Yellowbird was a TV advertising campaign that Northeast Airlines used. They painted their planes yellow to go along with it. The ad included the Yellowbird song.
Ignoring people with elevator music piped through headphones on a flight- it seems like we as a society do anything to avoid small talk with strangers on a shared form of transportation, and it is apparently nothing new; We just get more options on how we do it.

So I think I figured out why there are so many renditions of Yellow Bird on this tape. NEA is Northeast Airlines, not New England Airlines, and their planes were called Yellowbirds due to their white and yellow livery. You can search for and find their old print ads that state this. Maybe Yellow Bird was their branding jingle at the time. Couldn't find any audio/vid ads to prove this, but it would make sense.
I had thought of Northeastern at first, but since UAL was the ICAO for United I had figured NEA had to be the ICAO as well. Your conclusion makes more sense though.

F&T did their own rendition and it doesn’t sound too far off, but i think its more likely to be Nick Perito, especially since he worked with the duo and was also featured on muzak demo vinyl and Ferrante and Teicher never were.

Yeah, that is extremely odd to have the same tune appear on the same tape so many times. Maybe the program director was really in the mood for "Yellow Bird."

these were in house custom recordings so more than likely the arrangers never published there works outside of the corporation… every now and again someone like lester lanin will have one of his muzak pieces show up on a record that wasn’t released until 30 years after muzak reeled its last tapes. this particular recording, im not sure exactly of who the arranger is, but im leaning towards Dave Terry or Jane Jarvis, both of which pretty much never released their works for muzak anywhere outside of muzak
Due to this arrangement being similar to Sid bass' arrangements of You Make Me Feel Someone and Honey Come Back (both of which are on this tape). This is likely more of Sid bass' work. He probably also arranged That Same Old Feeling which is also on this tape. edit: this is just speculation
