How to Fix SONY Android TV Not Turning On! (Main Board Swap!)

- I picked up a Sony Bravia XBR55X810C for FREE that stopped working and challenged myself to see if I can get it working. Symptoms include no power on plugging into the wall and testing turning it on. Power board in standby showed voltages just fine. After swapping power board, TV stayed off. After swapping MAIN board, TV is alive again!
How to fix:
1. Remove back cover
2. Test voltage of power board with cord plugged into wall
3. Order appropriate board
A. No voltage on power board? Replace that
B. Yes voltage on power board? Probably main board issue
4. Swap the board
5. Put it back together
6. Should turn on. Good luck!

Hi Edward, my model is XBR55X810C, dead LED light (everything appears dead). How can I first eliminate the Power supply? I’m reading 3V only on the 3rd and 4th pins on the button row of the main 14x2 pin connector # CN6401.

A question: Did you need to update the firmware on the replacement board or was this a plug-and-play situation where the new board worked immediately without needing to download an update from Sony and the TV was immediately operational after the replacement? 👆🏻 exact same question I had! Thanks for asking. Just went back to a TV repair shop and rescued my TV. They wanted $400 to replace the motherboard. When I told them I found the part online for $89 and I would just assume do it myself, they tried to scare me with updating firmware and downloading who knows what. 🙄 I’m taking my chances and buying a used part on eBay. :)

i have a sony tv kdl 43w800c model which is blinking 3 times in color red, i swap the main board but the result is green and orange color 11 times and no display , then i make firmware update thru usb /flasdrive but still no display, please help me how can i fix it, also fyi i have formatted the usb in fat32 is it correct i want to know. plss.

nice video ..quick question did you have to update the firmware on the new main board? i have a 65-a8f had a power surge no lite no nothing. i replaced the big power supply board still nothing. getting ready to order a used main board any suggestions? tks
Didn't have to update the firmware. Check the other boards for swelled capacitors or potential burns. If inclined, there are pins you can test voltage.
Thank you I should have check this out 2 years ago when I had a technician replace it for $500, I did mention to him that I'm basically paying a 250$ subscription fee to Sony every year. We'll time to pay it again...or buy something that is not going to fail every 2 years.

Absolutely. The boards are similar to computer boards (thankfully). Some of the manufacturers are more insane and link them, where programming gets harder.

Not sure about service mode. Stay with the 55 inch board.

hSony KD-55XF7596 Bravia and have just changed the Mainboard. i am in a mode which changes Color Red,Blue green and white + Music . I guess the motherboard is new . Do you have am idea what i can do? Thanks in advance

Update firmware.
FYI Sony has very good customer service. Always ask for a supervisor and be nice. I have seen Sony extend warranties on some of there tvs that were up to a year out of warranty.

HI thanks for the great info . We have a Sony XBR 85X 850D which was working fine in the morning but when we came back from work was dead and no power or light will come on . We were able to take off the back cover . Noticed there are 4 boards in the back . Tested the 1st board using the multi meter and verified the 110 AC coming in and out . But the 2nd board which we think is the 2ndry power board had 110 Volt coming in but we couldnt verify voltage going out . Now we couldnt test the 3rd( some kind of green tuner board) and 4th board (main board ) . We are in the process of ordering the 2nd power supply board but would like to know how to test the 3rd and 4th board . Any insight in this will be helpful . Donot wanna junk the TV as its just 4 years old and was working fine before went to mars

Hey man, i have a kd-49xh9505 and just on the hottest day of the year (25°c currently) my tv won't turn on, it boots on the android tv logo but the tv turns off and there's 4 red blinking lights, i tried several alimentation cycles and checked the boards on the back but i cannot diagnose what the problem is, i'm suspecting it's a overheat problem perhaps ? the tv is 3 and a half yo at this point, i have no way of checking the voltage on both of my boards sadly, any help is appreciated
if you leave the back open and blow a fan, does it work?

I have a Sony Bravia XBR-65X850C. I just put a new main board in it yesterday and it fixed the issue. Tv came on. All worked good. I then powered off. Unplugged, setup on stand went to turn on. White light illuminates but no backlight or screen comes on now. I then did the software update using usb and after the white light finishes its flashing process at the bottom it then stays solid but still no screen illuminating. I do hear sound if i hit the source button on TV ill get a chime that comes from the speakers. What did i do wrong ugh

Chip eMMc was folty on board. You need replace only this if you can. No need new board.
Questsion! I think my xbr75x900f needs a new power supply board (blinks red 3x and turns off on its own)
I can get a board for 75$ but the shop said even tho it’s plug and play… Sony parts require programming… you don’t do programming in your video… so are they lying? Should I just order one and try?

hi i have a sony KDL50W800C no power at all dead tv . i changed power supply board doesnt worked . my power cord have 19 V when i unplug between PS board and Mainboard the backlight goes on . its looks like mainboard issue ... i bought a new one and still doesnt work ........

the issue was finally the mainboard . i bought the PSboard but it was defect lol .. i bought a mainboard and put back my old powersupply board and now working

I have Sony XBR-75x850c tv. One day everything is dead. The TV does not come with standby light. I checked one of the two power supply boards. The one with standby 3.3v I got it but not 12V on other pins. Does it mean this board is bad?

You are life saver. Key was standby voltage. You are the best! From a Taiwanese with appreciation to you!
LOL, I had to buy a remote because I assume this TV was going to be trashed and I threw remote away. Amazon, $10.

My 65" A8H won't turn on after 10 months of owning it, and I watch no more than 2 hours per week.
Exactly the problem I had after a year and a half. You were still in the warranty period though, so I guess they fixed it.
I'll try ordering the main board now.

Hi Edward, great video. I think this video brings out a really bad and poor design choice by Sony engineers, not allowing the replacement of the power cord. Why have they taken this poor decision? which benefits?

CZcams "Sony TV Hard Reset". Many times, here are the steps:
1)Unplug TV for 2 minutes. Keep unplugged.
2)Hold down the POWER and the VOL - bottoms for 30 seconds. (Keep holding)
3)Plug TV back in and hold until system powers back up.
That should reset your TV to factory settings.
