How to Eliminate ALL ODORS with an Ozone Machine

  • There is a lot of confusion in the air purifier market between air ionizers, air purifiers and ozone generators. They all have their respective place, but it is best to know what they are intended for. Ionizers are generally the same as a typical air purifier in that they have several layers of filtration to clean your indoor air. They differ in the fact that they attach negatively charged ions onto positively charged dust and allergen particles. By attaching to the dust, the negatively charged ions cause the particles to drop out of the air in front of your ionizer unit. Your car’s HVAC system is similar to a regular air purifier as it has a filtered element at the beginning of the HVAC unit (outside & recirculate) to clean the air as best as it can, but it doesn’t kill any bacteria or bad odors.
    Ozone generators on the other hand, are not air filters. There are basically two methods of producing ozone; through ultra-violet or corona discharge. Corona discharge creates ozone by applying high voltage to a metallic grid sandwiched between two dielectrics. The high voltage jumps through the dielectric to a grounded screen and in the process, creates ozone from oxygen present in the chamber. Ultra-violet (UV) light creates ozone when a wavelength at 254 nm (nanometers) hits an oxygen atom. The molecule (O2) splits into two atoms (O), which combine with another oxygen molecule (O2) to form ozone (O3).
    If you were to smoke in your car, or spill something, it will leave a scent behind. No matter how much you spot clean or shampoo your interior, there will always be traces of it left behind. The typical, yet improper way to make the interior more pleasant is to buy air fresheners to MASK the scents. Air fresheners add an initial strong fragrance to the air, which is more powerful and pungent than the original smell, but they eventually will wear off and the smoke smell will be back in no time. Putting an air freshener in your car is a short time band-aid to a problem. There is only one PROPER way to remedy the problem, and that is by using an Ozone generator.
    Buying one of these Ozone generators will cost you much less than hiring someone to do it for you. Given you watch this video and follow the precautions, you will be able to safely remove odours from your car. Buy the tool once, and have it for life.

    Tips: Turn on the car and run recirculated air.... Yank out all of the seatbelts fully.... open the center console(s).... open the glove box... pull down the mirrors.... stand up the floor mats on the floor to allow for air circulation underneath.... don't run the OG right after detailing with shampoos, cleaners, scents, armor all, etc. because the OG will attack EVERY smell in the car and you want it to fully focus on the main source of the problem: i.e. cigarette smoke

      You can vacuum first, but don't spray anything at all in the car before the ozone generator. The ozone generator will cling to ANY smells in the car, so any sort of deodorizer you spray will be 100% counter-productive.
      Clean the car, vacuum it out, run the ozone generator, then do whatever else you need to do......period.

  • @JohnClulow
    @JohnClulow Před rokem +3

    As you said, ozone is quite toxic. The odor threshold is just 0.1 ppm and according to NIOSH, that's a harmful level to be breathing in for any significant time interval; a few seconds may be OK but not a few hours. Activated carbon (not just charcoal) can be effective as a respirator medium if you have to work in it. But using the methods you suggest, everything should be fine without that. I would not do this in my garage or any enclosed space but rather outdoors to make sure that any ozone released doesn't get into my living environment. When the O3 molecule breaks apart, free radicals (unpaired electrons) are generated and they are highly reactive at an atomic level and that's what makes this so aggressive in attacking odor-causing (potentially airborne) organic molecules that can get into your nose and create an olfactory nerve response the brain registers as a smell perception. Such compounds are going to be low enough in molecular weight as to create enough vapor pressure to be smellable.

    I think the procedure is fine but I would NOT do that inside a closed garage! Better do this outdoors, or keep the garage door open all the time. Also be very careful when approaching the vehicle and opening the doors after the machine has been shut down! Ozone is very toxic and can irritate your lungs badly. Wait at least one hour before sitting in the vehicle to drive it away, and this is after you opened all the doors to let the ozone go away. Ozone progressively turns into oxygen and every 30 minutes or so, half of the original ozone has disappeared. So the longer you wait, the better. Also, temperature has an effect on the speed with which ozone breaks down into oxygen. Thanks.

      @Steven-kq6rw Před 3 lety +1

      You just need to run the air conditioning with recirculation mode on. That takes the ozone from the car interior and runs it through the ducts. If you have a leak or something though, you will need to get that repaired to stop future mold from growing.

    Suggestion for erata: Halftime for O3 in air at room temp is 25H, not half an hour. Half-time in water is 10-30 depending on temperature. The ozonemashine just uses a bit of electricity. Just ventilate well afterwards, as ozone may damage eyes and lungs if concentrated. Can also be used to exterminate bugs!

    You should have the ignition on and the AC set to recirculate with medium/high fan speed. Connecting a battery charger is a good idea while you do this.

    Someone I know with multiple chemical sensitivities like me did ozone treatment on a smelly used car and it got worse. Maybe the machine was run too long and the Plastic materials also broke down releasing toxic byproducts. I ran my machine for 3 hours twice on a small office space and it took our the smoke smell. Def be careful and not run it too long.

    Thank you so much for this informative video. Purchased a pre-owned 2016 Ford Focus SE ten days ago from a Toyota dealership. Car looked like new. Three days later opened the door to meet a friend for lunch and the stale smoke odor emanated from the car. It has been masked for two days. I was actually sick as I am allergic to fresh and stale cigarette smoke. I contacted the dealership but received a run around. Said I could bring it the following Tuesday as they only do smoke removal on those days. The dealership is 25 miles away and I had no way to get back home. My vehicle has been sitting in the drive. I have viewed numerous videos but this is the only one that has given me hope. The car is already detailed. All I need to do is remove the smoke. Will order from Amazon and PRAY.

    Hi everybody. I just bought ozone generator 3.5g/h to use in car. Do you know is it safe to plug it in to 12v to 220v power inverter? Generator is only 55W and inverter is up to 300W so technically it should be possible. But my concern is safety. Is ozone flammable or explosive in case of electric short. I see everybodys using external power source through the window.

    I can verify that this machine works, actually I purchased a bigger one for my house. I had a mold smell due to hurricane Ian back in 2022 and after just 4 hours of this machine being on it removed all those smells. No one can be in the home during this and this includes live plants and animal. Then you need to air it out for a day, they say 2 hours, and I guess that's cool but there was a distant smell. It's also good to run the central air fan if you have that system in your house because it clears out the odors from the duct work as well.

      @@22chachalaca The guy at the store recommended that I run it for 4 hours. That was exactly the time it ran for. I had to remain outside the home for a solid day after turning it off. The mold smell has not returned, and it really saved my house, no doubt.

    I am running that exact model as we speak in a truck I bought. i have no idea if the person who owned it never heard of a shower or if they had rabies and were afraid of water but an entire can of lysol, two cans of OZIUM, an entire bottle of febreeze and it did not touch this smell it was horrendous and this was after a professional detailing. I am so hoping this works it has 10 minutes to go I sat it on 35 minutes roughly. *Update* After using the device I can no longer smell the odor of unwashed butt, crotch, fast food, and wet dog but the one issue I did run into is that in the summer it is so humid that getting the ozone to air out is a bit tricky when the air is as thick as pea soup even with fans. Unless you live in an area where it is always humid like here I would recommend doing this on a dry hot day. When it totally vents out I will see if that smell is gone. If it is this will be a miracle machine. Second Update: After the ozone smell was gone and in the hot sun the smell returned. I pounded it 4 more times and it did not go away.

    Will it work on one of those cars that someone smoked constantly in for years? I have a hard time believing anything would get that out.

    • @the-dullahan
      @the-dullahan Před 3 lety +1

      If done correctly, then yes. How long they smoked in the car isn't really changing the volume of contaminants that a given surface can hold, and also the chemistry of oxidization will work the same, regardless of the age of the smell.
