  • In this video I will be coving the CPS EasyHood Air Flow Capture Hood that I recently added to my arsenal. I still need to put it through a bit more testing but so far its pretty accurate. I would definitely recommend this product to any HVAC Service Tech that is looking for an affordable air flow hood for light testing and balancing its not precision instrument so don't expect dead on accuracy but it will get you in the ball park. Also at this stage the registers haven't been added yet but I plan on doing another video to compare with registers so stay tuned.

    Yea, i don't like those rotary vane anemometer type flow hoods, Alnor makes the best and uses a pito tube. Also grills over all the registers makes a big difference so all those readings without grills on are not going to be the same once the grills are put on, and you can't leave one off the system as airflow takes the path of least resistance it will affect readings on all the others. I like the hot wire anemometer but if I have to traverse a duct I might as well just use a pito tube, its cheaper and simpler and less money.

      @HVACTechKnowledgy  Před 3 lety

      Yeah I was looking at the Alnor as well. I believe the one I l was looking at had a hot wire array. But this little CPS Easy hood is surprisingly usable considering the price point. What is it in particular you don't like about them?

      Yea, as far as transversing duct, I'd use a hot wire but I think they cost more than pito tube and manometer and pito tubes and manometer are probably tougher.
      For a hood, I'd definitely choose one that uses differential pressure over that hood with a little van anometer in the center. Rotary vane anometers can be driven wildly by air current inside the stream leading to anomalous readings where as differential pressure take all that out of the equation by creating a slightly high pressure zone inside the hood itself and deriving cfm based on the static verses face velocity pressure. Basically a more accurate stable reading. I think the only inaccuracy of using a hood comes from That slight high pressure zone inside the hood itself but its so small as to be negligible.

    Your basing it's correctness off of the game animometer. A true flow grid seems currently the best way to know CFM at the filter or complete return. The vane animometer should not be the base for correctness. And I think the cps could possibly be the best for residential (low velocities) supplies. But maybe they should be used comparing percentages of total airflow and the calculated CFM percentages per register by manual D

    • @edwardzachary1426
      @edwardzachary1426 Před 2 lety

      And since residential supply's shouldn't really be over 170 CFM or something per manual d it's designed to be in that sweet spot. I don't really care after install if the duct is seeing exact designed airflow but if a 100 CFM supply and a 10 CFM supply have a ratio of .1 or 10 (ie 100/10 or 10/100) or the ratio of (individual design/total design) to (Individual measured/ total added supply measured) we can't know leakage with this though but if it's new a ductblaster can be factored in

    another thing on the testo it gives u fpm wich its amazing , the hood its a lot easier to use tho

      You can also do foot per minute with the CPS Hood as well. Appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching.

    Why would someone install the air handler service like that? They even had to convert it to horizontal right from left to make it harder to service.

  • @MariosACandRefrigeration

    i believe you need to check air flow with the registers installed.and also a good duct and coil cleaning,its probably cheaper to replace all the ducts than paying 7000 to clean.you add all the supplies for a total.

    • @HVACTechKnowledgy
      @HVACTechKnowledgy  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey, yeah I've used this easy hood to test with the registers and without and honestly it didn't make much of a difference, it may have been a difference of 2 to 3%. Also that dust in the ducts is just drywall as this is a new install.

    Do you have to change a setting to use it without the fabric hood (like I think you do for low flow mode)? I believe it is supposed to work without the fabric part.

    • @HVACTechKnowledgy
      @HVACTechKnowledgy  Před 2 lety +3

      Hey there, no you do not to change any settings when using it with or without the fabric hood. The only major difference is the fabric hood allows you to move it around in different positions i.e. I can Orientate the hood in any position and I’m still going to get the same approximate readings. if I tried doing that without the fabric hood they will be significantly different readings depending on the position of the hood on the register. You pretty much have to get it dead center to use it without the fabric hood to be accurate. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching!
