It seems bizarre to me that it’s never occurred to Dyson to put a simple trigger lock on their finger switch, thus giving consumers the benefit of using the finger lock when needed.

It's a $9 accessory you can put on if you wanted. The problem lies in the fact that when people have it they tend to overuse it and they do excessive wear and tear on their vacuum or burn through their battery faster. Thus giving them the impression that the battery is weaker than it really is and making them less likely to buy another vacuum with them

An aftermarket trigger lock solves the trigger problem.. if you consider it a problem at all. I've had a v8 for many years and the trigger never bothers me. Seeing that the suction performance is literally worse in some scenarios or marginally better i cant justify buying the gen 5. For me coming from a v8, the v15 is plenty better. Its going for $500 total clean on costco right now for black friday and thats what i'll be getting. The gen 5 is going for about 750 on amazon but its not worth it in my opinion, I could use the 150 somewhere else.
Thank you for the time and effort you put into making this video, it helped me tremendously in making my decision.

In terms of suction all have the same AW on Auto since V10. Only difference is working time and maximum suction on Max mode.

I’ve just upgraded from my V8 Origin to the Gen5 Detect. The choice was more difficult for me as the newer V15S Submarine was the same price as the Gen5 Detect Absolute. The V15S has the same integrated crevice tool as the Gen5. Ultimately I chose the Gen5 for the extra grunt.
Interestingly, all the Gen5 tools work on my V8 except the fluffy optic head. I think it’s a voltage issue. Because the wand with integrated crevice tool fits and powers the Gen5 motorised head when attached to the V8.

This video is done very well and helped me decide which one I’m getting. I like that u thoroughly detailed everything, you also show side by side close up comparisons. You pointed out a lot more things that I didn’t see in other vids. The hidden wand was a surprise that was not mentioned in any other vids I watched. I found a lot more information on this vid in all! So thank you for taking the time in making this video.

I got the Gen5 Detect. It’s awesome! On high power it like suctions down to floor feels cool! It works so good! I use it on the high power heavier areas n med power everywhere else. It does die quick on high power. I’m fast at it most times a quick zip thru house no recharging needed. I have tile throughout house and some small floor mats. I do have dyson big ball, but it’s a pain to use. This Detect is cool. I do like that u can tell there is no dust going back into air. I have bad allergies to dust n this vac works super good! It’s not too bulky or too heavy.

Thank you for this detailed comparison review between the Gen5 and V15. I wonder is the extra suction would translate less clogging at the exit whole for me when it comes to long animal hairs.
I really like the ergonomic design of the new handle with extra padding where the upper hand meets the vacuum like the Oversize models and the longer battery housing would hopefully keep the unit standing upright when heavier small/short attachment tool is attached to the unit. The build-in combination tool is going to be great for me without the need of carrying extra tool on the wand; however, I wish it has LED build into it like the optional LED craves tool. The power button will helpful elevating the need of holding onto the power trigger when trying to use the animal brush tool while holding onto the animal for me. I wish the Low Reach tool was part of package as most less expansive cordless vacuum have this feature build into their wand.
I hope Dyson will soon intergrade the laser into the Digital Motorhead as it is a much more effective tool for vacuuming long animal hairs when it comes to cleaning up the tool itself. I am actually happy that the suction is less in ECO setting as I need it to be less powerful when cleaning the floor mats without the Digital Motorhead sucking up the floor mats and stop the brush rotation all the time.
The noise may ALMOST be a major factor to me as I went from V11 to V15 just to get away from the higher pitch noise; however, I have since than been using the Airpods Pro 2's Adaptive Noise Cancelation mode when vacuuming to protect my hearing so it would less of an issue now. Thanks again for this excellent caparison review.

V-15 is better. You can already get the same fluffy head of the gen5 for the V-15, you can get the newer carpet head used for the gen 5 for the V-15, you can get the hepa filter and not too mention there are way more attachments for the V-15 than the Gen5. Both perform almost on the same par in every category where the rest is just nitpicking. The only real difference is the longer battery time (You can get an extra batter for the V-15) and the slightly heavier suction on the gen 5. For $400 more, it is not worth it. Get the V-15

    • @gingernutz6954

Sounds like lack of maintenance. if you aren't emptying your bin when it reaches max every time, washing your filters, tapping out your cyclone occasionally, running the battery down at least once a month, leaving the machine to cool down after using before charging and not using max mode as your normal vac mode, your battery wont last long.

@@gingernutz6954i literally did all of that maintenance stuff with my V8, still had to replace the battery after 2 years. 2 years later and now I have to replace it again. I'm going to try a third party battery this time, I'm really annoyed by how fast the official Dyson ones aged. The falloff in capacity and power is insane, I'm getting 15 mins of running time on normal mode and less than 1 min on max. This is down from 40 min and 7 min respectively

The Dyson V15 and Gen5 are so heavy that I wouldn't buy them at any price. Dyson V12 is weak. Considering the poor quality of Dyson, I bought the Dreame R20 and it is absolutely amazing! I have only one comment about it - the R20 has a backlight on the universal brush, and not on the brush for hard surfaces.
