Probably, the deepest train station in the world, now no more in use, was in Italy. It was right in middle of the old Apennine Base Tunnel (1933). Named "Stazione della precedenze", it had 1863 steps to go up and down (roughly 1 hour walk). The old base tunnel is still in use, togheter with the new high speed base tunnel, but no trains stop there anymore.
New to the channel but I really love the sound/audio and the lack of voice over. This really brings out the ambience of the places you visit and makes eerything more relaxing/immersive. Than you very much for the video!
Mrs. Time to Travel, your nails are always so pretty ♡ The grey coloured tunnel is giving eerie vibes, looks like a well lit old mine to me but this was an interesting video, thanks for sharing with us!!
Eerie indeed. With the GoPro moving, no annoying voice-over, the water bubbling the stairs look more like something out of a computer game. Fascinating.
in russia and ukraine also have more deep stations but only in subway. Moscow Subway Park Pobedi (84 meters - Big Circle, and Solcevskaya lines) Marina Rosha (- Big Circle line - 70 meters) St.Peterbourg Admiralteiskaya (Purple Line - 86 meters) Kyev Arsenalnaya - (Red line - 105.5 meters)

Interesting algae are growing around the lights. Such a very strange halfway finished station. They went through through the trouble to connect to the tunnel and build a platform, but then not build an escalator.
It was not a railway station but a military object under the pretext of a public facility. And it is still a military facility. It was built in 1931-1936 (the exact date is unknown) before WWII and was extended in the 1960s. It is still, as you can see, being maintained. Take a look at the typical bunker ceilings, cable routing and even stairs. The location is also interesting: there is *nothing* around that would be a strategic target to attack. This "station" is in middle of nowhere. What is/was really in there is unknown.
It would be very fitting with what I understand about the culture to leave that small stream running next to the stairway permanently as a feature. Perhaps add some pools to it with koi at intervals on the way down. The water infiltration is not a problem that will ever go away, it can and will only get worse, might as well integrate it as an architectural feature.
Hi there. Amazing video! The Doai Station tunnel is similar to The Third Tunnel of Aggression found underground at the border between the North Korea and South Korea, which has more or less the same depth underground. I'm not sure if you agree with me. I'm a bit claustrophobic but I was able to overcome this challenge for the first time when I entered this tunnel. If only the local government of this prefecture hire some artists to paint this underground with interesting anime characters, or any form of graffiti. It will be a hit for tourists, making this area popular again, boosting the economy of this place. Just my opinion. But what do you think? Thanks for this video by the way. Keep it up!
In Montreal, we will soon have a station that is 70 meters deep. Access to the platform will be done Via elevators. Assuming that there are no more delays, It should open next year.

Why is the station so deep underground? Is it to avoid severe terrain contours at ground level? Interesting location outside of town. Thank you enjoyed.
Japanese society is on a different level. The station is old and quiet but still very well maintained and clean. in the hallway there is also no graffiti and bums. In Java, places like this have become a favorite of the homeless and will not be maintained.

Watching what kind of subway is in Tokyo, you begin to appreciate the subway in Moscow. In our metro it looks like an underground palace or castle. If someone has not seen the Moscow metro, I advise you to look on the Internet!
@@erikgstewart I guess, yes. The Moscow metro is built to simultaneously serve as a bunker/shelter, because the Moscow metro was built during the Stalin period. Even the conflict in Ukraine has shown that the Stalinist metro is not only very beautiful, but also ideal for shelter. And also the advantages of the Moscow and Minsk metros are that you can use free Internet there, there is a good connection even at great depths, and there are also shops and cafes. Many American or Japanese subways do not have this. And trains are more modern.
It’s definitely a interesting piece of history that is still active. But as someone who is claustrophobic, I don’t think I’d be comfortable enough to not have my anxiety spike up (I can barely hold myself together when it comes to using the Metro when traveling out of town).

No elevator or escalator?! That's nuts hahah. I'm glad your destination was underground so you didn't need to walk back upwards!!!
Even more so when you realize Japan is an ageing society, especially in the more rural areas like Gunma.
