- My thoughts on the Heikendorf Panther.
■History of the Panther.
This Panther was built at the Panther factory Maschinenfabrik
Niedersachsen-Hannover,Germany under the direction of the British Army REME.
It was number four of the Panthers and Jagdpanthers built by the British.
It was probably placed on a targetrange and then bought by a scrap merchant
in a War Department sale in the 1950’s and remained
in his scrap yard in Surrey, England,
until it was discovered in October 1977. It was then recovered,
in a badly damaged and incomplete state, and transported to Germany.
It has since been restored to running order.

Give this man his tank back
Indeed.
4TRExEZz Private museum or not, that 75mm, and at least 2 MG-34's which would have all been active are dangerous weapons. The FlaK 88 too. The V1 however, could level the building if it were to go off
Xavier Moavero Indeed if the bombs were active that would be a big hazzard, so without knowing there full story we can't really say that this was a unfair action.
4TRExEZz he got it back
rly ?
Nice, Germany. As if that man could purchase long 75mm shells anymore. Even if you found them, they would most likely be very dangerous to shoot.
And the cannon. It was cut down, to assure no real compression to the shell. If it did fire, at all, if the breech was untouched, then the shell would literally fall out. It would not fire.
I feel for this man.
Jimmy Page It's just dumb liberals.
That's really a robbery...The old man should have the right to keep the Panther....
+YouLin Ke Yeah, the guy has a constitutional right to own a tank, right? It's in the second amendment. Just ask the NRA.
+thehistorywatcher This was in Germany, not the USA.
Really, the only reason he should keep the tank is because he'll be the coolest grandpa in the country. In the links in the description, the gun doesn't work, so what danger is it?
+John Grogan He might be allowed to keep it. If it is demilitarized correctly. It isn't forbiden to own a tank in Germany. It's just a problem when the tank can still be used to fire.
+CrniWuk If you want to demilitarize a tank to keep it you have to make sure that NOTHING (not even the turret traverse ring) is operational, so to keep it. It must be completely disabled: No working engine, no working gun (breach, barrel etc), nothing
TheWuerstchenwasser
But ... there are people in Germany owning tanks that can drive. Albeit, they don't have a turret anymore. So it really is just more or less a crawler tractor.
Damn, the guy saved the tank from destruction, restored the tank and got it stolen from him... Hope he get's it back
Yeah I agree they should at least compensate him.
PzKpfw VI Tiger ausf. H1 Killjoy douchebags; let the poor bastard have his fun!
Buys a tank... Spends money and years repairing it.. Gets confiscated
drfrenchfry it obviousyhad no ammunition in it and the gun did not work either, he is doing nothing illegal here :(
Just like my marijuana plants. Bullshit
And they broke the front suspension of it while removing it .
rolling stones I forgot about this story. I wonder if he got it back or anything
so this guy bought a panther, restored it, shoved to people that wanted to see it and then the goverment came and stole it :P
simppeli92 Governments like stealing things that don't belong to them, in the name of their laws that nobody gets to vote on except them, strange how it works, a bit like gangsterism, in fact a lot like gangsterism, in fact lets be honest, it is gangsterism on a large enough scale to make them legal and everybody else illegal.
+Jagdtoq Its not the scale of whatever they do, its the fact that they make the rules and guess what, if you make the rules, you dont have to break them because you decide what rules to set, so youre basically free to do whatever you want.
+Jagdtoq Rothschild Zionism is behind all evil on this planet.. And they blame the Muslims for all the evil that they do....All authority is evil. The tool of authority is violence. These psychopaths want world domination. They are masters of reversal. trickery, false flags and deception. People need to understand what they are up against...JFK told us about them in his Secret societies speech...before they murdered him for bypassing their private -for profit bank they call the federal reserve..thats not federal. because he printed non interest money backed by silver. The Rothschild's and Rockefellers and 11 more families own the federal reserve that they 've been printing counterfeit currency for 103 yrs that they sell back to the people at interest when Kennedy wanted to do away with their system and print debt free money at 0 interest so that everybody could prosper...instead of just bankers...They have undermined and gutted the manufacturing base of the USA in favor of communist Chinese slave labor ...These banksters are hyper criminals of the highest order
Islam is a primitive form of government...
getredytagetredy your a fucking idiot
Ok the cops have crossed the line... You can take his V1 rocket, you can take his 88, but you never EVER mess with a man's tank!
Damn, that tank is in fantastic condition... Looks like it literally was just pulled from the 40's. Really hope it finds a home
+JUNTEX Really! There aren't many of these things left...it should be in a museum.
+ThatGuyBen99 Agreement
+ThatGuyBen99 no it should be in the guys property.
+JUNTEX no in germany they distroy all ww2 relicts :(
+PETERVONFROSTER it will not be destroyed.
So they just stole this old man collection
To restore all of those things and have it be stolen away it is very sad. Id hope he gets it back, maybe open a small museum?
Direwolf13PS3 Thank you for your comment, but this was a small museum.
Panzer Picture A small museum's worth of artifacts surely, but if it was an actual museum which was recognized by the country/district then I don't see why they would take his property.
Direwolf13PS3 I was told by someone who knows him that he got it back after a few days and that he's suing them.
Well if that's true I hope he wins the case. They damaged quite a bit of his property, one of which cant be replaced easily (one of the eagles).
Direwolf13PS3 they destroyed the road wheels on the panther too.
Good, but sad video. My heart would be broken watching my beloved things taking away from me.
They pretty much destroyed the whole track system and drive shaft of this poor Panther tank
The Panther is dangerous? I doubt there is much 75mm ammunition laying around.
+Brett Hobbs You can kill people by just driving over them you know?
A Panther is pretty heavy so you cant just stop it, if something is in its way, it will just get over it.
and its bulletproof...like tanks are supposed to be
+TheWuerstchenwasser pretty sure a car is more dangerous in that regard
+TheWuerstchenwasser you can do the same in a bulldozer or large tractor but the government doesn't seize those.
Yeah, but a bulldozer isn't a one of a kind relic that's worth a lot of millions in a government auction.
*****
Because bulldozers and tractors arent tanks, they are not bulletproof and havent been made to kill people
Actually the tank was fully operational, including the gun. So it is a weapon of war and the ownership is not allowed. But: The owner wrote 1977 to the authorities to make sure, he doesn´t violate any laws. Officials came to the conclusion it is not operational any more and allowed him to purchase the tank and restore it. Years later the german army repaired the engine for him, when it was broken, charged 28,000 Euros and gave it back to him after repair. Still no one was caring about it´s fully functional weaponry. But suddenly after 50 years the authorities raid the home of an 78 year old because of violence against weapon of war control laws. So, who is the one to blame?
+ironheadfm Didn't you watch the video? In the video he says the gun was cut up into pieces by the British and has only been cosmetically restored. If fired, it would blow apart. So you're saying that the narrator in the video is full of it?
Andrew Burt No,. I am just reciting, what german newspapers were saying.
+ironheadfm they raided his home, because they searched art, stolen by the nazis and he was a suspect.
if he has life ammunition, warheads etc lieing around its no wonder, that all of that is confiscicated.
ironheadfm if the barrel got cut to pieces then its not operational anymore
ironheadfm do you not see the cuts on the gun...
That's sad!! Hope he gets it back along with the other things they took.
If he gets his artifacts back, he could probably open his collection to the public as a museum. Perhaps as the Heikendorf World War II History Museum or something like that.
Crossing my fingers.
+Lynn Dippel sadly he dosen't get it back
AWW Bummer!! :(
+Lynn Dippel lol he has got it back months ago, don´t worry
This is amazing what this man has done by preserving these amazing pieces of history. Driving it around...how? It clearly didn't have the tracks. The police must have really messed up those bogie wheels while taking it away.
Art Torres indeed, but it had tracks, but they took them off to make the transport easier for them.
Sad story..
Indeed
Must have been a huge basement ;-)
If he legally obtained it and he paid for it with his own money it is his, any damages to his property should be reinverst.
Your right, at 6:39 and 6:43 you can see a welding bead on the panthers gun. What a shame to tear the wheels up, you could tell it was a labor of love to him.
Incredible.Great job in restoring this awesome tank.
This is un acceptable, a man took a tank restored it and had it in his basement probably a hobby too restore ww2 relics if they don't give him back his property thats just a disgracefull action by the people involved and they are just looking too take it away.
Probably should have thought about that, before getting him self so much attention and if he broke the law it's all his fault.
it's not
he broke no law, the tank and aa were inoperable
he broke the law, you're not allowed to just have WW2 weapons at home...
Jonny Dahl. They weren't operable.
That man cared enough to restore and maintain such a prolific piece of military engineering history. He deserves to have it back, on the condition it can be displayed for everyone to marvel at. These amazing German tanks are about as rare as any tank gets.
How can we support him ? Or get his tank and relicts back too him ?
I hope he gets his Panther back! I would love to see it operational again.
+Sigmaster40 If he gets it back you will probably see nothing of it anymore.
Leave the f-ing guy alone. was he threatening Poland? Give me a break... if it wasn't for this man the tank would have ended up as scrap. Man... ya gotta love Panthers! Beautiful.
That stinking Merkel government. ....so anti German THEY and SHE should be fucking de activated. This is private property and worth a fortune. ...those twats from the Bundeswehr scraped it along on its rubber wheels....I hope Herr Flick sues their neutered asses.
+robert mountford are you from germany?
Yes
Merkel's general disdain for Germany and it folks. Note the anti-flag video by her.
Pfft.. who doesn't have one of these in their house?
Contact Germany and request they put this Panther in a museum
Jack Fendley lets hope it will end up in a museum or with the original owner and not in the Trier storage.
We have cousins who live in the UK outside of Carlisle In 1971 while digging a foundation on their property they uncovered several tar covered containers of British WWII era equipment that included small weapons including machine guns, flares and flare guns, rifles, pistols, along with radio gear, food rations, and first aid kits. All the weapons were in usable condition and having been wrapped in many layers oiled paper. All the weapons and first aid kits were seized (first aid kits had morphine syrettes) but they were allowed to keep the radio gear.
Some people will just never understand the love between a man and his Panther.
That is why men always look so young, because men buy toys as time goes on.
Hope this awesome tank doesn't end up in a umpopular memorial to be forgotten and rusting away
Carlos Portocarrero Don't think any Memorial with a Panther wil ever be unpopulair :)
I did not realized that this story was going so far around the world.
I am living near Heikendorf (5 kilometers away), also i heard of it really fast in the local newspapers.
If you want trust the owner of this Panzerkampfwagen V Panther, the gun wasn't operational.
His lawyer said this, the 88 FLAK was it too, the torpedo that they found wasnt.
The german Army (Bundeswehr) was here to get the Panther out of his garage, like you show us.
But they damaged the street really hard, so that it's nearly impossible to travel there by car or by bus, and it's not repaird right now.
So-called, the owner used it in the german "Schneekastastrophe" (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schneekatastrophe_in_Norddeutschland_1978) to clean up the streets - and so many people knew that he had this tank - and thus had no problem (czcams.com/video/k_3vySF3vKA/video.html).
I'm thinking that they should give him his tank back if its really unoperational and let him play with it, as long as nobody get hurt.
if I remember this guy used to take his kids/grand kids to school in the tank(s) when it was snowing... just a shame the typical government wont let you have anything nice
I know i'm late but this guy definately did a better job on keeping this tank at its best condition than if the government had it first.
He should be compensated wow what a beautiful restoration!!!
You can only imagine what other relics and hardware are being kept in cellars................
I think everyone needs, at least one Panther tank. If you can't get a Panther, maybe a Tiger? I hope he gets it back, so he can display it for future generations to see. These are a rolling engineering lesson. Thanks for posting.
It's in great shape. they should pay him for storing it for so many years.
The gun isn't operational, the owner said that he had a note from the local government in Germany saying the tank was demilitarized and could not fire ammunition
You need to watch the video, because your just repeating what I'm saying.
That's not what I heard you say. If it is then speak more clearly in the next videos you make. What I heard was " Of course this Panther is lethal, because the gun was operational" 1:08
@@yeetusdeletus9193 that's called sarcasm, like I said watch the whole video.
And you probably don't realize your commenting on a video that's almost 5 years old now.
@@PanzerPicture I know. I don't really care about how old the video is. I just want you to fix that grammar mistake or clarify what you meant so other people, your viewers and such, don't hear something that isn't true by accident
@@PanzerPicture On top of that it's been nearly half a year. If you didn't want you hear about this anymore then just disengage and stop talking
Great research!! thank you.
+River King Your Welcome.
+Ded Mo5 Thank you for making me learn.
Love this story. How exciting for us history nerds. I hope they dont decide to destroy it. By the way thank you for not playing heavy metal music in the back ground..your choice of melodramatic music was perfect for this story.
+souljah11b Thank you im glad you liked the music. :)
Sloped armor, mobility, speed and a powerful cannon on this tank made the Panther one of the best in WW 2!!
Ignoring all the blatant issues with it internally like the awful transmission, final drives, etc - sure
Good video!
Thanks for clearing all that up.
Christopher Harper Thank you for your comment I'm glad you like it.
Back in 1991 I worked with a machinist named Otto Shaefer. He was a German tank gunner in WWII. In 1944 he was in a Panther in France when he got taken out. He thinks it was from rocket firing fighter planes. His tank caught on fire when it was hit. He told me he got one of the crewmen out. He said he fell into snow and was captured by Americans that saved his life. He said he was in a hospital for a long time. Otto had terrible burn scars on his neck and arms. He told me his biggest fear was planes not allied tanks.
That Was true of the German Wehrmacht and the US Army!
i just hate the law system in this world he put thousands of euros and time into fixing that just so he can look at hit maybe he was the grandson of a vetrin and that was his grand fathers tank and what do the cops do they fucking take it, thats like a cop going to a farmer and taking all his machinery because its dangerous
The Pilot Penguin This Panther has never seen any action it was build by the British after the war.
Panzer Picture well he could have been in a different panther and this was the only one but you get my point
he admitted and everyone in the neighborhood knew he had it because at one point he plowed snow with it
it was a realy hard Winter in 77/78 and the take the Tank to help other people...
I hope he got compensation for all his hard work in restoring it!
The German Newspapers reported that the owner was driving it around during a heavy snowfall back in the 1970's because it was the only vehicle that could move due to the extreme snow, he delivered supplies, fuel etc in the Tank.
Everybody knew about it !
wow where can I find more info?? super
Hell of a vehicle. Gave Sherman crews fits.
+Douglas Street Gave them shit in their pants for sure
Agreed.
Yes it did but most of that tank was copy into the American M 26
Too bad the M26 didn't enter service earlier, many lives would have been saved.
The M-26 Did get into combat and was hit 13 times by a 88 And kill 3 88 in one day, but that happened one week before the war ended. Its must be noted that the US Government would not allow the M 26 To go into combat until the war was almost over.
The M-26 Was on line to be sent into combat by May 1944 The reason why it was never sent until the end, was the USSR!.. The US Army did not want the Russia to know we had a tank like that.
a well designed battle tank all the British and American tank crews hoped they would never come up against one in battle
its actually a design from one of the British after the war trying to come up with more ideas on their own tanks and used probably as a field tester or just to be stored somewhere till needed then ended up not being needed and sold for scrap to a man who has restored it then had it stolen-Sorry "Confiscated" from him for no reason.
You can see that the barrel was welded back on to it.
+58belvedere Indeed, If you look close you can see a sort of line.
He didn't just drove arround for fun. He helped the inhabitants with the snow. That's what i've heard and i am from Germany.
:)
Indeed, he did but he had stolen art in his possession so I don't think he will get it back soon, but most criminals get away with everything here in Germany and The Netherlands so he probably will at one point.
I wonder if the scrap yard was the one out the yard near ruxley lane chessington . I remember stories of a tank coming out of it and it being a special tank
vqey2 don't know really, somehow several sources give the scrapyard a different name and place.
That's easily the best and most complete Panther tank ever except for the missing tracks.
It seems that the court will decide this autumn if they will sue him or nof he will get it back. Don't know what takes so long about findign out if this thing works or not, but they really tokk their time.
This reeks of a witch hunt. This is a typical underhanded tactic by law enforcement when they know they have made an erroneous arrest and/or want to keep the extremely valuable seized items. Apologizing would open them up to a potential civil suit so they will double down and hope the man just lets them keep what they stole from him.
I hope Herr Flick not only gets his property back but also gets an apology and the bureaucrat who is behind this scheme gets fired without his/her pension.
When you stop to consider an operational Panther G is probably worth over $2 million US dollars, if I were the old man, I'd want my tank back pronto.
This is just another example of a government nicking someone's private pieces, which are pristine condition. I would wager that if the Panther Tank was in a museum somewhere it would be undrivable and look a lot worse for wear,It's theft! no matter how they try and market their motives.
Nice video I heard about it in the news, now I know much more about it tnx
Your Welcome and thank you for your comment.
that tank, is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous, wish it was mine
Wow , he must have a very large basement.
Bill23799 Thank you for you comment Bill and If you look at my next video you will see some pictures from his basement.
I do hope they look after it, totally awesome machine, should be preserved, and hopefully give the guy a break who owns it.
I heard from a friend there are other tanks hidden in Germany. A fully operational Tiger 1 and panthers as well as other equipment. Hope these rumors are true!
+Sigmaster40 Only one Panther is in the hands of a private collector in Germany nothing more.
As any soldier will tell you, when you train to handle weapons(it's people who are dangerous not the weapon)the guy restored it not to go on a rampage and it's so sad if he doesn't get it back.He should be commended for his work and all the governments at the time weren't complaining in the taxes he payed to move and get it restored.
That was nasty, He spent ages restoring that rare beautiful tank. He should sue the asses of german government for that. That tank worth millions. and they do that to. They will make sum excuse and sell it off to make money.
Shaun Holmes not really they were not even there for the Panther, the owner was trying to sell stolen art, together with a Dutch art criminal and they search his house and found said stolen art and they cleaned out his house, so its his own fault.
Yet they took the Panther and flack gun, plus other stuff Under the Weapons of war act. Not stolen goods, so they would need another warrant to remove them. and way they treated that tanks nasty. Come on for god sakes. They dragged the thing out. why not jack it up and put tracks on it/ then drive it out slow. It was running and working order. Hence why the guy looking at suing them for damage to panther, Jez they did not want to damage the house, but a priceless tank like the panther they will wreck the road wheels and suspension, plus damage fenders, ect. That is just insane, 2 army tow tanks, loads of army engineers and they cant get a million dollar tank out of a house without damaging it.
The funny thing is, that he cleared the driveways of his neighbors from snow. Almost every Year :D
It is really annoying to see some stuff like that that tank that has survived for 70 odd years treated with such disrespect by idiots that dont care cant they see the usefullness of keeping pieces of history alive to not only make sure the same mistakes are not made again but also to teach the young folks how good engineers were and to keep advancing technology, that machine came from a time where people were truly gifted
+Maria Dixon Indeed I totally agree.
Governments are not so different, wherever you go.
+Chris Leete Ye but in germany theyre are fucking dicks
I have heard some stories that it wasn´t so extraordinary that those tanks were standing around in famers barns until into the fifties.
Beutiful tank. To sad he couldn't keep it.
the dark goblin Had he known they were coming for it, he could have loaded it up and it would have been "The Panther's Last Stand" right there in that posh neighborhood. I can just picture the Panther roaring back and forth along those little neighborhood streets as it took up different positions in a protracted battle with local police/army units.
Nice little documentary. I hope you do an update.
vonBeavis thank you and I did do a update video have a look on the channel.
If I owned a operational panther tank I'd drive that around all the time personally
What is there to not like, just awesome! :-)
How big is this guys basement/! awesome toy collection.
What kind of basement did that guy have?!?!?!?
I hear the tanks going to a museum, but what I will not forgive is the felt the need to drag it out, screwing the suspension all up, when they could have just driven it out. But, I've heard the guy wants to take legal action, and I hope he does
That is GROSSLY UNFAIR. Give the old guy back his Panther G and let him finish restoring it. The other thing is they the Police should be forced to pay for the damage that they done to the Panther and propertyThese Panther G's are very rare, and to have it in running order is an accomplishment of his engineering skills. The Panther was one of the most rounded performing tanks of WWII, so please let this old man finish what he started after all it is his.
Nothing unfair, the owner probably should not have stepped away from being a criminal.
I hope the old fellow gets his property back. That's easily $6 million USD worth of war relics.
This is a historically significant find. The owner has significant investment in his Panther and other militarization that was confiscated. I hope he gets his property back instead of the state auctioning it off or putting it in a government museum.
If he really broke the law, I rather see it in a museum.
driving your car every day poses more of a risk to the public then this person owning a tank.
If it was fully operational, why did they have too take the tracks off and tow it out of the house?
+tandelou Probably because the recovery guys had now idea what they were doing.
After watching this video I was saddened to hear about the government showing no respect to a rare piece of history. According to the video the wheels and other parts of the Panzer were damaged during the removal. I'm sure they damaged his property as well when removing it. From other things I've read the people of the town were well aware of what he had and he would gladly allow you to go into his "museum" and see what he had. How many German 88s that are still in working order have survived the war? One of the most advanced weapons of all of WWII. How many are fully in tact and restored to their former glory? To me it is just a shame that he was not approached and treated with some semblance of dignity. If the government says it's not legal for him to have these items don't damage them as if they have no value. Whether you like it or not, these items helped to shape world history. It all goes back to the old adage "if you forget your history, you are bound to repeat it."
The neighbours in a report said, he used it to move snow.
Indeed he did Ben.
That must be one huge basement. Even though the gun tube was cut, it can still be fired, it wouldn't be wise for a couple reasons, but it would still fire. To restore it, the entire tube would have to be replaced.
How did he drive this tank without its tracks? hmmm. As usual, another theft by government. and how would a person get the 8.8cm rounds to fire the cannon? again, a tank that has no tracks, can't drive it anywhere. if he had an exorbitant amount of money, he could've fired a round out of the basement and collapsed the fireplace! haaaaaa!
Rob R you probably did not watch my whole video, and they probably did not take the tank because it had a firing gun, they took it because he had stolen nazi art.
In the next part of the video you can see the tank with tracks and the owner driving it out his garage.
The tank did not have tracks in the pictures because its easier to move it that way.
er try 75mm main tank gun mate...Panthers only where fitted with 75mm guns...
That is one hell of a cellar
.
Vinnie M indeed it was
Great video and information, Pity it wasn't the real thing but still love it. Panther is a beautiful beast. Hope the owner gets it back ,shame it was damaged...
Colin Kavanagh Thank you for your comment and I'm glad you like it.
no dude. this panther should stay with the owner. he built the fucking tank! you are not supposed to steal it. wtf is wrong with people!
He probably should not have broken the law and his house would not have been cleaned out.
no law allows government stealing property
+Bit Papadokostas they can here in Europa when you have illegal property.
Panzer Picture a tracked 80 year old 50ton vehicle which was saved from destruction and repaired using private funds is PRIVATE PROPERTY. you sir support thiefs and you should be put in jail.
+Bit Papadokostas that makes it even more stupid, he must have done a lot of paperwork to keep a tank like that in Germany and your lucky man if you can have one, then to F. it up for some art.
The owner of the tank was using it during winter. He used it to remove the snow from the road in the ares. That is wat one of the naibors was teling to the media at one point. He was a nice guy that simply gathert everithing for the fun of it.
And yes the tank had ben operational, but at the time the police cam it was not in runing condition. Also the traks were removed. You can even se that on the picures in this video.
BassDec McKenzie new information said that the tank was standing on iron supports and that the tracks were removed for repair.
a man after my own heart
so they stole it and destroyed the road wheels, I swear the worst crooks can never
be touched by the police simply because the law is woven into the crime.....😠
Jeremy Lovejoy they did not steal it, they were searching his house for stolen art and they found two rare bronze horses and they cleaned out his house.
Panzer Picture ahhh... OK, they should have at least put the tracks on to save the ONE OF A KIND road wheels
It was known that the Panther was there, so "found" is the wrong word and this is where the very sad part of this story begins.
I think in Texas it is legal to have that Panther Tank as long as you are not carrying it concealed.
Bill23799 Thank you for your comment and I want to see a concealed tank LOL
It's a king tiger with a henschel turret the tiger your talking about is a little smaller the king tiger came in two turret choices a henschel and a porche.it was powered by a v12 maybach engine.it had 4 inch thick steel on the face of the turret.the main cannon shot 88m shells.
They were afraid the old man was going to go through the Ardennes with his Panzer and single handedly defeat France.
*hope he gets his tank back and everything works out OK*
Now that is what I call being prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse.
lol
Probably the best tank of ww2 Hope the chap got it returned to him
