Xylazine-laced fentanyl is causing wounds and amputations, but is it driving up overdose deaths?

  • A powerful animal sedative in the illicit drug supply is complicating the U.S. response to the opioid crisis, scrambling longstanding methods for reversing overdoses and treating addiction.
Xylazine can cause severe skin wounds, but whether it is leading to more deaths - as suggested by officials in Washington - is not yet clear, according to health and law enforcement professionals on the front lines of efforts in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. In fact, early data suggests the drug may inadvertently be diluting the effects of fentanyl, the synthetic opioid behind most overdose deaths. (AP Video: Tassanee Vejpongsa)

I started doing drugs since my teenage, got addicted to fentanyl for over 6 years. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 3 years totally clean. This is something that really need to be use globally to help people with related health challenges.

There will not be a solution to opioids until there is a solution to physical dependence / withdrawal. It's amazing we aren't throwing everything we can at this issue. For example, Ibogaine therapy shows a lot of potential for treating withdrawal, but it cannot be used in the US due to its classification. Another example is the NSS-2 Bridge device. New technology and scientific discoveries will solve the issue.... not social and legal programs.

Don't be fooled, we can solve this epidemic, there is scientific technology that we can use to make the users stop craving the drug and still be happy, but the rich need ppl like this, so that they can stay rich, it funds the hospitals, the shelters and the city to have poverty....along with wealthy ppl.. it's sad that it's a world like that, but hopefully that changes. The Rich elites absolutely refuse to cure the drug addiction epidemic, because if everyone is happy and sober then that means overpopulated intelligence! When ppl are drowning in addiction, they are able to control the masses alot easier then if ppl were actually sober and inventing new technology and coming up with ideas to actually help the people living in poverty, and relieving the population of stress, like not paying rehab bills, doctor bills and insurance policies , free energy and ways to feed and shelter the homeless... So in fact YOU lose all credibility when YOU start spouting out pessimistic statements.

There really aren’t any federally funded drug facilities. And there is really no way that the current congress we have is going to agree to set some up. Because in the two party system, if Dems suggest someone Republicans will automatically be against it. And if Republicans suggest it, Democrats will automatically be against it. There is no way forward from this system we have. This will simply go on until all the users die. Which is what the drug manufacturers want anyway. They want us dead, our own country wants us dead. Nobody cares about us addicts anywhere. If the church wanted us to live the first thing they would have to do is stop homelessness. There is plenty of space in every church auditorium in America to house the homeless. Same with all the schools. Nobody cares about us. Because we are living proof of their failures.
