  • Let's do this!
After a complete overhaul on the 1969 Norton commando, I'm struggling to fix the last details.
The Commando doesn't make it easy for me, neither the velocette ...
    I hope you enjoy it!

Nothing sounds as good as a Norton Commando. Love how you keep on going to find and fix the problems.

Beautiful Norton. When I got to 50+ years old I needed some work also.

Man you have some energy ! ( I remember those days !..haha ) But seriously , you put some Shops to-shame , they seem to struggle even with a few mechanics . I had a very-fast Atlas-750 when I was young , great-memories (it didn't stop very-well though ! ) You remind me of my friend (from Spain ) I haven't seen him for many-years now . Dave NZ

You remind me of Sisyphus pushing the boulder up the mountain only to have the boulder rolled back down the hill. It seems never-ending the ordeal you deal with with a Norton Commando.

It always boils down to the ability of the mechanic, and the resources available. They are all good when well looked after.

You can spend much quality time sorting out primary, gearbox, and isolastics on a Commando. Make sure the rear brake cable is in perfect condition: when they fail it’s immediate dismount! Learned that the hard way. I love these bikes. Too expensive for me now. Those bikes are a credit to you!

Great video, Once you get it all sorted out you will love it. They truly are good bikes. I have three and love them all.

What is the handlebar switch unit (headlamp, horn, etc.??) next to the clutch control? It is very tidy! Nice work, my second Commando was a yellow Roadster (built spring of '70).

Lots of little issues with your Norton , I'm sure you'll get on top it , I recently bought a 73 MK5 , tidy condition but needing a few jobs like , front stanchions , swingarm needs checking /bushes etc , just did a brake switch and new Headlight shell , bit of cool retro fun , Cheers .🙂

1:58 . . . YAH ME TOO ! ! Your right side idle jet is plugged. Take out the air mixture screw and you will see the jet at the bottom of the hole. If you shine a flashlight into the hole, you can see if the orifice is clear or plugged up. The orifice is 0.016 inches in diameter.

The smallest steel string on a guitar is a good tool for this!

Hello, the Velo primary chain in its genuine design will always be prone to leaking. I bought an aftermarket primary box and now it’s oil tight for a long time.

    some nice motorcycles.
on the Velo' the spring clip on the primary chain seems to have the open end facing the direction of travel, not good and makes comong off more likely.
With those primary case seals they are not good at sealing, if not doing long trips i don't uput oil in , just spray the chain with lube every 100 mls or so.
When checking rear chain tension do it with rider on m/c , Also, clutch lever should have a tad more free play so actuating rod is not under constant pressure which generates heat which softens hardened ends.

What happened to the video soon as you went for the test ride the screen went black?

I owned two of them and the ride was always fantastic. But to be honest, you never knew if you come back home without problems. The Quality of the components is a mess, the whole construction of this bikes is full of faults. The engine lasts 5000 miles with original parts. When you want to restore it properly bring all the inner parts of the engine and gearbox to the rubbish tip and start to invest with aftermarket parts from mick hemming for example. Most important improvement is a one piece crank, the original is a joke for every mechanic
