add support for USB Cd-Drives into Pistorm. You can add usb storage devices as "physical harddrives" and you can use harddrive images and cd-images. But you can not use an USB CD drive (wich would be the best solution of course). Still, it's about 2years ago I last tried it (not Emu68 but the other firmware). So I might try it in the future.
Actually I have a CDTV with defect CD-drive. Thats the reason I want a slot-in slim line CD/DVD drive with pistorm. While of course it would not work as an CDTV anymore, it would become a quite nice desktop Amiga...
@oleurgast730 ahh the cdtv yeah it’s difficult to get parts for. Such a nice machine though and huge job to recap lol 😂. Yeah that’s a good idea I’m sure they will work out something soon as the pistorm is always getting updates and fixes and the Amiga community is so big and lots of clever people out there :)
Pistorms are cool and the compatibility is getting better all the time
That is agree 👍 it’s going to get better and better. Thanks for the comment
A600 upgraded = Baby A3000 ;),.
Nice video.
Question... Best/Recommended places/ways to get a PISTORM 600?
In a way yes. The size of the 600 is great but would love a big box Amiga :) thanks for the comment
First, Well done, Keep it going
Thankyou :) I’ll keep on trying got loads to fix lol 😂
Great video mate
Thanks 👍 glad you like it :) will hopefully be a Mac one soon
Great video, very informative. Just followed you on my A600 with PS and all worked fine.
Thankyou glad it helped. Thanks for the comment
Interesting to see what it could do.. I never got that technical with it. Good Vid🕹👍
Thankyou. Yeah amazing how a PI can make it like 1000 times faster lol 😂 crazy 🤪
Nice vid bud, thanks for sharing. Hope you feel better soon! :)
Thanks Buddy :) yeah getting over it now
Enjoyed that. I’d really like a more in depth look at it, to see whether a PiStorm600 is any worse than a PiStorm1200. I have a space issue, so could a smaller 600 actually do everything I need?
So far I’ve been running all my games no issues. Yeah the 600 has found a new lease of life in its compact size. I need to replace the membrane as it’s lost some keys next. But the good thing about the pistorm is the price and also the face it’s being updated all the while. You would miss the AGA stuff though
A very nice video! I have two questions: 1) If I already have Workbench on a CF-card in the Amiga, do I still need to install Workbench to the Emu68 SD-card? 2) On the Amiga 600, does the composite video out (yellow socket) work with Emu68? Cheers!
You can sue the CF but it is slower but fast enough for a Amiga. The composite will indeed work :) Thanks for the comment
where did you find caffine OS?
I had it when it was available made it a while back will look see if it’s still available
