Michael Praetorius 1571 - 1621 a German composer, organist, and music theorist He was one of the most versatile composers of his age, being particularly significant in the development of musical forms based on Protestant hymns, many of which reflect an effort to improve the relationship between Protestants and Catholics

i remember my childhood at school as we paint while i hear this music!!! excuse my english is bad because i live in Chile i need more practice, thanks, but i love this music !!
There are a lot of Trouvere and Troubador songs that are recorded in a couple of large manuscripts which date from the 12th-13th centuries and at least two thirds of them have accompanying melodies. There is a lot of medieval music out there, you just have to dig around for it.
In deed, this is from the later reneisance. This particular piece called "branle de la torche", means "torches dance". About the music, was composed in d minor armonic, but in the end transformed in D major.
hello, i would like to ask a question , could you tell me how to search in you tube this kind of music? but exactly this kind, not celtic, or movies songs tracks you know. thankiou.
Będąc na wizycie w Twierdzy Malbork dokonałem kolejnego skromnie odkrycia, że rycerze niemieccy dbali nie tylko o swoje powołanie zakonne ale o dobro imienia całego chrześcijańskiego świata. This is true, that the majority is liturgical (all those saints and feasts had to have thousands of chants), but the amount of non-liturgical music surviving from before 1400 is large and interesting enough to deserve much more attention paid to it!
wtf, how did they have such good sound quality when recording music back in the middle ages? isnt that like around the year 1000? but recordings from the 1920s have such bad quality. is this some forgotten technique?
Acoustic changed to electric recording between 1923/1925. Commercially in 1925 electrical process antiquated the acoustical method. Late 1920s recording can be very rich and with full bass of course this process was even more developed in the 1930s RCA High Fidelity Noiseless Recording. That's so funny! I like your joke about recording music 1000 years ago!
I've started a list and here's a bit of it, of composers who are descended of Normans somehow .. such as having a Norman surname. Daniel Purcell (1664-1717), English composer, younger brother to Henry Edward Purcell (musician) (1689-1740), English composer Henry Purcell (1659-1695), English composer Daniel Belknap (1771-1815), early American composer
we should make clear that such music was common in france, Italy and England. the rest of Southern europe, eastern Europe, And celts had a little different music.Germany was influenced by all of them. Also, this music is not exacly medieval. Praetorius was born in 1571
The Curé had so exhausted my aunt that no sooner had he gone than she was obliged to send Eulalie away. “Here, my poor Eulalie,” she said in a feeble voice, drawing a coin from a small purse which lay ready to her
Nice music ... but not everything which is old is from the Middle Ages ... This is "Bransle de la torche" from "Taenze aus Terpsichore", late renaissance court music (1612) ... definitely not medieval, like omegastar19 already pointed out!
A martial tone to this music. Still very beautiful, like travelling through to a time when we were closer to a simplicity and natural life.
A useful reminder that the real values of life have always been accessible and still are.
This music is beautiful, there's something about it that's sacred
I like it too! The pipe, the flute, the lute make beautiful natural sounds! Simple and beautiful music for human!

Praetorius was a late renaissance / early baroque composer!!!!!!! (1571/1621) Oh my Gosh!
Was thinking that.
Sure as hell he was, and a damned good one at that! Musicians, play!
How would it all modernize with Bach beneath the Holy Roman Empire?
Thanks a lot for this information !
1:36 now let's play it a little faster and I want you all on the dance floor!

Renaissance. Definately in my top 10 favourite words.
Because of the more sophisticated polyphony, melodic line and cheerfull character it is indeed!!! :-)

To nie jest muzyka średniowieczna, to jest muzyka ze schyłkowego okresu renesansu.

Only my peeps from 1620 get this jam.
"Would be the very quality of the music itself."?

great, wonderful music, but it's not from the Middle Ages. It's from Michael Praetorius' 1612 work "Terpsichore".

@jpannonius It's Bransle de la Torche.
Middle Ages? Lol, not really.
Modern Age I'd say.
this is actually Renaisance music :)
This piece was played in The other Boleyn girl
Like it - but more Tudor/Elizabethan than Middle Ages I would say?
The word is Baroque. He was a German so he had nothing to do with the Tudor dynasty or England for that matter.
i agree

it's music that dates from the 16th century, so there's no copyright. so you could use it in a game.
