I remember when the Avengers Infinity War trailer came out. I literally watched it back like 5 times - even till this day I watch it - and I still had my jaw dropped. Even for a Marvel movie the plot, theoretically, should be easy to spot with knowledge from previous movies and/or the comics. But the one thing that I like about this trailer is that the plot was pretty well camouflaged (I mean the movie itself had more action then plot but oh well) and the fact that Marvel deliberately changes or hides things in the trailers just makes them that much better. I remember when I watched the Endgame trailer and I thought I knew exactly how the movie was going to unfold and I was pissed. Then I remembered that Marvel is notoriously known for adding unused scenes and changed things so I had hope that what I thought wasn’t true. Back to the Infinity War trailer. Not to mention that the big bad villain reveal was long enough to make it unsettling for those who knew the MCU. Talk about initial impressions. The score of the movie, insane and makes the trailer feel like a mini movie. All and all the trailer made me sooo impatient for the movie and made the movie so much better for me to watch, because of the attention to detail and length that Marvel goes.

Using Nick Fury's lines of "There was an idea..." and Thanos' monologue of "In time, you know what's it like to lose..." foreshadowed what will happened in Infinity War but it was hidden so well that I only realized it after watching the movie.
And the used of Avengers' theme song into slow and magnanimous orchestral beats compared to its original lighthearted version makes the stakes higher that it feels we're definitely going to a real war - the feeling of hype for guns blazing glory, anxiety of losing comrades, and the bitter taste in the mouth of the tradegy it brought

I think the trailer campaign for The Force Awakens (all 3 trailers) was MASTERFULLY done.
-They didn't spoil anything. Not even Luke Skywalker's story.
-They let us know from the get go the main characters were new, instead of trying to trick us into thinking the OT characters were going to be the focus
    -The music was used perfectly
-They even used some lines that were also a message for us fans ("There has been an awakening"="After 10 years, Star Wars is BACK", "It's true. All of it. = Everything we saw on these movies 40 years ago is still relevant in the world")
I really REALLY have to thank Disney for the amazing marketing campaign they're doing for this trilogy. It really transforms all the waiting into a part of the experience as well, it doesn't just last the two hours you see the movie.

@Snehil Shrey Ragnarok is exactly what it tried to be. It was a comedy. It had a few compelling moments, and had a story, but mainly it was a comedy. The problem with Age of Ultron was that it tried to have its cake and eat it too. It tried to treat Ultron as a massive, and serious threat, but when the heartless killing machine is making egg puns every few minutes, it takes down that feeling. The difference is mainly in what they tried to be. Ragnarok is a good comedy movie, but Age of Ultron is too scared to go too far into any genre.

You picked some fantastic trailers to dissect. Some of my favorites include:
    1. The Social Network - Waiting nearly an entire minute to show actual footage from the film was bold and got me hooked (same as the teaser poster was utterly devoid of everything but Jesse Eisenberg's face and a dozen words. I couldn't get it out of my head for days). So much is left to the imagination despite the dialogue and the cover of "Creep" is a perfect pairing. One of my favorite movies.
    2. Man of Steel (1st teaser) - The dialogue paired with the music and little footage from the film made me begin to care about Superman. Couldn't really care less about it now, but it was super effective following The Dark Knight Rises
    3. Suicide Squad - Talk about an amazing trailer for an otherwise sucky movie. Bohemian Rhapsody was the perfect pairing for the trailer footage. If only the rest of the film had been as good.

Then the Infinity War trailer came out...oh my gosh. My mind was blown, it looked so insane and nuts, so much crazy stuff happening, awesome heroes, an extremely menacing villain. I loved it. My absolute favorite trailers have to be at least the trailers for both Star Wars TFA and TLJ, but for different reasons. With TFA I was absolutely pumped with all the nostalgia that it gave off, whereas with TLJ I was more impressed with the trailer itself, in this case mostly it's darker tone, as I am a sucker for a bit Darker scifi or Fantsy movies.
Besides that there are a few obvious ones like for example the Logan trailer and the one for Rogue one, as well as a lot of other trailers released in the last few years.
I think the most important distinction I make in how I appreciate trailers is the difference between Nostalgia or the hype for a sequel and a trailer just being damn good. Even better when both hopes are met.

With the creepy music playing and seeing all the avengers beat up and also frightened of what they’re facing. You see Thor stumbling around unsure of where to go, you see hulk in that blanket scared out of his mind. It gives you a taste of the struggle our seemingly invincible heroes are going through on a psychological level, not a physical one. It doesn’t reveal the plot, gives you a taste of the villain. You also get the sense that this movie is going to have a drastically different tone than the previous avengers film. Personal best movie trailer: the first teaser for Man of Steel. We didn’t see the plot. We saw a young Clark Kent running around wearing a cape and playing with his dog and it ends with seeing him as Superman shooting up in the sky not really close enough to see the symbol or the actor playing Superman.
Best game trailer: Halo Infinite because it’s the classic halo trailer formula. It doesn’t show plot elements or key characters except Master Chief. It just showed off the new engine the game will run on showcasing the beautiful landscapes and wildlife until we see the helmet of Chief’s Mark VI armor and it plays the classic Martin O’ Donnell halo theme.
