    Nothing, so far has beat my 1978 promo copy Los Angeles pressing with "LW1 F.E. / LW2" in the dead-wax.

    Definitely enjoy the original line up more! Too bad David's voice didn't hold up well over the years! No surprise considering how he could belt out those tunes! Loved the story!

    I have all but one of the "Bellman cut's" (women and children first, a club pressing) , and they sound absolutely engaging and fantastic! No need for an expensive 45! There's a video up here on CZcams where Chris says out of his own mouth that he cut the LP, CD, and digital version direct from the tape!

    Hi Bob, thanks for this video. I bought it and love it, you were spot on. This LP is by far one of the cleanest that I have ever purchased. My copy has the same hype sticker. The Cheap Audio Man turned me on to your channel. Keep up the good work and thanks again. James ATL GA.

    I know this video is a year old at this point, so I'm sure by now you've heard the MoFi One Step pressing. I found it simply amazing. I heard things on it that I had never heard before. Originally I was going to only get the debut and 1984 from MoFi. But the debut blew me away so much that I am seriously considering buying them all now.

    That is true about the M&M"s There were a lot of important things the stage crew had to pay attention to. If they didnt follow the rules in the manual, they would not get paid and that was in the contract also.

    My Wifey & her mom were the ones who removed the brown M&M’s backstage in NM in ‘84. It was real 😆 Alex said: hey little girl, you want these? And gave her his sticks. Thrashed & electrical taped up, we have them here @ home. I can’t wait to get this album. Awesome review!!!! Thanks for making this.

    I'd like to know more about the differences between the Mofi ones and the what I'm assuming is a "standard" vinyl. I know nothing about vinyl. At all lol what accounts for that crazy price difference?

    • @johndiloreto3738
      @johndiloreto3738 Před rokem +1

      It's a box set so you're paying for the box and other extra packaging that comes from the sleeve. You're also paying for 2 discs of higher quality, very heavy noiseless vinyl instead of a single slightly thinner/lighter disc. It's also paying for the cost of MoFi's labor that went into copying the tape to DSD as well as making the numerous lacquer cuts that go into the OneStep process (more below). It's more expensive for a reason, whether it's too much is another issue, but it's not like the additional cost isn't warranted for what you get and what goes into it.
      MoFi's vinyl mastering and cutting process is different from standard vinyl, they either cut directly from the master tape or make a DSD (digital) copy of it and cut it from there. They usually make some mastering changes such as using less compression and a little more low and high end. They cut theirs using a half-speed process which allows for greater frequency reproduction, meaning more detail and top end. The OneStep process goes beyond that by using a lower generation lacquer for pressing the discs. Standard vinyl is made by cutting the music to a lacquer, then making a copy of that lacquer known as the "father", which is then copied again known as the "mother", which is copied once more to create the stamper that the discs are then pressed from. OneStep records have fewer copies in between. The lacquer is cut from the tape, then that is copied into a conversion stamper, then the records are stamped. It takes away two phases of generational loss so that more detail is kept in the pressing. The downside is that they have to cut the lacquers many more times, which I believe is part of the cost increase.

    VH2 was the first of three tours i saw when i was young, and VH was massive when i was in high school. That being said, their 6 albums with DLR were purchased within a week of release. I was taugh young how to handle vinyl so they are in great shape. That $100.00 cost is prohibitive to me. Just my opinion....

      I like them both. Sammy is a better vocalist, and he can rock a guitar. Sammy can also still sing, while Dave lost his voice 20 years ago. One band, 2 very different sounding versions.

    Funnily enough I have just compared three pressings of this incredible album and I need to tell you this 2015 Bellman cut came in a distant third place IMO.
    So, if you have not "popped" for the MOFI 1-Step yet - which coincidentally I heard at a friend's and did not care for it at all) do yourself a favor and get a hold of the 2009 Warner Bros/RTI edition which uses the "metal parts" from the Kevin Gray/Steve Hoffman DCC production from 1998.
    In my humble opinion, this 2009 Warner/RTI edition bests the 2015 Bellman cut. It is more natural, less shrill, it has more body & instrumental depth than the Bellman cut. Then again, you yourself like the Bellman edition for that very reason since you admit you might be suffering from HF hearing loss. So who knows? You may find the 2009 Warner/RTI too soft, too mellow. But it is not. It is much improved effort than the Bellman cut, I guarantee it.
    But to hear VH I at its glorious best you're going to have to get the "vacuum-tube mastered" DCC done by Kevin Gray & Steve Hoffman in 1998. Yes, it even bests the 2009 RTI cut made from the same DCC metal parts so go figure! Of course, the DCC is not commonplace and it is pricey being long out of print. But it is THE ONE.
    Cheers,
    Oz
