    Nice! I saw that the 13" models had soldered-in RAM, so I'm glad 15" machines aren't that way. I just picked up a 16GB RAM module and 1TB M.2 for my x360. Your video gave me thoughts of going to 32GB RAM, but I'm not a deveoper. 😅 Thanks for the how-to guide. I figured I would have to pull the rubber feet to acces the screws. Geronimo! When laptops were bigger the memory was easier to access.

      So true. I assume in future everything would be further compacted and embedded inside one chip just like M1 (MAC Book)

      Is it true that we can't upgrade RAM on 13". I am planning to get one this month.

    • @techfootreviews
      @techfootreviews  Před 6 měsíci

      Well, it depends on the laptop model. In most cases, 13" laptops are so compact that they don't provide an option for memory upgrades as the RAM modules are non-removable. There might be a few laptops that allow memory upgrades. Opt for a 16GB or 32GB memory configuration and allocate an additional 32/64GB from M.2 storage to function as virtual memory.

    Thanks for the video. I’m looking at a similar upgrade. I’m only wondering if you needed to remove the battery to get at the m.2 storage and ram shield off? It almost looked like you could have gotten by unplugging the battery from the board and then remove the storage/ram shield. I appreciate the video and your time creating it and posting it. It gives me more confidence to do these upgrades. Thanks again!

      Thank you : ) I am glad the video helped.
      Yes, there is no need to remove the battery while replacing the M.2 Storage.
      However, it is always recommended to remove the battery to be on the safe side as anything could go wrong anytime.

      Build quality is really good. 4K video editing requires a really strong GPU. I have done the FHD editing and it worked well. This model does have the standard GPU (Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe) - I am not sure how good it'd be for 4k Editing.

      Go for 2x8GB. There seems to be a maximum limit of 16GB on this model.
      But yes, you can have two drives: SATA SSD and PCIe NVME M.2. Personally, I'd recommend you to go with PCIe SSD as in your Primary Storage because its way faster (2x-3x) than traditional SATA SSD. And if you want backup/additional storage, then attach SATA SSD as well.

      I doubt you can upgrade the ram for your model. But yes, there is a way out. You can upgrade your NVMe M.2 SSD and use 16-32GB of the disk as RAM. These days new NVME M.2 SSD disks are almost equally faster as the RAMs giving you the read/write speeds up to 10GB/sec. So why not use 16/32GB of disk as the Virtual Memory as an alternative.

      From Amazon, I guess. I have used Samsung (DDR4 3200). If you are planning to get 32GB, consider buying two (16GB each), instead of 1 of 32GB. Using two slots gives slightly better performance. Plus, if one RAM gets damaged, you won't need to buy the full memory again.
