Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #14 - Tactical Jumping

- The missions in this episode involve lots of jumping at very precise times, so much so that it almost feels like a mario speedrun.
I like this series of missions, they are a tough for in a row with neat strategy, and The Wrap Up is probably one of my favorite to pull off in the speedrun... because its easier than it looks after lots of practice.

Sometimes an enemy in GTAV will unload their entire clip into you (usually they only shoot in bursts), and it can kill you quick without any real chance of fighting back, like the first death in this clip.
Episode #14 of Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV will be about the... 3rd to last main series. We'll do a mega episode for #15 which will be the rest of the missions besides the endings, then #16 will be all the endings combined into one episode. We normally only do C but I will show a casual vs speedrun of each

I am playing as both the casual player and the speedrunner, so it's like facing against myself with a 10 foot pole. For the casual player, I play the game as if I've watched a GTA V speedrunner play the game once or so, so I know the mission order and where to go between missions, then play the missions as the game instructs you, giving the most shockingly average gameplay you've ever seen.

Also did this for all the other Casual vs Speedrun videos which helps if you only have 2 hours and can't do a full run at a time.
Tip: If you make a save file from the phone right before you exit the game, the game will be right where you left off the next time you play. (probably already knew this)

Quick correction, the command of leaving the helicopter being space/x/square isn’t completely random, as that is the command used for exiting helicopters in the skydiving side missions, so it was probably copy pasted from those or the other way around
I'm looking forward to the San Andreas videos. I played it as a kid on PS2 with no memory card, so to get further I had to play faster.
Would be cool if it turned out speedrunners use similar tricks to what I came up with.
I only played the game for the first time a year ago and still loved it - its a classic.
Playing a ps2 game without a memory card as a kid was the ultimate test of endurance.

I really appreciatee the Heist Comparisons (like Fire Crew vs Roof Entry) because it's not really necessary to the video, but as a Speed Run viewer, you get to understand why you don't see the Runners take this route, as well as seeing how you would do it if it were in a run.

@@FriendlyBaron that is usually the result of shoddy architecture. normally, you need to install a matter stabilizer to make sure the building consistently stays in our reality. inventors are currently working on an interdimensional portal to rescue anyone caught in such an accident

I will not be speedrunning Red Dead Redemption 2; it is a 14 hour run, there's not much room for interesting timesaving strategies, it takes about 14 hours to complete, and the game is not out on PC yet. Also, did I mention it being 14 hours long?

So because of the elevator, the speedruns need a FPS cap to be comparable.
The elevator isn't used in the speedrun, but yes, FPS differences do possibly change how fast you can go. its a huge topic, but basically the advantages tend to equalize around 130/140FPS and most people running the game at a competitive level can hit those FPS marks anyways, so its easier to just not have a cap. kind of like, if you want to speedrun Super Mario Oddessy, you need a nintendo switch. if you wanna speedrun GTAV at a top 5 time, you need a decent computer. limiting it would hurt the game as a speedrun game more than it would help.
I've just got to say,I love the series so much,I'm gonna be so sad when it ends and have enjoyed it thoroughly throughout! Keep it up!

Wow in the almost six years the game has been out and all the hours of gameplay i've seen and played I have NEVER EVER known about the fire crew heist route, I had no idea this game has a long ass moping sequence LOL thank you friendly boi

The only thing that doesn’t make this a good comparison is the player switches and the lack of deaths. I mean sure there’s a few deaths in gun fights, but not enough of an actual player.

the "random" button change is actually the same with all instances where you jump out of a helicopter, ie the dom Strangers and freaks missions and the Parachute jumps you unlock after the aforementioned missions.

You give the casual a TON of credit. We all know that a casual run doesn't go straight through all the missions without exploring and playing some side missions as well as messing with cars/clothes. My first play through was like 15 hours and even that for a first time isn't terrible as I have extensive shooting experience and breeze through the fights with very little deaths in my run. I'm not trying to knock your video I think its a great comparison for like a second time through the game focusing on completing the main story. I think most people are just missing the point of the video. Like you stated in the first episode its more like rockstars version of the standard play vs optimization but that isn't the best title lol. Great job

Gonna be honest with you: I kinda liked that mission with the fire crew option, but I ended up doing both because of power outage, save corruption, and the such... (lost previous missions too... It was a sad, sad day)

A cool feature of the wrap up, there's a spawn point of a pegassi Vacca in the rounded front parking lot. It's one of the few super cars you can get in game (without purchasing) besides the old Adder spawn near the Jewelry store, and the occasional infernus or bullet on random spawns.
I remember it from my first run of the campaign, dying 3 times trying to steal it because of the buzzard, and after getting the option to skip, getting good at sniping the prick out of the chopper.
Also, it's funny, I commented on the chopper being around on that road running to madrazo's from Blaine county, and sure enough, we had the car in the Fire heist set up at the end despawn. Something in GTA's coding means vehicles won't despawn or respawn when in view of the origin player's camera, unless it's a set spawn like the hangar aircraft in GTAO. But even turning a corner on a non player car, once you've gotten in another, will cause it to despawn.
about right with the camera thing! we just found a new trick with the camera early in the run you'll see on a future bonus episode too
FriendlyBaron what if you called the fire truck, and kept the car parked on the ramp to LSC? Maybe go for a compact, or light sedan like the Fugitive, and push it down with the truck. Or does the truck not allow you to turn in with the cops on you and despawn once in the shop?
Doubt it matters for this but might help another part, like the jewelry store van. Maybe you leave Michael's car at Lester's then upgrade it, or during the final heist.
Not a speed runner, but GTAO did teach me optimization of travel and the like.
2:55 whilst that's technically the "fastest" option, I think we can all agree if there was an option for go faster stripes, that would have been the best option to go for

I love the Gta 5 story, I know a lot of people dont, but idk it's just really interesting, crazy, and fun. The only somewhat long story I've played multiple times (aside from Dark Souls 3, and Sekiro, but those go quick af after beating them once)
