  • Turn on the news & what do you find? Poverty, racism, homelessness, gun violence, climate change. Bad news on bad news. How do you cope? Author Steven Dunn has a unique solution: cataloging moments of softness. From West Virginia to Vietnam and Denver to Mount Fuji, this curated collection of softness will renew your faith in humanity & inspire YOU to lead a kinder, gentler, loving life. Steven Dunn (aka Pothole because he's deep in these streets) is the author of two novels: Potted Meat (2016) and water & power (2018). Potted Meat was a finalist for the Colorado Book Award and shortlisted for Granta Magazine’s Best of Young American Novelists. It was adapted into the short film, The Usual Route, which played at the L.A. International Film Festival and the Houston International Film Festival, among others. Steven was born and raised in West Virginia, and teaches Creative Writing in the MFA programs at Cornell College and Regis University. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thank you so much! This is so beautiful and helpful. There really is “… an abundance of softness”. I will start keeping a catalog of softness too. This made me cry and warmed my heart. I appreciate you!

This came up random for me just now. Thank you, sir, for what you shared. You made me grateful to be alive today, you reminded me to call my 92-year-old mom today. I will share, and partake of, some softness today. Thank you🎈
