      One should have retired HDD's a long long time from games. They are still great to store large files that don't need fast transfer speeds such as high quality videos. 10TB drives costs about 100€ here. With that money you can get 2TB nvme from a "PingPong"-brand. Sure it's faster, but with 1/5 of capacity.
      In my computer I have three M.2 nvme drives, two SATA SSD's and two HDD's. They all have a purpose :)

      HDDs has their uses as they provide huge storage for lower cost. they are most commonly used as storage backup primarily used in NAS systems nowadays you can deploy 2x 14 TB for the cheap.
      Get 4x 14TB and use it as backup drive and when one drive fails you can simply RMA the broken drive and your file is still intact lol.

    HDD is not made to play with, for people that dont know, just stock games inside it and movies and tv show, if you want play games you should always use sata ssd or m.2 , i recommand using ssd sata for single players games, and m.2 for heavy demending multiplayer games, cause multiplayer games you need to be more quicker in loading.

    I think this difference is due to how SSD technology works not the read/write speed. M.2 SSD and SATA SSD has difference 4-5 times on read and write but in reality is ~1 second load time.
    On the other hand SATA SSD vs SATA HDD has also around 4 times read write difference but in reality the difference is huge. Form what I understand from this is spending loads of money to get GEN4 and GEN5 is unnecessary is only gaming is your priority and also I cant find another real life scenario where you need GEN4 and GEN5 unless you want to benchmark everyday.

    External or internal? Will I see these speeds or similar on an external SSD?

    • @devious9113
      @devious9113 Před 7 měsíci +2

      A Samsung T7 SSD has a read speed of roughly 950MBs and a write at around 840MBs. For external SSDs, it's vital that you use a cable that is capable of the maximum speed of the SSD and that you plug it into a port that supports high enough speeds, which in this case would be USB 3.1 Gen 2 and higher. Thunderbolt ports are all capable of running the fastest external SSDs on the market.
      Personally, I use all 3 for storing my games.
      1. Games I frequently play on my PC which I know have long load times go to my NVME SSD. My NVMEs have top speeds of roughly 5100MBs, so about two times the speed of the NVME SSD used in testing this video. Though, realistically the load times won't be two times faster, rather it shaves off an extra second or two in most scenarios except for games that are designed to use such fast SSDs.
      2. Games I like to be portable, or don't need as much speed, go onto my array of external SSDs. My external SSDs are in the range of 940MBs to 1920MBs, and my highest-end externals are almost as fast as old NVMEs.
      3. Every other game, mostly singleplayer games, goes onto my SATA SSDs. All of them range around 550MBs or just a bit higher depending on how new they are.
      So, overall, I'd say externals are solidly in the middle in terms of SSDs and some almost outclass the old gens of NVMEs. Of course, keep in mind that external SSDs are typically more expensive than internal ones, though the obvious added benefit is their portability.

    na the difference between high end M2 or ssd isnt that big. Where i really get the difference is ingame, when huge new stuff simply plops. Or some visionary Game like Star citizen There is not the slightest sign that the game needed to load some Gigabyte just now. With mvp AC Valhalla Boat simply is there the moment you take the horn into the hands. With SSD there is a tiny lag, when the cam starts turning.
