I rode my Onewheel in the bike lane for the first time the other day to get to a safe crossing and I found myself shouting “BICYCLE RIGHTS!” lmao and I forgot where I got it from… I kept growling “Carrrs mannn.. Whyyyy??!!” NGL it was scary as shit.. I respect bicycle riders a ton, even as a motorcycle rider I still think bikes are scarier. My city no one bikes either, most dumbfucks don’t even know what the bike lane is actually for, no one is expecting bikes… it’s awful and terrifying, just a tiny painted line between you and 40mph traffic which means 50mph cars… because who actually does the speed limit…
+WhenILearnToMilkIt I sometimes laugh on the road just thinking back to that line I know I must look insane to other drivers, just laughing at a red light
@@New_Orleans_Ghost_Hunter it's been five years since I left that comment and I still don't have a license ✌️😎. I'm sorry you don't understand the concept of laughing at yourself
The severe abrasion makeup (at least I assume it is just makeup for the purposes of making this video clip) on the right forearm at 0:47 is a very clever touch. Perfect. Hilarious. 🤣
Yea, road rash lol, I'm sure it was intentionally put there, and just for a second for those paying attention. These are more about the context than the actual topic
i like how this sketch includes both of their favorite characters Fred and Carrie play. Toni makes an appearance @ 0:57 . theyre both my favorite characters too
+Malcolm Nicoll Are you comparing the two? At 40 seconds he's on NW Flanders St. between 13th and 14th aves. IE, the Pearl District of Portland, like it says when you see the Powell's book sign.
+Malcolm Nicoll it's any city with a large bike commuter population. Philly, for example. The parts where he shouted "bike bike bike", pointed out a nonexistent bike lane, and told someone the bike distance rule I have all personally witnessed
He has a recurring role on the show as the Mayor of Portland. Earlier there was a reference to the fact that he bikes to work "to set an example" for everybody else in the city, and this was a reference to that.
Wrong wrong... just trolling cuz you love hate. Look close, it *is* a fixed gear. No brakes on the handlebars, no rear brake hub, and a single sprocket in the front and rear. Freeze frame at 0:46 - sure looks like a fixed to me Just chomping to hate on anybody. Smh
I was born and raised in Detroit, but I currently live in Seattle. Needless to say, my midwest (east coast by time zone) sensibilities do not agree with PNW ways. This Portlandia show is hilarious and seems to have helped soften me up to the crazy ass mind set of this region. Love it!
I just recently found this show on Netflix and everything about Portlandia show is so accurate on what goes on in the Northwest states. Shout out to Lacey, WA my second home away from home.
It's what happens when cyclists think they're pedestrians. If they applied motorist thinking, they'd be on the road, where they're supposed to be, and they wouldn't run red lights.
I love that it's meant to be a fixie and in most shots it actually is (never seeing Armisen's face, of course), but in the one shot you see him from the front AND cycling, he's coasting on the freewheel.
This skit was my inspiration for yelling nice things at people while i was riding my fixie today in the snow in Boston. People were looking at me and thinkin 'wtf. what the hell did that a-hole bicyclist yell at me'. Biiiiiiicycle raceeeeeeeeeeeee. HAHAHA. Thank you Mr. Armisen for such a memorable skit that I can relate to.
For me, the most genius moment of the show was when Carrie told J Mascis that he was ''Too loud'' - even though his guitar wasn't plugged - and threw him off the stage, and he stood far in the background playing to himself.. I had the honor of standing 3 meters from him and Dinosaur Jr. on a show here in Tel-Aviv - and the guitar wall of sound that he created was the loudest I've ever heard live!
+drtijeenz - It was NOT the actual Mayor of Portland; it's Kyle McLachlan playing a fictional Mayor. The guy who was actually Mayor at the time (Sam Adams) sometimes appeared on the show as the Mayor's assistant; McLachlan even calls him "Sam".
Nailed it haha. KHS Flight 100, risers, Velocity Deep V, top tube pad, cycle cap, messenger bag..Vans. I wonder who let them borrow the bike and actually has sense of humor enough to laugh at themselves.
@0:17 "Ya gonna turn - ya gotta tell me! WHERE ARE THE BLINKERS? that stick to the left of your steering wheel is easy to use and helps not only cyclists, but pedestrians and even other drivers too.
Have to admit as a Portlander for over 15 years I wanted to laugh at this show but so far not so much but THIS?! Yeah... this clip is funny! Totally my experience :D
Haha, this is great. People wouldn't hate bike hipsters so much if they had a sense of humor about it. Fixed gears are fun to ride, you don't need to justify yourself, just don't get your ego wrapped up in it.
As a driver, I have seen so many dicks on bikes be dicks on bikes. Some people on bikes are just people on bikes-- like anybody else doing their thing. But certain types of bikers can be so in your face and self-righteous in the most obnoxious way. This is spot on.
It's television. He's riding two different bikes. There was definitely a skid stop, however, it was most likely a stunt double on a different bike than the one Fred's riding in the rest of the clip. Most likely he's meant to be riding a fixed gear, and the section of the clip where he's coasting was a mistake.
Hahaha. That was hilarious. You remind me of myself on my bike after a few drinks yelling at people and cars except for the end of the video that made me want to cry for you.
I ride my bike to work and back everyday, I have the luxury of doing that since my job is only 1 mile away, and I can't tell you how many times I've acted this way lol.
Seems to me he was only doing about 7-10mph at the time (the movement of the camera makes it seem faster) but you can see that there are definitely no brakes. Enough sideways force on the wheel if it is rotating at low speed will bring it to a stop quite quickly. Also note that the bike is not actually shown to stop completely, merely slow down (the rear wheel is still turning as the camera cuts, and the cyclist has begun to pedal again).
It never ceases to amaze me how many hipster stereotypes they can cram into one sketch.
They didn’t show the biker trying to balance at the stop light

watching this as a kid, laughing. watching this as an adult who lives downtown with only a bicycle, trauma activation.
The ear in the door chain gets me every time
I am so obsessed with this show, SO GREAT!!
If he were on fixed gear he could have gone backwards and saved his ear, you're not a real bike nazi in Portland if you're not on a fixie.
I take it this same thing happened with your gauge earring.
+Captain Phobos dont even have to "stop" on a fixie, just go back and forth like theyre squishing a bug with a jittery wheel shake

Yes, but as you may recall from this clip czcams.com/video/YlGqN3AKOsA/video.html, he abandons his fixie when he realizes it's "over".
