  • My thoughts on the Heikendorf Panther.
    ■History of the Panther.
    This Panther was built at the Panther factory Maschinenfabrik
    Niedersachsen-Hannover,Germany under the direction of the British Army REME.
    It was number four of the Panthers and Jagdpanthers built by the British.
    It was probably placed on a targetrange and then bought by a scrap merchant
    in a War Department sale in the 1950’s and remained
    in his scrap yard in Surrey, England,
    until it was discovered in October 1977. It was then recovered,
    in a badly damaged and incomplete state, and transported to Germany.
    It has since been restored to running order.

      4TRExEZz Private museum or not, that 75mm, and at least 2 MG-34's which would have all been active are dangerous weapons. The FlaK 88 too. The V1 however, could level the building if it were to go off

      Xavier Moavero Indeed if the bombs were active that would be a big hazzard, so without knowing there full story we can't really say that this was a unfair action.

    Nice, Germany. As if that man could purchase long 75mm shells anymore. Even if you found them, they would most likely be very dangerous to shoot.
    And the cannon. It was cut down, to assure no real compression to the shell. If it did fire, at all, if the breech was untouched, then the shell would literally fall out. It would not fire.
    I feel for this man.

    • @CrniWuk
      @CrniWuk Před 9 lety +7

      +John Grogan He might be allowed to keep it. If it is demilitarized correctly. It isn't forbiden to own a tank in Germany. It's just a problem when the tank can still be used to fire.

    • @TheWuerstchenwasser
      @TheWuerstchenwasser Před 8 lety +2

      +CrniWuk If you want to demilitarize a tank to keep it you have to make sure that NOTHING (not even the turret traverse ring) is operational, so to keep it. It must be completely disabled: No working engine, no working gun (breach, barrel etc), nothing

    Actually the tank was fully operational, including the gun. So it is a weapon of war and the ownership is not allowed. But: The owner wrote 1977 to the authorities to make sure, he doesn´t violate any laws. Officials came to the conclusion it is not operational any more and allowed him to purchase the tank and restore it. Years later the german army repaired the engine for him, when it was broken, charged 28,000 Euros and gave it back to him after repair. Still no one was caring about it´s fully functional weaponry. But suddenly after 50 years the authorities raid the home of an 78 year old because of violence against weapon of war control laws. So, who is the one to blame?

All the weapons were in usable condition and having been wrapped in many layers oiled paper. I did not realized that this story was going so far around the world.
    I am living near Heikendorf (5 kilometers away), also i heard of it really fast in the local newspapers.
    If you want trust the owner of this Panzerkampfwagen V Panther, the gun wasn't operational.
    His lawyer said this, the 88 FLAK was it too, the torpedo that they found wasnt.
    The german Army (Bundeswehr) was here to get the Panther out of his garage, like you show us.
    But they damaged the street really hard, so that it's nearly impossible to travel there by car or by bus, and it's not repaird right now.
    So-called, the owner used it in the german "Schneekastastrophe" (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schneekatastrophe_in_Norddeutschland_1978) to clean up the streets - and so many people knew that he had this tank - and thus had no problem (czcams.com/video/k_3vySF3vKA/video.html).
    I'm thinking that they should give him his tank back if its really unoperational and let him play with it, as long as nobody get hurt.

    Back in 1991 I worked with a machinist named Otto Shaefer. He was a German tank gunner in WWII. In 1944 he was in a Panther in France when he got taken out. He thinks it was from rocket firing fighter planes. His tank caught on fire when it was hit. He told me he got one of the crewmen out. He said he fell into snow and was captured by Americans that saved his life. He said he was in a hospital for a long time. Otto had terrible burn scars on his neck and arms. He told me his biggest fear was planes not allied tanks.

      The M-26 Was on line to be sent into combat by May 1944 The reason why it was never sent until the end, was the USSR!.. The US Army did not want the Russia to know we had a tank like that.

Apologizing would open them up to a potential civil suit so they will double down and hope the man just lets them keep what they stole from him.

They dragged the thing out. why not jack it up and put tracks on it/ then drive it out slow. It was running and working order. Hence why the guy looking at suing them for damage to panther, Jez they did not want to damage the house, but a priceless tank like the panther they will wreck the road wheels and suspension, plus damage fenders, ect. That is just insane, 2 army tow tanks, loads of army engineers and they cant get a million dollar tank out of a house without damaging it.

    After watching this video I was saddened to hear about the government showing no respect to a rare piece of history. According to the video the wheels and other parts of the Panzer were damaged during the removal. I'm sure they damaged his property as well when removing it. From other things I've read the people of the town were well aware of what he had and he would gladly allow you to go into his "museum" and see what he had. How many German 88s that are still in working order have survived the war? One of the most advanced weapons of all of WWII. How many are fully in tact and restored to their former glory? To me it is just a shame that he was not approached and treated with some semblance of dignity. If the government says it's not legal for him to have these items don't damage them as if they have no value. Whether you like it or not, these items helped to shape world history. It all goes back to the old adage "if you forget your history, you are bound to repeat it."
