Extremely Helpful, Deserves way more likes. Instructions were extremely clear and it even shows you how to properly freeze transformation in the end which is very useful.
I stumbled upon this and wasn't going to follow along because I thought that it was too simple a model but I had some down time and decided to follow along. I've used Maya since 2020 and still learned something useful from this. Thumbs up and I have subscribed.
Happy to hear it was useful, I'm always learning new things from other folk,s
Seems like as you learn more you realize all the other things there are still to learn 👍
@@WhatMakeArt Absolutely. And your technique is far better than mine. Love your attention to details with the cup bottom and handle.
I love your workflow. It's obvois that you have quite some knowledge and experience. Gonna watch more of your tutorials in the future.
you explained really clearly and simplified most of the stuff so anyone can understand you deserve a lot of subs 👍
as a new to 3d artist, this is a very educating one. I'm impressed. Thamk you
Amazing job on this toutorial - simple easy and straight to the point... I love it. Even learned some new commands today. Thank you so much
Thanks, glad it helped with modeling in Maya
post any cool projects you make 👍
Thank you! This was my first project on Maya and it went well. Great video.
I just started using MAYA with this video for the first time.Thank you so much!!!
Merci ! C'est mon premier tuto sur Maya et c'était clair et précis !!! ;)
Life Saver. Thank you you help me learn and thanks for the shortcuts.
Thank you brother for 2K resolution. It's mean you think about us. You are the best!
thank you man!! had to choose a random object to render for my intro to 3D models class and I chose my coffee mug. Your tutorial helped me complete my low poly assignment in like 30 minutes!
Thanks! Would like to watch more maya tutorials from you.

@@WhatMakeArt Thanks!! I'm checking the list. That looks awesome. I'm going to go through all. I'd love if you could do tutorial on rigging if at all that's the subject for you.
There are a couple simple ball rigging videos in that playlist to get you started but I assume you mean character rigging
I have some character rigging videos I'm the worjs
The Bridge edge loop tool used like in this tutorial, is that possible in blender? I know Blender has Bridge edge loop, but I can't find a option to make the handle automatically?
the problem is the curves get changes when im trying to change position or to animate it how to solve this issues
Delete the history, but make a hidden copy first if you want to be able to edit it later
Will you do a tutorial on adding maps on that coffee cup?
@@WhatMakeArt like applying images and textures on the cup, I’ve finished my own cup, im just thinking of a design to add uv maps on
czcams.com/video/-KhoMBOqx0g/video.html
This shows the 3D cut and sew, not on a coffees cup but you would use the same technique and then put your image on the uv
I'll eventually make a uv tutorial for a coffee cup 🍵
Im faced with the issue of when I attempt to translate my mug in any direction, the curve of the handle seems to want to stay where I initially created it. It's pretty weird. I've tried connecting the two (mug and handle curve) but nothing seems to be helping. Any ideas? I am new to maya lol. Thank you!
After you get the coffee mug the way you want it, duplicate it and hide it so you have a backup, then on the one that you want to use, delete the history and freeze all the transformations and it should just become a normal mesh in Maya
3ds Max user getting into Maya here. Is all this use of keyboard shortcuts "the Maya way" to do things or are there more "Max" ways to do things? And the other way around, were there so many keyboard shortcuts in Max I never used? I was kinda comfortable with having a named button I could click on and then use whatever this button did. Maya reminds me more of ZBrush than Max. Give me your lights people!
Yeah, there are a lot of keyboard shortcuts in Maya, not required to use them but can make workflows go quicker
I think in Maya there are so many keyboard shortcuts to help with different use cases, some of the keyboard shortcuts I can't imagine ever remembering unless I did that action all the time, but there might be a workflow where you do that all the time and that keyboard shortcut saves you five mouse clicks
@@WhatMakeArt Thanks for the quick reply! I guess a cheat sheet in front of me will help for the first weeks. I can see Maya is powerful in modeling although I read many articles that say Max is better for modeling - like Maya is better for animation, but I think modeling is also powerful with Maya.
At 6:42, I can't see the curve in the outliner...There are the other stuff like defaultlightset and defaultobjectset though( I selected smooth path + curve and I am able to see the curve in wireframe mode)
Try clicking through the different options at the top of your menu, if it doesn't show up then you may need to reset your preferences
when i tried to delete the surface to create handle its becoming circle instead of hexagon. what should i do?
Pls am 2022 Maya and I can't do the handle as you said. They're it doesn't work with multiple objects
what do I do if when I use the bridge tool to make the handle it goes inside?
In the options on the bridge tool in Maya change the direction to custom and try the different settings for source and target + or -
For some reason, when I adjust the curve it doesn't change the shape of the handle. Does anyone have a way I can troubleshoot this? Much love!
how did ya move camera prespective?

I'm not sure that with such amounts of extrusions you have proper topology. However, for beginners, tutorial is nice!
Yes, many ways to go about topology in Maya, this method keeps everything as a quad, but there are other ways to make a coffee cup
why did you make quads at the bottom and doesnt it matter if you didnt connect rest of those vertices above and below??
Modeling with quads can help with subdivision and defamations in animation, granted this object wouldn't be deformed but it could be so just a good practice. Inside the mesh can be hollow so the vertices don't need to be connected together.
After you make your quads at 2:09 your cylinder divided into a grid but mine stays uncut. All the changes I made only remain on the bottom… I’ve been stuck for two hours idk how to fix this 😢
@@WhatMakeArt I did but the cut remains on the bottom of the cup ofr some reason... is there a setting that I messed up?
how did u select they X RAY mode for curve what is the key ....?
When you are in object mode press the number 4 on your keyboard and it will go to wireframe
There is also an icon in the toolbar that allows you to go to wireframe
I had to watch tNice tutorials video literally 7 tis to understand how the channel rack, softs, and tracks work. I can see why people either love
3D modeling can be a steep learning curve but rewarding once you get the hang of it 👍
When I move the cup, the handle gets twisted, how to solve this
Make sure your circles in the cup Handel were straight before the bridge and when moving select all of the cup
@@WhatMakeArt Actually I solved it by deleting the history when I was happy with my cup....thank you for the tutorial 😊
How to change back to be 'not smooth'? //weak english sorry
Press 1 for the default polygon mesh display (no smoothing)
Press 2 for cage + smooth polygon mesh display
Press 3 for the smooth polygon mesh display
why when I move the cup the handle deforms
czcams.com/video/1SXvWTiMkjs/video.html try deleting history and freezing transformations
is there a UV video
Not for the coffee cup but this is a general UV video czcams.com/video/8-TMjuvzZEU/video.html
And a UV cut and sew video czcams.com/video/-KhoMBOqx0g/video.html
what is shift periode ?
Pressing the shift key and the period key grows a selection in Maya. This can help make selections of faces or edges
Here is an Autodesk help article about growing selections in Maya help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2016/ENU/?guid=GUID-475A975C-DE5E-4D6A-AE60-D8B8E24F74E2
@@WhatMakeArt ohh now I get it.. I don't know the period key but I search it.. period key means (>.) This key right? Full stop key right
Can someone explain to me why after I made this cup, I checked my poly count and it was 14k? This was the only object I had selected and on my scene. There is no way my cup had 14000 faces.
I have figured out the issue, in case anyone comes across this again. I had pressed 3 and was in smooth mode. When I pressed 1 and went back to polygon mode, my poly count was 800. Thank you for this tutorial.
Glad you figured it out and thanks for sharing your solution with everyone 👍
please make short tutorials about 10-15 minutes each video maya for beginners to 50 videos.
Yes, I plan to make more Maya intro video tutorials for beginners

It's not in any of the tabs at the top? Do you have the attributes open? If You are working on a small screen such as a laptop. It may be off to the side
Can you medelling car bro?
Of course just add more polygons
will add a Maya car modeling video in the future 👍
Sir, I can use Maya software for free for the rest of my life. If I open a student account
You can use the educational version of Autodesk's Maya software while you are a student. I believe the license lasts for 3 years
@@WhatMakeArt Open a student account. But I can use the software for 3 years. But he said how to use it for the rest of his life.
@@WhatMakeArt Open a student account. But I can use the software for 3 years. But he said how to use it for the rest of his life.
The license doesn't last forever if you're not a student. It's meant for educational purposes and then when you are a working professional it is presumed that you will purchase the appropriate license
In the meantime you can use it as long as you are in eligible student according to Autodesk's terms
blender best
Blender is great at 3D modeling too, been meaning to do a coffee cup tutorial for blender as well
Wtf!! Maya is way easier than blender
Both have parts that are easier than the other but everyone will tend to prefer one or the other
transitioning from blender to maya, and let me just say... I hate maya lol
I use Blender and Maya and other 3D modeling software, each has its pain points and good points
Love the modifier stack in Blender
Love the Mash network in Maya
Most of the friction comes from needing to learn new muscle memory, but in the best to be good at the theory and concepts of 3D modeling and then you can use any software
Wow, is Maya just terrible for making models? I could make a cleaner object in 3D Studio in a 1/10 the time, with 1/5th the polygons.
Many different programs for making 3D objects, each have their use cases, sometimes one is better than the other
This is the clearest Maya tutorial I've watched, easy to understand. But this is the only Maya tutorial I can find on your channel 😭😭
