- Hi Everyone, I am Siddharth Sirohi from New Delhi, India. I am pursuing my master's in Food Science at UBC, Vancouver campus.
In this video, I will show you my first rented apartment in Surrey. I will discuss the rent, utilities, and what to look for in an apartment while planning to move in. I will tell you how to look for an apartment under $450 in a high-rise building within walking distance from Skytrain, Walmart, staples, restaurants, and parks. I will also explain the major differences between living in Vancouver and Surrey. In the end, I will guide you on how to search and find such student housing in Vancouver and Surrey. The best way to look for housing is facebook marketplace, kijiji, and craigslist.

Hey, There were plenty of jobs. Currently, due to kindof recession, you will see less jobs but the ones that are posted will have a higher pay. So do not settle for anything less than $24-25 per hour. You could also move to Surrey Langley Abbotsford etc to widen your reach. If you need any help, let me know over instagram. Thanks.

Yes you can if you have some job oriented skill
To some extent, you can do it. It also depends on your fees ( some colleges have less fees so you could manage but universities have higher fees so difficult to manage). You can take a break to make more income for 4 months in between your course.

I work for IT company.
Rent is around 1800. Yes it is good for family. You don't need car if you stay here.

I used to like Vancouver but not anymore, so does my wife and so do my 3 daughters! The weather is why we plan to leave for good but also the expensive rents! I also heard about horror stories at many hospitals (and yes, I have worked in Africa and to be honest, Africans hospitals are way more functional than the ones in Canada in terms of human aspect… there they care, Canadians do not give a shit about anyone!!! I am saying this as a Belgian)! I have some African colleagues at work here and 80 percent of them either want to go back to Africa or move to Europe as soon as they get enough experience in canada)! Same go for most of my French colleagues as well who really want to head off back to Europe as soon as they finish their contract. Almost None of us at work , including me, want to retire or get old here in Canada and endure loneliness in a country that is far from Europe! None of us want to endure the triage way at Canadian hospitals or wait for months to get a surgery (in Europe, we do not have to face that) and beyond everything, None of us want to get pensions that can cover our cost of living… but for that, I have to come back to France or Belgium where it come from. So sorry Canada!

I have seen few adverts on Facebook marketplace, some private rooms cost around 500-600 in downtown Vancouver and several were just a den at 800. I hope people don't do fraud on these sites, please advise.

From what I've learnt so far, it's best to book a temporary accommodation for the initial days, and then search after you arrive in the city.

This one was Prime on the Plaza. There are many other condos available near Surrey Central Skytrain.

Chilliwack is quite far. Rent is around 1200 for 1 bed basement and 1400-1600 for 2 bed basement. Single room maybe around 600. Rent is slightly less than the Surrey area but not a major difference.

Yes, you can rent it. But the rents have gone up now. You can expect the same property in around 2000-2200 CAD. Thanks.

Basements in Surrey are $2000 now!
You can find 1 bed basement for 1200 and 2 bed for 1500-1600. You need to search well. Thanks.
