From a 1985 Gala with the Stars hosted by Beverly Sills conducted by James Levine. Edita sings Adele's Laughing Song from Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss. Definitely the 80's!!!!!!
IT'S 1985 FOR GOD'S SAKE...NO ONE KNEW WHAT THEY WERE WEARING!!! LOL! The singing sublime! I just heard her in München 10.03 and she sounded incredible!!!! Fabulous Eb!!!
I love Edita singing this song and she brings so much character to the role. Definitely one of her signatures and Maestro Levine is such a fun conductor. For those bashing the dress, get over it. It was the 80's. Otherwise, Gruberova was in prime voice and I've never heard a better interpretation.
Fantastic Performance! This operatic performance of Edita Gruberova was from "Gala of Stars 1986" hosted by Beverly Sills and conducted by James Levine, and this 3 and a half hour special aired as part of the conclusion of KPBS San Diego's Festival '86 (March 1986 Membership Campaign), Circa Sunday March 16th, 1986!! TV Worth Watching and TV Worth Paying For!!
I love it!!! and I also love the fact that one of the greatest coloraturas of the century hosted a show with one more of the greatest coloraturas of the century!
Goodness, she has an interesting movement style, doesn't she? Truly, undeniably unique. And what a voice! Also seems to have a fun sense of humor and timing. :)
For someone who has seen the opera (Dallas 08-09 season) and gone through the score numerous times, yes the "laughing song" pushes up to an Eb and resolves in Ab major. :)
I came here after listening to Florence Foster Jenkins to hear what this song is supposed to sound like. This singer is better but I prefer Flo's fashion sense.
Lucrezia is nothing compared to when she used to sing F# like they were nothing, but giving that she is close to almost 60 I still love her hefty Eb's! Did she also sing Norma opposite Elina Garanca this season?
SABEN UNA COSA?????????.....CUANDO CANTABA CALLAS ...O SUTHERLAND........NO SOLO ERA SU VOZ..LA QUE FLOTABA Y BRILLABA....TAMBIEN ERA SU FUERZA...PERSONAL.......VOCES GRANDIOSAS EN PERSONALIDADES GRANDIOSAS.........NO VOCESILLAS.....DE TRES AL CUARTO.........Y LO SIENTO POR EDITA.......QUE SE ATREVIO A COMPARARSE A LAS GRANDES DEL PASADO SIN TENER NI LA MAS MINIMA IDEA DE LO QUE SIGNIFICA LA GRANDEZA..........
I came here too, after listening to Florence Foster Jenkins. Sure, this voice is better but I feel more emotion/feeling in Florence's interpretation (not a joke)!

Absolutely the best interpretation of the laughing song. I mean she ACTUALLY laughs during the song.
Edita's rendition is superb. Absolutely agree she is among the very best singers.
her dress, her hairdo... 80's Diva!!!
Those were the days.....La Gruberova ruled and I adoooored her in this part.
Beautiful!!!!!
She is an angel!*
And the last high note?
Just lovely and perfect!
Love you*

We loved her voice and her dress :-)
She is quite the comedienne! One wouldn't know it by all of her "mad" roles but she truly excels as Zerbinetta, Maria and Adele!
She's truly one of the Queens of Coloratura! Fantastic! =)
Man I fall to pieces every time from 3:20 to the end. And I've never heard a high D sung with such fearlessness before!!! Love you Gruberova!!
She is just wonderful!

You can't help but smile with this one, it's so merry!
Om My God!!!! what a performance! I enjoyed so much, the best i have heard from this one... bravisimo!!
May she rest in peace.
Edita is one of the greats. She belongs in the pantheon of the greatest opera singers. I doubt if any dare challenge my assertion.
that was absolutely fabulous
It doesn't get any better. Brava!!!!!!
STAGGERING!! This is true perfection... Perfect expression, perfect laughing! Thank you so much for sharing the clip!!
Her singing was so amazing, I forgot about the dress!
THE BEST ✨ !!!! BRAVISSIMA ✨❤✨
I love it!!! and I also love the fact that one of the greatest coloraturas of the century hosted a show with one more of the greatest coloraturas of the century!
Super!!!!!!
You have to listen to her singing the Alleluya Chorus from The Messiah! her runs are perfection, truly heavenly..
never mind tha fashion sense, i love her laugh! the song is perfectly expressed!
Goodness, she has an interesting movement style, doesn't she? Truly, undeniably unique. And what a voice! Also seems to have a fun sense of humor and timing. :)
Realmente era perfecta en todo sentido. Pese a quien le pese... Gruberova canto todo con sublime perfeccion. Y los testimonios sobran a patadas
I really don't mind her dress at all, I really like this rendition and her voice, the end.
RiP Edita Gruberova 😢😢😢😢😢
Thanks! They were my high school and college years so I know all about those expressive costumes & 'dos!
in fact she is over 60, to be more exact 63 and her voice is still powerful and stable :)
Гениальная Эдита.
I think the voice definitely overshadows the unmistakeable 80s hair and dress x
fantástica!!! gracias por compartir este viedo.

It was THE 80'S!
bravaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Brava, Madame!
Superb
I like her!!
❤❤
It looks like she is wearing one of those ab belts you see on infomercials!
the costume is funny as hell! and the Lady D hairdo. Grubi's great, too. Never was a coloratura she didn't rock.
I came here after listening to Florence Foster Jenkins to hear what this song is supposed to sound like. This singer is better but I prefer Flo's fashion sense.
I did the same, I was also trying to find how the song is supposed to sound like.
monserrat caballero
Patrice Munsel did the best rendition of this song. :)
At least that Florence introduced us to some good operatic songs, ah, and I did the same.
If Strauss doesn't put you in the mood for the ball, then i don't know what will :P
she was kind of cute back then - she is absolutely stunning right now
Yes, the Laughing Song only goes up that high but she sang an Eb in Lucrezia Borgia in March.
Have a look at the very first live TV-production from Sydney Opera house, Fledermaus, Laughing song, Monique Brynnel
Have fun with it and best of luck with that audition.
Great!:)
smashing!
i think she belongs in the 1600 hundreds! there just something about her face and nose! Perfect;y adorable!
Is that Sheldon Cooper playing the Oboe?
At least one of the comments refers to the beauty of Gruberova's siging and not on the way she was dressed. Thanks!
wooooo
When I see this, I feel like Diana Damrau got a lot of her inspiration from Gruberova. Her humor and style is very similar. Very lovely!
Aw, you also found that they both are pretty similar. :) I think they're both awesome
"Mein Herr Marquis" by Bonnie Tyler :)
😂 You're right, she really looks like her! Good one!
çok güzeldi muhteşem
she's sure no Florence Foster Jenkins
Den har set på danske på Ddet Ny Teater i Københaven-M.V.B..
I bet it would now!
bravissima
i stood on top of a stool and i still cannot reach the high notes. :(
my friend is going to sing this song to get into a special high school thats in Baltimore i think
She'll be 63 this December!!!!!
Don't know if Ms. Garanca will sing Adalgisa.
@operadude32 The hairdo reminds me of Bonnie Tyler LOL.. gotta love the 80s
It was the 80's for god's sake - I'm sure you could find some really nice pics of you or your parents from that time!
Jeg har den på danske med Githa hybru på danske dvd film
SHE BETTER SANG!
Always will be a "better one"... but this one is very good by it self.
The magic happens after 3:17
Edit:
Magic = 3:22
hahaha, some bunch of queens here, discussing fashion...
Lucrezia is nothing compared to when she used to sing F# like they were nothing, but giving that she is close to almost 60 I still love her hefty Eb's!
Did she also sing Norma opposite Elina Garanca this season?
As does mine - Schirmer score that is.
Cultura Alemanha e outra coisa
is that itzhak perlman on the podium?
what's up with the caps? are you illustrating a mad scene?
Poor thing. But she's just so much fun to listen to the tragedy of the dress can be overlooked. :)
IT'S 1985. NO ONE KNEW WHAT THEY WERE WEARING!!! lol!
3:21
Put The Donald in drag and they'd be twins and no offense intended to Ms Gruberova
Mein herr marquis

@ajb1776 Did she died?
boy oh boy...maybe that dress is whats making her go hahahaha
she looks like a pink football player with that dress
She didn't even come close to Jenkins' . :D
I came here too, after listening to Florence Foster Jenkins. Sure, this voice is better but I feel more emotion/feeling in Florence's interpretation (not a joke)!
Timo Herrmann you’ve got to be kidding...
Now that is some good German. I hate when songs get translated.
Cool but its not rolling in the deep adele hey
no, it's the coiffure………

OK, so in what way does the costume make the music here?? who the heck cares about the darn costume ???
whoa. what a visually assaulting dress.
what does she wear? what in hell is that?
A good example of hideous clothing happening to great singers lol
