During the golden age of kung-fu in the 1970's, in the years between the demise of Bruce Lee and the emergence of Jackie Chan, Chen Kuan-tai was one of the leading martial artists in Hong Kong movies. It was the role of Big Brother Cheng in The Tea House and its sequel Big Brother Cheng that made him a major star. Chen is perfectly suited for the role of a Chinese refugee who settles in Hong Kong and establishes the tea house of the title -- but not before he gets involved with gangsters and is forced to display his considerable kung-fu prowess. It's not all fighting, for the tea house is also home to a touching romance between Big Brother Cheng and a young widow, played by Karen Yeh Ling-chi. Tough and tender, The Tea House is a landmark of the kung-fu genre.
