    Awesome Video! I have friends from the US coming to visit me in December. They are going to spend 7 days between Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh, and I will basically be their tour guide. I have been running through your videos, and they are really beneficial and have taught me a lot of stuff about Egypt even though I am a local. I have two questions if I may. Are there packages less than 30 days or would you recommend the 30 days packages even if they are stayin for a week? also, is it cheeper for egyptians ? because if so i can buy them as mine to save them some money :D . I truly thank you for the great content!

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Před rokem +1

      Ehelen! Wow 7 weeks, that's a good amount of time, awesome! The packages that somebody buys will last 30 days (or 28, something like that) before it will need to be renewed. So in answer to your question, no, there is not a one week package. It's all about how much data you buy and how much you need during the time you will be using it. So if someone was just here for one week, I wouldn't buy a large package (meaning: a package with a large amount of data) as they will likely not use it all. I don't know if it is cheaper for Egyptians, but you could go in and ask them the prices. If they offer you a price less than what I was offered, let me know! 😅I would be curious to know if they were charging me more as a foreigner. I don't think they were...but you never know. 😆 Thanks for watching!

    This may seem silly but I’m a little confused on the e-sim cards. I live in the states and I have Verizon. Am I not just able to call my carrier for them to put an international plan our phones? 😅 I should mention we will be there for a week.

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! Last time I checked, E-Sim is not available and doesn't work in Egypt. But yes, you can just pay for an international plan with Verizon, it's just going to be more expensive than if you were to buy a local SIM card with data here. If you don't care about saving some money, then buying the international plan through your home company is fine, and one less thing you have to do when you land (although getting a local SIM is not complicated or hard, they have kiosks at the airport that put the SIM in for you, you just have to pick the package size you want which is displayed on little cards like a menu).

      Thank you Sherif! That's so awesome to hear you're making it back here, that's a long absence! Wow wow, exciting. Quick advice?....Jeez, I dunno. Since you're actually Egyptian I feel awkward giving any advice, even though it has been a long time since you've been here, I would feel like an imposter or ridiculous giving advice to you😅You have family here and speak Arabic, I assume? You understand the culture, I presume, as well. I don't think I have much advice for you, because you probably already know it! Uh, bargain a lot and don't get ripped off....? I think most Egyptians can tell when someone has been away a long time, or even they can tell if an Egyptian is well off (monetarily), and some will try to charge tourist prices. I met a subscriber that was from Egypt awhile back, but he also hadn't been here in a long time, and I think the traffic was kinda crazy for him. When I first got here the "pss pss" sounds people make shocked me (sounds like they are calling a cat), I thought I was getting hit on all the time😂Then I realized people do it to get your attention, whether it's to get you to come into their shop or a guy with a cart trying to clear a path ahead of him, women do it too. Sometimes guys were actually hitting on me trying to get my attention by doing the pss pss but many times it was not. 😄But yeah, I dunno how much advice I could give you that you don't already know. And you're wife is from India, so she is no stranger to chaotic situations or streets. Ah, I love India too. How long are you and your wife going to be here?

      Well I do declare! 🤣Yeah, I know there is also WE, but
      1) I was too lazy to go inside and talk to them, write down all their prices and make it a part of the video
      2) I don't know any Egyptians that use WE for their mobile so it didn't seem relevant to include it
      Anyway, this video is more informative than most videos I've seen on CZcams about SIMs in Egypt. Many people get SIM cards in the airport and the obvious kiosks in the airport are the 3 mentioned in this video. If a tourist really wants to get WE for their visit here I am sure they can figure it out on their own. I use WE for my home internet but Vodaphone for my phone, and all my Egyptian friends use either Orange, Vodaphone, or Etisalat for their phones as well. Seems to be a lot more common to me.

      Yet another person without a CZcams channel who doesn't understand the energy it takes to make these videos, complaining and critiquing someone's video who put the time and effort into gathering this information for people on the internet. I don't work with a cellphone company, I am just a civilian who walked into these shops, asked about the prices, wrote everything down and then went home and filmed this video, edited it, made a thumbnail and uploaded it to CZcams. Be happy these videos exist at all, don't complain about a specific question you have that wasn't answered in the video.
      Now, to answer your question: Yes you can tether, or hotspot, here in Egypt. When I mentioned the hotspot in the video, I was talking about how good the connection was to the cellphone towers of Orange vs. Vodaphone. But hotspot works in Egypt.

    • @vladk597
      @vladk597 Před rokem +1

      @@Gventures Thank you for your answer.
      Btw. criticism looks different. I know exactly how much effort it takes to make a video applying transition effects or other effects or animations. I haven't found any of these in your video, though. You just simply cut your record, add some text and then got paid by CZcams which is the target, right?
      Honestly, I'm sick of CZcamsrs trying to make bucks by posting crappy videos. So no, I'm not happy that I'm flooded with stupid videos. I'm talking generally now, don't take it personally. I think you've got potential and your video conveyed a lot of useful information. I would just appreciate more complex info. Probably, more viewers too.
      It's just an advice how to become a better CZcamsr. If you don't accept someone else's advice or view, though, just screw it.
      The other day, I saw a CZcams video of a travelling couple. It was just a promotion video for some overpriced e-sim card but they pretended it was a genuine traveler's advice. Hope you won't end up like that one day.
      Anyway, I read the comments below their video and the questions were so stupid it made me laugh. I told them "Thank you guys for your video but not for the useless content. You're best at attracting the most retarded people in the world. I haven't laughed so much in a long time"🤣🤣
      I wish you good luck!😉

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Před rokem +3

      @@vladk597 The first line you wrote "Hi, you're another CZcamsr in a row talking about sim cards in Egypt without answering the most essential question" came off as a tad critical to me, and I just get tired of people acting snobby or entitled and demanding things from me. I guess that isn't what you were doing, my bad, I just took it the wrong way.
      Btw, I am not very tech savvy, 3 years ago did not even own a laptop and hadn't had one in over 5 years, I bought one and taught myself how to edit watching CZcams tutorials, so no, I am still not great at it. I started my channel for fun and to document my travels, I didn't even dream of trying to make money from it, that idea came later as my channel started to grow, and I know it's still quite small. In fact, I was only monetized recently and still make barely any money from it. I still have a life and an actual job that I need to make money, probably a long ways off from making any real $ from my channel. But that's fine. I make videos because I enjoy it, I like to document my experiences and because I like to help people out with information just as other CZcamsrs have helped me with useful information while planning travels myself. So yeah, it is a lot of work and is very time consuming, at least for me, even if I don't make fancy edits and animation. Appreciate the advice anyway, when making a video I just don't think of every little thing that should be mentioned or covered, like a hotpot. I honestly couldn't even hotspot something myself until recently because as I said, I am not very tech savvy, my friend just recently laughed at me and showed me how to do it when I told them I didn't know how to. It's surprising to me I know how to edit videos at all sometimes. And no, I'll never promote some bullshit I don't believe in, I was recently offered to market some stupid ass watch on instagram and will always continue to remain true to myself and what I believe in on my channel.
      Have a good day, and thanks for watching.

      You'll have to watch CZcams videos about that, there are plenty of people that explain how and why. Whether it's worth it or not depends on your provider, cell service, cost, etc. Everyone's differs. I always just get a local SIM because it usually costs me less than $20 a month for a decent sized data plan and sim card. I don't need to make calls abroad and local numbers are usually unnecessary when traveling, or very cheap. And many times I am traveling for months at a time, or just leave and never go back. Depends on who you are, what you have and what you do.

    Hello - really enjoy your videos! Can I get a SIM card with a phone number? All through EU I get a phone number when I get a SIM. What if a vendor or tour guide or whoever needs to talk to me in Egypt what do they normally do?

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Před rokem +2

      Yes, any time you buy a local SIM card that means you get a local number. However, it will depend on what type of package you purchase after you get your SIM that will allow you to make local calls. For example, there are some packages that are data (internet) only, and there are some packages that give you data as well as local calling minutes. For tour guides and vendors, most of them use Whatsapp so you can always just message them on the app, but I have found that Whatsapp calls don't typically work in Egypt, for whatever reason. I would recommend getting a local SIM card and a package that has some data and some local calling minutes, just in case. It's also nice to have a local SIM so you can use your internet (google maps, Uber, whatever else) while roaming around the city.

According to the person I spoke to at Orange, all carriers in Egypt (like Vodaphone, Etisalat, etc) are unable to provide eSIMS at this time. All the companies would like to launch the eSIM but are awaiting government approval (from Ministry of Technology or something like that), so at the current time eSIMS are not available. They are hoping to have them in the future.

Like I said in the video, you can probably get a lot of other offers if you just barter or act like you're going to walk away, every place kept offering me better and better deals as I said I had to go, but I was asking for the sake of the video not to actually sign up or buy a SIM. So is it true that you can have more than one wife and that Muslim women can only marry Muslim men? How long can you stay as a tourist?

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes it's true, Muslim men can have up to 4 wives here in Egypt. It's fucked up. And yes also true, Muslim women can only marry Muslim men, also fucked up. That whole topic gets crazy. Maybe I'll make a video about that some day. As far as how long tourists can stay, funny you ask, because I'm just now working on a video about visas and extensions here in Egypt! I made a video about it already but it's very long and I want to make a more efficient, informational video about that. Short answer: you can get a E-Visa or Visa on Arrival for only 30 consecutive days (whether it's multiple entry or not, you only get 30 consecutive days in Egypt at a time). After that you can extend your visa by going to the immigration office (a shit show here in Cairo, though the process is fast once you figure out where to go, it is extremely disorganized) but they will allow you to extend for up to a year (that's what I hear anyways), but I've only ever been extended for 6 months. I just extended again and received 5 months. We'll see about the next time, I may need to exit and re-enter the country.

      Thank you. How much money do you think is needed for housing, food, transportation, etc for one month in egypt?

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Před 2 lety

      @@icapyoda5035 That's a very difficult question to answer, because there are so many factors that play into it. For one month in Egypt...will you be traveling around the country (I assume?), are you okay with eating street food, will you stay in hostel dormitories, do you like drinking (that always adds up.)? If you are budget backpacking/traveling, you can do it for very cheap, but I always try and give myself added budget so I don't have to watch every dollar spent, and there are many sites to see here in Egypt which require entry fees.

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Před 2 lety +1

      @@icapyoda5035 Maybe $50 a day would be fine? You could definitely do even less but you'll probably not be drinking a lot, not taking tours, maybe you'll couchsurf. It's so hard to say. Prices vary around the country for things as well. For example, I stayed in a hostel in Cairo for 2 months that costed $6 a night for a dormitory bed. Street food is usually only a few dollars per meal, and transportation is dirt cheap in Cairo if you use the microbuses, or only a few dollars depending on distance if you are using Uber motorbike or the metro. But I don't think Uber motorbike is all over the country, in Alexandria there is only one hostel (Ithaka Hostel) and that costed $16 a night, in Dahab there is no Uber (though the city is quite small, you can walk). It really depends on a lot of things, whether you take tours or not, if you like to buy a lot of souvenirs, etc.

      I would go with Vodaphone, but that is my personal opinion, you'll always find someone with a different opinion than mine, especially on the internet. Like I mentioned in the video, Orange is a close second, so if you like their prices more they would be my second suggestion. What are you using the internet for, will you be working while you're here in Egypt? If so, there are co-working spaces you can pay a small fee to work in and be there all day. Or you can always find a cafe with wifi and work from there as well.
